Hello peeps play were you love ^_^
Short answer is no.
Proton is pretty decent it may work out of the box with their compatibility layer, or we may need to tinker a bit before it's officially supported
In a word, no. FFXIV needs to move to a better engine, and that will require more computing horsepower, not less. I get why SE would want to make it available on smart phones, Nintendo, Steamdeck, etc, that's fine with me IF doing so doesn't cause SE to nerf it on more powerful platforms.
Lets' not forget that FFXIV can no longer be played on PS3 because maintaining PS3 compatibility would have made current advancements non-viable.
I might buy the Steam copy of FFXIV, for the Steam Deck, just for crafting. I think the screen is too small for combat, but for crafting and gathering, might just be perfect…
all I've been thinking about since it was announced
Everybody give up your powerful personal machine and get on the cloud. Everybody give up your personal vehicle and get on the bus. Everybody give up your personal space and move into the government commune. Pushing everyone toward cloud gaming and away from having the computing power in our own hands is taking us quickly toward, "You will own nothing, and you will like it." No. Just no.
Hey now don't sleep on super hot. That was a great vr game
Be able to play ffxiv wile the kid monopolizes the pc? Shut up and take my money.
With Steams Proton FF14 should run just fine out of the box on Steam Deck with the specs it has. Valve has been continuously updating Proton and are working with anticheat softwares and other game storefronts like Epic Games Store to make proton better and allow people to play popular online games on Linux. Whether someone SHOULD play FF14 on it is up to the player and whether they like handhelds or not. I think it will be a great way to craft and gather and if someone is already a controller player it would be a good way to play the game in bed or on the couch. I will definitely be trying it out when I get my Steam Deck
I plan on getting this to play ffxiv. Crafting and marketboards are not ready for me
Too much potential lag for combat
i think the steam deck can install windows, if thats the case would 14 be able to run from that?
I will wether I should or not.
The reason I donât play with a laptop on my Lap even though I have one. Is heat – my man parts get uncomfortable and sweaty – even with a lap desk.
The reason I would rather play on the steam deck – is because when I play at my desk, more often than not Iâve already spent 8+ hours at a desk for my remote job, so the last thing I want to do is continue to be in the same room that Iâve worked in all day
While the steam deck may not have as good or even close to as good performance as my i9 3090 64gb ram beast of a gaming machine, it would be a lot more convenient for me to lay on the couch to relax and play, or on the ground on my foam rollers stretching out my back.
Though optimizing the HUD and learning my classes on controller is going to be a challenge
I have reserved the steam deck and i plan on installing windows and I plan on it being a FFXIV machine for me. My reservation says Q2 2022 so who knows maybe by then ffxiv will be linux compatible.
It wonât run destiny 2 at launch which is a bummer. But ffxiv would be awesome
Great chat fellas, this is most definitely going to be interesting on how Steam deck will affect FF14 and other games overall.
Pso2 would be perfect on it too
The real question is, can it run FFXIV?
Apparently Proton doesn't play nice with games that have anti-cheat features. FFXIV's protections may be a hurdle.
Meh, Just put it on stadia and you're done.
If square Enix is smart, they'll hire more people for Linux version of FF14. I can guarantee that people will double dip on it which could set software sale higher.
Brian, you give me hope. My life went from retail work and video games. I now have a 3 year old step son, and another child on the way. Right now I am busy and trying to get a more happy work life balance(going back to college) but seeing you play mmos and having time for your family. Gives me hope that I will be able to return to the lands of Eorzea one day soon.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
I really hope the SteamDeck succeeds because playing PC games on the go is awesome.
Don't get FF14 on steam period…
perfect for ff11on the go.
I might use it for crafting and gathering.
SomeOrdinaryGamers did a video on a chinese knockoff of the Steamdeck. He got FF14 to run pretty well at 30 or 40 FPS. The Steamdeck will probably run helluva lot better
A big issue is that they don't allow non-Steam FFXIV accounts using the Steam client.
FF14 should work out of the box on steam deck. Valve is using proton which is a Windows compatibility layer (similar to wine) for steamOS and they plan to to have an even higher compatibility than Protonâs current iteration.
Right now, FF14 runs fine on proton and should run fine on the deck
Chris please for the love of cat girls, update your terminology video so it doesn't show the huge spoiler of a death of a character. I'm really bummed out I saw that and I don't want anyone else watching it that's new to FF14 like me. Love you channels. Thanks
Had to mute my call at work when you called Yoshi P the first primal lol so true lol
No
Yeah Linux Proton basically runs windows applications like a virtual OS. It should work fine and anything you can play on pc should be playable on this given the specs can run it. I doubt valve would create a device if it can only play 10% of their games library. Thatâs not going to get a lot of sales
Man thank you guys you read my mind
You bet your ass I'm gonna at least try.
I have been playing FFXIV on a hand held device system for years now, and it's the Playstation Vita via Remote Play
It runs very well on my R5 5500 Asus laptop, and the apu is 1.4 tflops, it runs well at 1080p hight textures, medium shadow and lightning, so i think it's going to run flawlessly on a 800p screen with a 1.65 Tflops apu
Couldn't get the game to run on steam now I will forget trying on this
On the PS4 (because I'm more likely to find gold in my backyard than getting a PS5) and had to start using a keyboard and mouse because I ended up destroying THREE CONTROLLERS via getting analog drift and wearing out the X button from pre pressing skills 100000 times 0.5 seconds before it came off the GCD….
âDaggoneâ??? Is Brian former military?
If I can add the windows version of ffxiv onto the steamdeck oh MAN I will TOTALLY BUY IT DAY ONE! đ
