That poor dancer at 2:29 D:
For the longest time I have held off playing as Summoner, but I eventually grew to love it.
With RDM, I usually vercure to proc dualcast for verraise, and use swiftcast+acceleration to force verfire/stone.
slide cast is ur best freeen
Omg as a healer main, I thank you for pointing out the ranged that take the "ranged" literal!
I mean come on. Are you just trying to see how far you can stay away from the boss and still do damage? Do you think aoes won't hit you if you're on the edge of the arena??
DO YOU WANT HEALS?! lol
Oh, that's slide casting? I've heard it mentioned before but only in a vague "that's a thing one can do" kind of way. I've been doing that while trying to solo the Palace of the Dead with my caster classes. I'm not making it very far into the actual dungeon proper, but I do now more or less know when I can move without cancelling the spell with my muscle memory.
It was weird, when I first started playing RDM (the first caster I played) I couldn't help myself from standing away from the party, it just kind of happened. Now I've managed to curb that habit though.
Slidecasting BLM is just part of the normal play.
New player here. I just got to 80 with my Black Mage, and I can't recommend it to other fellow new players. It requires a lot of theory and practice just to be somewhat decent, if you're a skilled and dedicated player you'll get there eventually, but if you just wanna have some fun and feel good about your DPS as soon as you hit lvl 80, then maybe look up some other classes. If you want to play low level content, be prepared to use a completely different rotation every 10 levels. Rotations are simple but vary wildly within a few levels, which I found frustrating.
Just want to clarify, I'm not hating on the class, I actually like it and I think it's awesome in competent, experienced hands, but it's not for me. I'm trying a couple other classes and I'm already feeling more confident with my DPS.
LMAO Red Mage Saving Swiftcast for rezing

Justice 4 blue mage!
lol imagine pretending to be heal or get raid buffs while standing on the arena edge.
I know people aren't allowed to use act, but if you did.. Oh boi would you see the difference
For the love of gawd, STAND IN THE STAR. Your astro may not love you, but at least we won't hate you.
RDM is for beginners, peaks very early and can get accustomed to the rotation quickly
BLM has a odd approach and requires some training to pull off and naturally evolves as you get more skills and traits
SMN is the middle child, not hard to understand or execute on paper but in battle itll get ya. You’ll find yourself forgetting somthing where it be Energy drain or your enkindles
If you're learning slidecasting, watching your mana bar is a good way to start learning the timing; as soon as MP is taken you'll be able to move without cancelling your channel.
I love how haps nailed the mobility discussion. The three casters all have mobility but none is perfect. People always throw around SMN or RDM is the most mobile when they don’t know the job inside out.
Sprint uses up dual cast?! All this time I haven't known that. lol
Me, as a Blue Mage: Naaaooooooooooo!!!!!
Started SMN (first ranged DPS in general) a bit ago just hit 68 last night and I'm really starting to utilize the mobility with the more complicated leveling dungeons. Found myself doing donuts around a stormblood boss last while keeping up DPS haha.
It's been so fun learning SNM I'm amazed at how different the jobs play from each other now that I'm leveling alts and SMN drifting definitely sticks out 10/10 would recommend lmao. Thanks for the vid!
I have played SMN since starting the game and I have never had a need for Lucid Dreaming. I think I ran out of MP one time ever and it was back in HW when I first got DWT. I don't remember w
All the details, but I can throw out more spells now than I ever did back then and I haven't run out of MP in years. Am I doing something wrong?
The pain of seeing Garuda-Egi used on a boss in a Shadowbringers video… I can't know if there was a circunstance justifying it, but your dps sure had to suffer because of that. She's an aoe pet…
Am i playing summoner wrong….i never need to use Lucid Dreaming
Black Mage is the best job in the game. We are the only true dps.
As a RDM player, we need special attention. Especially when we yeet off platforms gracefully.
1:50 this is one of the reasons I hate these abilities centered around whether or not attacks are magical. Like the Dark Knight's magic oriented damage mitigation is hard to know when to use since there's no way of knowing. At least with stuns or interrupts you can tell because the charge bars behave differently. If they aren't going to add some indicator they should just remove these abilities, imo. Or reword them, like addle reduces enemies damage dealt and healing received by 10%
There IS a way to see if an attack is physical or magical! Any magical abilities used by enemies will show a glowing pulsing red cast bar while physical attacks have the standard yellow border. These are the same attacks that can be interrupted by Tank and Ranged DPS classes with Interject and Head Graze, as those are essentially "0 second duration silence" skills. Magical classes have Addle against these casters instead of an interrupt. AFAIK no mobs use instant cast magical attacks as any other are auto attacks and always physical.
I can't seem to do side casting right. Most the time it doesn't work for me; where I would interrupt my cast instead. Even when there's less than .2 left on the cast time it still won't work
When it works, I'm dumbfounded in how I got it to work. My 1gb internet is prob too good for this method.
Explooooooo-shun!
Awaiting the "So You're New to Blue Mage in FFXIV…" video.
Ironically, arcanist class is a good start for sprouts who want to try casting dps. As someone who started with arcanist, it may start as a bit clunky, but it has the most straightforward spell ruin. not to mention, before you hit lvl 80 smn, you'll find that there's no set rotation initially. it only gets complicated when you cap 80, but by then, you'll at least get a better grasp of what spell follows afterwards. People can get intimidated at the prospect of a 2-minute rotation, but by the flow of how it follows will actually be more rewarding once you get it right. Especially since ruin2 by default makes us the more mobile casters in the game, next to redmage.
summoner shouldnt move around when they have bahamut or the bird (i dont know the name) cuz the summons will stop doing whatever they're doing and go to you, at least if you have them on follow
RDM's; if you need to rez, please use your dual cast procs. Too many times Ive watched a red mage hard cast raise. Just cast anything then go for the rez
The most important tip for all range players cause holy mole they stand far
If you want to pick up slide casting easier, you can put an emote on your hotbar. When you’re casting, the emote will light up when you can move.
Woah, Happs not hating on RDM? What strange world have I awakened into? Seriously though, great video. One tip I actually picked up from another "new to casters" video I hadn't known about before was to actually throw an emote on your hotbar somewhere to get a visual indication on when you can "slide" in a slidecast. I've been doing it long enough to basically have it down intuitively but for the new casters out there, it seems like a really good tip until you internalize the timing.
If you're learning to Slidecast, put an /emote on your hotbar. It will look darker while you're casting, but as soon as it's fully accessible again is when you can move. #gamechanger
It is kind of silly there is no good way in game to tell physical from magic damage without randomly parrying damage or trial and erroring with Phys/Magic mitigation.
Sometimes you can use context clues like animation or cast name but that isnt always reliable, like Titan's Tumults being Magic not Physical.
If you play from Australia you can pretty much start slide casting half way through the cast
