Level and gear both help survival, especially with unrestricted parties. But there are some fights that have instant death or boss invulnerability mechanics that you cannot just cheese with stats.

I still remember buying a Job skip for Gunbreaker just so I could solo-unsync Coils before starting Heavensward and even me at level 80 wasn't good enough to solo Nael Van Darnus so I called on my hardcore raider friend to help me get through her final set of mechanics. Looking back now, it was all a DPS check so I probably could have had an easier time solo if I mained a DPS job instead.
Remember doing this back in the day when it was fresh… Some of my most memorable moments were from the t13 in particular. lol
