The Steam Deck looks very interesting. Going to keep my eye on this one and I look forward to more coverage from you on this. Hopefully Valve puts more work into make sure everyone's collection will play on it. Cheers, Pete! 🍻🎮
This looks great. Reminds me of WoW. And playing it on the Deck appears to work flawlessly. Thanks for the video, Pete.
To add info, but FF14 is build on wine in a way. I remember them using it to port their software on mac. So it has always been a pleasure to run their stack on wine
Steam should use this game to market the Deck in Japan. Portable non-laptop FFXIV will make people go crazy
Was the first game I downloaded on my deck. Had mine for 2 weeks now, it’s brilliant.
Top tips
Change Wi-Fi off power save mode (stops the random disconnects from steam server)
Set up UI on a PC/console and remember to export your UI settings on the character screen, you can then download on your deck and your UI is good to go, I lowered scaling to 80% and it fits perfectly
I'm curently messing around with virtual menus and action layer to get what I want. It feels much better coming from PC.
Coco-bo.
just a quick tip as u get into higher lvl dungeons, you need to face the mobs away from the rest of the party at all times!
coco bo 😀 this made my day haha.
from a person 4400 hours in (oh god why did i look….) can confirm it still holds up at endgame (level 90). valve is also constantly pushing proton experimental fixes just for ffxiv
it plays the pc versions (SE retail and steam) of ff14, it feels the same as playing on my pc besides the turned down graphics on the deck. and the experience is nearly identical on playstation, because you can just plug in a keyboard and mouse, and change modes in the game.
This game sucks
Also a laptop by design is PORTABLE. Why play this on a tiny ugly screen vs a beautiful 17in oled laptop… both are portable and you can use a controller on the laptop while also being able to type. It will be hell to type on this device
It's pronounced Cho-koh-bow, Cho(ke)-co(le)-bow.
Thanks, for the footage btw!
What's the size of ff14? Can you load it to a memory card? I have the 64 gb deck
u still playing it ?
So how do I use glamour prisms from the character menu on my gear? I can’t seem to figure it out. I have all the controls down but this is bugging me 😢
Something I became heavily reliant on in this game is the Steam Deck’s Virtual Menus placed on the touchpads as eventually, you’ll accumulate tons of moves that you’ll need quick access to.
I added two additional hotbars, set them up in a grid, placed some moves in there, assigned each hot bar button to a keyboard combo (ctrl or shift + 1-9), and assigned a fancy icon to each move in the Steam virtual menu. If you wanna find some inspiration from it, I have the control scheme uploaded under “Scholar w/ Touchpad Menu”
Nevertheless, I’m glad you’re enjoying the game!
For the love of god tell me how to get this working on my steam deck, it just loads a black screen. Ive added my non steam game to the library, and it doesnt work. Ive tried the launcher thingy, but I can't input my id or password. nothing works! Ive tried to install windows 10 and the controller doesnt work right. SOOOO ANNOYED. do a video of how you launch it, or how you installed it pls!
Great video!
what about the fps drop??
What’s the framerate
Heads up… don’t repurchase this on Steam if you already own the Windows version. Square Enix won’t let you use your account for both platforms. It’s really dumb.
Just ordered mine. Looking forward to playing FFXIV on my Steam Deck.
On a side note, hope you're enjoying the msq.
This look amazing!
I need the deck for my XIV fix!
NOOOOOOO YOU CANT SKIP THE DIALOGUE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
EverCanadian, can I ask a question please? Are you playing using the version bought from Steam, or from the square enix website? I'm interested in getting into this and I assume Steam version would be easier on Steam deck?
How do you get XIV Launcher to install onto a Micro SD card? Tried changing the install directory in the app and it wouldn't work, I only have 64GB of on board storage. Tempted to uninstall it and start again.
even though I play this game mainly on PC, this video got me wanting to try out the game on the deck since i already got one. And to my surprise it ran really well and I got used to the control pretty quick. One of my concerns back then was how good my play would be in raids on the Deck, i didn’t even struggle to get good parse. Now i can play out and about on the train or whenever
Are you having a blast tho? That's all I wanna know! 😂
Me Plays FF14 on steam Deck doing fates, Badass music kicks in
Or Show strangers a funny Hildibrand Quest
great game but battery life suck
If I hear having a blast one more time….
Will the hotbars be messed up when I get back onto Pc?
On mobile hotspot is there too much latency to do hard content?
I'm having some trouble, I keep getting a problem with the Steam Trail Verison, saying it can't update the launcher. I tried doing a fix in Glitchy's video but it doesn't seem to work. Now I'm getting a -113 HTTP error when trying to launch the game.
Have you had to do anything since you made this video? As I heard there was an update that messed with things. I really want to play this, so appreciate any help.
funny excus if u get disconnected in dungeon , steam deck out of juice
curently training using gamepad on my pc ff14 so i can transition to Sdeck
What server are you on that gives extra XP?
And you do know there’s a way to auto skip previously watched cutscenes in the settings right?
For lengthy sessions have you noticed too much heat, feel like you need to give the deck a break or?
Awesome video, can you please tell me which silicon case you are using for your steam deck ? , it looks to fit perfectly.
OMG this is so cool
I just started this game 4 days ago after trying it one time in 2020 and one in 2022. Now I'm hooked. If the so called worst part (ARR) is thi fun then I can't imagine how good the expansions must be.
Honestly, if anything could sell me on the Steam Deck, it's FF14
Why does the UI look like something from 2003..
Can you please answer some of these concerns that I have as a handheld gamer and also have used pcs and consoles! Does the steam deck heat up? How does it solve the heat? Also what if a button or a joystick get broken or drift or stop working do they have solutions and services to fix it?
