Silkie Guide – FFXIV Criterion Dungeon Boss 1 (Another Sil'dihn Subterrane)

This is a guide to Silkie, the first boss of the new criterion dungeon ‘Another Sil’dihn Subterrane’ in Final Fantasy XIV. This guide shows the current common strats for this fight, and also includes an uptime approach for Fresh Puff 4.

Sorry for the delay in making this. I have a bit more free time this week and should be able to release guides for the other two fights soon. Hope you find this useful!

  1. I remember it took my group over an hour during day 1 blind prog to realize you had to be moving during ice dash in order to not get frozen we kept thinking it was distance based or something

  2. This was the first “hard” content I’ve done in the game completely blind, and after some hours we finally downed the boss. It was incredibly fun brainstorming and making our own strats for this boss.

  3. I'm pretty sure that the healer will always get targeted by Slippery Sloap during Fresh Puff 3. Every pull I've been targeted by it. So the melee can stay at the boss so they can keep their uptime while the healer runs off to the other side

  4. For the slippery soap after fresh puff 2 (at 9:37 in the video), i never saw the blue version. It has always been the green or the yellow one during dozens of pulls, with multiple groups. I don't think that it's coincidence, it seems to me that the blue version is meant for specific mechanics (e.g. during fresh puff 1 and fresh puff 3), the rest of the time it would be either green or yellow (and usually when it's green, the next one is yellow, and vice versa)

  5. Two things: the cross lighting effect is a nice callback to Crono Trigger, I thought was cool. Second, the jumping thing for the ice attack can animation lock you into the effect, I found it much easier to just start running right as the the cast bar is finishing. You will stay until the stack and you will be well out of the snapshot- as that snapshot is really stingy

  6. Congrats on your Silkie clear (it was harder before the Hector guide) it took a lot of efforts (it was harder last week) but you have achieved your goal (Silkie was harder on October 21st 2022)

  7. There's a contingency for Fresh Puff 4 if some puffs weren't baited correctly, you should have lb2 at that point so you can tank lb and it'll last through the next total wash and could save a pull granted you didn't lose too much dps from earlier deaths or downtime. the damage down is actually very tame.

Does not work if the puffs explode.

  8. Hector, if it's not too much to ask, could you let me know the process in which you make your background images? It's super neat that it looks exactly like the boss arena!

  9. My group and I have been focusing on this ourselves, like learning it as we go before we look up anything. I found this just to get an answer about the tethers as that has been our wall with Silkie. I just confirmed what our question was with tethers and it's helped with us figuring out how to handle them ourselves!

Thank you so much for a very lovely set up guide to show mechs! It's helped greatly as a visual learner.
