  1. Love his content for FFXIV. He is going through it all, like a lot of us has. He is genuinely taking the same trip as us when it first came out – no boosts, no skipping etc., and this makes his opinion more genuine.

His material is different compared to other streamers and YouTube content creators for FFXIV and I find it entertaining and see him enjoying it especially compared to WoW. To be honest, it’s great to see him bring FFXIV into the spotlight that it deserves.

  2. I love his journey going through FFXIV… BUT as a newbie myself, I got to experience Pre-Asmongold Influx vs. Post-Asmongold Influx. Before Asmongold, people were more patient and easy going (waiting patiently for new people watch cut scenes, teaching people on the fly during dungeon). AFTER Asmongold, I started getting more and more dungeons where people just rush through dungeons, insult you for being slow, telling people to just skip the cutscenes already, a LOT more of that. People pulling mobs all over the place, not waiting for tanks or healers. They have become more of a mess lately. I can't explain it, I don't know who these people are, but there certainly is a difference before and after Asmongold's influencing WoW refugees to come to FFXIV. I'll keep playing FFXIV, and I will just have to cherish those few moments that I had before the influx of new players from that other game.

  3. I've only been watching a few of Asmon's highlights of his streams but it's been really refreshing to re-experience that original joy of discovering the game for the first time after the 6 years that I've been playing now.

  4. I watched everything with asmons stream and saw every bit of the story. The only thing i liked was the cgi of gandalf destroying baphomet but thats about it. The story is nothing for me and reminded me of why i love the skip button and why i cant stand games like xenoblade.

  5. People hate Asmondgold based on preconceived notions based on his thumbnails and haters opinions (haters who've never watched him)…I admittedly was one of those people. Just seeing a thumbnail pissed me off "wtf is this in my feed!!!!". His thumbnail post on starting ffxiv appeared at the same time I was considering playing ffxiv after blizzard failed players and I hesitantly clicked it thinking to myself "you're an idiot!". I sat and watched the entire video and enjoyed every minute. I laughed my ass off so many times and when it was over my opinion of him was changed and I realized my opinion of him was based on haters opinions and not personal perspective. I'm aware he has a reputation of being toxic and complained a lot about wow but I've watched him transform playing ffxiv. He's had moments I've seen wow Asmondgold realize his pov had been toxic and could watch his inner dialog on his face when he realized how he'd been wrong. All that said, I went from being a total hater to total fan. He's not what his reputation claims. He's funny and sharp witted. I love his commentary and he never acts better than other players. I love how well spoken he is when he's having IMO moments.

  6. Listen I actually require an explanation; ARR was boring, the quests were tedious, the story was bad, and then I get stuck with 80 quests to get to the first expansion I dont understand. Where is the good? Where is the good stuff that LITERALLY EVERYONE is talking about? DON'T GET ME WRONG HERE I liked the Dungeons, they're fun, the combat is tight enough for tab target but…. Where's all this stuff people keep saying was good because CLEARLY it went over my head.

  7. I thought Asmongold was toxic as all hell at first but much to my stupidity and ignorance like a lil bish basing that on his thumbnails and "drama" surrounding him i was very glad to of been proven wrong by watching the man himself… and while i don't have the mmo exp he does watching him play has pretty much encouraged me to pick up tanking in earnest on the road to getting my amaro mount.

(*greyscale* The only thing that stops me is anxiety and the whole dozing off mid instance thing which needless to say is detrimental to my performance. T^T )

    TLDR = I thought he was toxic. I was wrong/stupid/ignorant. He's a cool guy.

  8. See, I had the same experience that Asmon did. I loved ARR, and HW got me so ridiculously excited. It made me fall in love with the game even harder. I started playing a little after HW came out, and I haven't stopped since.

  9. The best thing about this is Asmon shattered the glass ceiling for a lot of folks skeptical about ARR in general. Lots of people are realizing it's not as bad as the hype makes it out to be and are trying the game which is awesome.

  10. Everyone says this is the worst content. Having just fine the quest Shadowlands and I'm not so sure actually. My recollection of the content he's just finished is that the story was actually better.

    Sorry to be contrary.

  11. I would say for me while I really like the story it also feels off in a MMO setting, like the story is very solo focused. (Yes I know many other mmos with story do this too and I think it feels off for them as well)

  12. I love that he's really given the game a good thorough chance. His criticisms have been fair, and you can tell he's really enjoying the story and the raids. I'm so excited to see his journey through the other expansions.

  13. I’m in 2.4 now, going into snowcloak. I’ve tanked everything up to this point just fine. I’ve been told snowcloak is kinda mechanic heavy for tanks. I’ve never tanked in any game before this one and everyone in this community has been cool about offering tips when they see the tank is a sprout. Normally, if I was to hear “hey this ones hard for tanks” I’d probably give up and switch to dps. But because the community has been so cool, I’m just gonna do it. I’ll watch some guides and get through it. Basically I’m just saying the people in this game are different than other mmos and it makes the content seem less daunting when doing it for the first time. Thank you FFXIV peeps

  14. I think it's important to point out that this was published on Zack's personal channel – not as Asmongold the personality but as Zack the individual. I was personally thrilled with the way he handled streaming of the game. He went into it with an open mind and treated the game with respect. So many people were saying he shouldn't stream the MSQ since people would find it boring. His numbers certainly proved that wrong. He is an entertainer and he provided a good gateway to the game for a large audience. Sure, game growth may be rocky and it sometimes can make some uncomfortable that their 'home' is having a large influx of new players but ultimately it will be good for the game as a whole.

  15. Playing through ARR to Heavensward is one thing. Playing from Heavensward to caught up is a … lot of MSQ. A lot of fetch quests. Never ending aetherytes for each map to enable flying. Filler in between the big moments that are quests after quests long.

FF14 is a wonderful story, that I would only want to ever do once. It can really burn a person out trying to go from ARR to Endwalker MSQ. There is a total of something like 585 quests currently

  16. FFXIV14 is worth trying. I played Paladin tank, and "quit" 5 years ago when lightning fried my computer. Loved the mechanics of the fights, and here is a huge tip if people in your raid party keep taking turns dying to the same simple mechanics over & over again, replace them, or find another raiding group that needs you … all the fights are choreographed … dying once the first time is expected, there is zero reason, no excuse. Or keep that last night open before reset and only take people that can do the fight.
