I like how you are conflicted about what job to choose đ
âIt seems slower than I thought.â
Oh sweet summer child keep that innocence.
Its fine, switching jobs is as easy as swapping your weapons once you do the blue quest associated with the class
All the class seems slow because they wait for each animations to end before using the next ability, so it's not representative of the actual class especially since when you play them you have to weave off GCD abilty between your normal rotation, monk for example is one of the fastest class, so much so that it's actually hard to weave more than one off GCD ability between two ability of your rotation.
I think something that I would like you to know is this:
Since you came from WoW you're prolly use to a class playing multiple roles: Druids – dps/healer/tank
FFXIV jobs are just their role: A Pally is a tank, White Mage is a healer. They dont fulfill other roles (Every class/job is expected to dps though). Although you don't play other roles in a single job they are much more refine in that role (In my opinion). Some roles may feel slow but the mechanics that makes up that job can get incredibly intricate (buffs and rotations that require keeping up, etc etc).
I will say there are more of subclasses within each of the holy trinity so: DPS has more supportive dps or pure/selfish dps or healers who are more about mitigation vs healers who are more buffing allies, tanks that have a lot of self mitigation vs tanks with a lot more group wide utility, etc etc
Enjoy the game and welcome
fyi it only appears to be slow simply because the animators are showcasing the new stuff, so they want you to soak in the new moves. in reality, you would be weaving OGCD skills and sometimes animation cancelling in actual boss fights. which would much faster.
don't worry about choosing the right job or not. you can play any class. so just have fun with it.
Jake!
My Friend.
Floor Tanking is a meme! They called Floor Tankers because Dragoon players die a lot and thus the joke is "They Tank the Floor", because they're always dead.
Also the Job actions videos are more to see.. the animations, and attacks, and a little of mechanics.
A lot of these classes play waay faster and different in the actual game.
Welcome to Final Fantasy 14 bro, I enjoy seeing new people being introduced to the series. Watching you react, you're like a kid in a candy shop looking at all of the classes and don't know which one to pick lol.
As someone who has almost every class on lvl 80 theres no choosing wrong you can play anything you want later thats the great part about this game
Hi there!
Another note: in this game every healer is expected to do some dps that's why they show also dps spells not just healing.
And as the others said, the job icons are color coded so it is easy to decipher đ
I am glad you enjoyed it!
Floor tank is a joke it means the aggros the floor in death. As far as how fast the jobs are, this was trying to show all abilities without clutter so they were not weaving as heavily as what would happen in game. By 80th level most classes get really close to a 1-1.2 global cooldown/off global cooldown.
ok so the floor tank thing isn't cause drg can hold hate it's because dragoon used to have really bad animation lock that would cause them to die to mechanics alot and we as a comunity would say when they died they were tanking the floor. to give you context on the meaning of floor tank.
Bards actually start out as Archers, then later become Bards as a veteran archer teaches the protagonist about how music can bolster morale and support allies.
The joke of calling Dragoons "floor tanks" is because due to the animations of some of their abilities, they have a tendency of getting hit by otherwise avoidable damage. This means that they get dropped to 0 hit points, where they are "tanking the floor."
The Astrologian in the Gunbreaker and Astrologian parts is actually a male character. Their outfit in Shadowbringers is just a bit feminine-looking. đ
Monks do get weapons! Most of them look like knuckles, but there are some cool and silly ones out there too. There's a pair of monk weapons that look like tea kettles, or even oversized scissors. đ
Ninjas do have some "stealth and backstabbing" parts, but this video wanted to show off new abilities, and for Ninja, Shadowbringers gave them a lot of new ways to use their mudra mechanic.
Scholar is a healer with a pet. All healers are technically "a mix between DPS and healer," since when you're not healing you should be doing DPS. đ
Summoner is a "mage" too! They are a caster class that use summons to channel the powers of primals.
Lastly, don't worry about switching jobs! You gain a ton of bonus experience when leveling a job other than your highest level one!
Here is the thing no pressure on any of the jobs because you can do them all.
you didn't choose wrong because you don't have to choose! you can play all the jobs you want in your main character! that's the beauty of ff 14 ; )
Do remember dark knight and red mage are content/level locked. Dark knight requires you progress to heavensward in the MSQ, and red mage requires you get to 50 on a starter job. đ
Remember you can level every job on the same character! So stick with Black Mage for now, it's a great job, and if you want to later try some other jobs then go for it!
Its nice you can learn whatever jobs you want to change them as desired đ
To clarify:
Gunbreakers use gunblades. They use a different type of gunblade than the ones carried by the Garlean Empire. Unlike the imperials' hybrid ranged melee sword, the cartridges you shoot release magical powder that coalesce into light barriers. Not to say the gun aspect isn't part of their offensive. Gunbreakers pull the trigger at the exact time they hit a target to produce explosions. The gunblades you use are the ones based on FFVIII.
Bards still use bows as their primary weapon. It's the instruments that are their main gimmick that ties into powering their bows and their party members. They're a support class that buffs the party with songs.
Astrologian is a support healer. Currently it's the only Healer class that can do both barrier and pure heals but that's gonna change in Endwalker.
Red Mages use a rapier with a crystal medium. They can actually be put together to form a staff.
Monks actually use weapons. Horas, patas, katars, etc. It's just that some of their weapons are just actual gloves and there's a glamour item that removes the weapon entirely so you fight with your bare fists.
White Mage is the DPS healer here. Scholar is all about barriers, but it has more attack options than Astrologian. Also, Scholar and Summoner share the same base class of Arcanist. You can quite literally level up both jobs simultaneously by playing just one of them
Yoshi-P admitted that the Ninja job was based on Naruto, so they are equal parts melee and magic DPS. You do have access to a stealth ability early on but you move slower and you can actually activate it mid-battle, it has to be before.
A Dancer's weapon is a pair of chakrams but they also use fans for their off global cooldown attacks. They're a support class with their dances and can choose anyone, regardless of role as their "Dance Partner", allowing them to share the Dancer's buffs.
You don't even need to play Dark Knight for the abilities alone. Just play it for your character alone. You'll see.
did he just shoot her?
got a big laugh out of me
Red Mages use swords, not staves. When casting they touch their crystals/offhand catalysts to the sword and hold it like a staff however. Also Monks do use weapons, they're just fist based. But they have claws, tonfas, katars (wrist blades) and so on and so forth.
A "floor tank" is someone who is "tanking the floor" IE they are dead. Dragoons are the best at that.
Gunbreaker is a tank , bard are a ranged physical dps that uses songs to buff the party , there is no swaping to ranged , dragoon's being floor tanks is a meme in the ffxiv community , it essentially means they lay dead on the floor and has nothing to do with any tanking ability , just thought i would drop these explanations in here đ
You can play other jobs with one character so relax!
Yeah, Black Mage for life!
Haha, I love my Black Mage but sometimes itâs nice to switch to other stuff to take a break. Dark Knight is a close second for me. Just try whatever seems to interest you and donât worry because all jobs can do all content. (Apart from Blue Mage I guess but thatâs its own thing.)
Yeah Dragoon's are floor tanks cuz they are aways dead tanking the floor for the group you know ?
just thought i'd point out the role of each job:
Tank: Dark Knight, Gunbreaker, Paladin, Warrior
Healer: Astrologian, Scholar, White mage
Melee DPS: Samurai, Ninja, Dragoon, Monk
Caster DPS: Red Mage, Black Mage, Summoner
Ranged DPS: Machinist, Bard, Dancer
Some thing to note about the actions the classs are peforming, few if any are using actual rotations, they are showing what the actions look like, in action they tend to be a lot faster
Yea it seems slow but in FF but thats because the dev team is showcasing individual actions and not weaving off GCD skills between attacks
Hi Jake! As a fellow sprout, it's all quite confusing and overwhelming in the beginning. If you want some more in depth guidance on jobs and their actions, I recommend checking out WeskAlber's channel here on YT. The videos are quite long due to how he tries to explain all moves and the openers for each expansion, but when starting a new job, I always check his videos to see what I'm getting into, regardless of whether I'll actually understand what he's saying. Good luck and have lot's of fun đ
Red mage is a great choice for someone newer to the game (altho ironically unfortunate that you can't unlock it til you're 50 on another job). As far as caster dps jobs go it's relatively simple while still being fun and satisfying to play. Black mage imo is one of the harder jobs in the game to play well, not that it's rotation is too difficult but it can become very difficult when also dealing with boss mechanics that make you move a lot. But at the end of the day just play what you enjoy!
Summoner is also a magical dps! So if you do level black mage first you can use the same gear other than the weapon for summoner and red mage! To become summoner you have to level arcanist to 30, which you can start at the arcanist guild in Limsa.
The beauty of the game is that you can play all the jobs on your character so it's not that you chose just one job to play, you chose one job to play FIRST.
This is just a showcase, not actual rotation. In fact, the jobs are lot faster than seems in this video
People have explained why Dragoons are called floor tanks, but most skipped some key parts. Back in ARR's beginnings, the Jump attacks from dragoon were lengthier in terms of animation, locking them for certain death most of the time and it also didn't help that back then servers were quite laggy too. On top of that, Dragoons had the least amount of Magic Defense because of their armor, so it was fairly common for dragoons to die from unavoidable damage (mostly raidwide attacks) because those were Magic damage attacks. This was fixed by the end of ARR when they increased the Magic Defense value of DRG armor to be the same as the other physical DPS classes.
You said a lot of them are slower than you thought they'd be, but it's worth noting that this is not gameplay, it's an exhibition. So most of them don't weave oGCD's to give the audience a good look at all of the actions on display.
It's not that they're slow, they are just showing the animation for the new moves.
Honestly? Be Black Mage, Red Mage, AND Summoner. Because they're all casters, they share the "Casting" gearsets that come after lv 50 (whereas right now [sub 50], the casting gear is also shared with the healers, known as 'disciples of magic'), so gearing would be much less of a pain in the butt. Machinist shares gear with Bard and Dancer, known as Aiming gear; they're the closest thing we have to 'support' without actually being a healer.
Also liiiies, let your big man dance! o/
you choose the right job. and the fact that you can have them all in 1 char anywayđđ»
You can usually tell what the class does by the color that is associated with them: Blue is tank, Green is healer and Red is DPS.
gunknife thing… gunKNIFE thing…. god this hurts my soul
Play them all!
The reason you are feeling lots of the classes are hybrids and can't discern who is who is due to how FFXIV differentiates the roles. Healers are dps with green buttons, tanks are dps with blue buttons and actual dps just do the most damage
"I may play this class and that class…"
Hey, I also said the same thing years ago. Now? I play all classes…………..
It's funny because I hear from a lot of new players that they don't think they'll play Monks because they use fists and not weapons. They have lots of weapons like brass knuckles, tonfa, katar, to name a few.
