  1. Hien excusing Jifuya's actions in this story is… something that has never sat well with me. I think it was a major misstep by the writers. I feel like they were trying to make the story about redemption, but it overlooked the cause of justice.

    Tsuyu definitely did deserve better.

  2. Man you really don't need to care about randoms being mad about your blind run. Let say the newest patch just got released with a new trial, everyone goes in blind. You deserve the same experience especially you run these at min IL as a pre-made.

  3. Someone was mad you did Shinryu blind??? IMO that is the only way people should ever experience story mode trials/dungeons/raids. Not doing it blind spoils half of the fun….

  4. As far as Zenos's bullshit revival, it's indeed not as bullshit as it looks like. Early in the after ARR patchs, don't you remember A sahagin priest with the power of the echo body surfing after death? Zenos, as a resonant, should be able to do the same.

  5. Tsuyu's arc is highly underrated, and thematically Tsukuyomi is one of my favourite fights in the game. I think they should bring her back as a summon in other single player FF games. Goddess of Vengeance or such.

  6. Please don't pay any mind to anyone getting mad about doing fights blind. No one has any obligation to spoil themselves on fights just to have a better chance of clearing the first time and altering or potentially ruining their first experience of a fight.

  7. This is the part I wanted to talk about. A lot went into the choreography of this trial. Between the leitmotifs in music for all 3 phases and the symbolism in the fight.

The music of the first phase, Nightbloom. It's the Garlean/Ala Mhigan Anthem, but given a tragic tone. This is a fight that could have been avoided, but you are forced into fighting her after she turns herself into a Primal.

The music of the second phase, Lunacy. This is the Yanxia theme, but distorted. The whole phase is a reflection of Yotsuyu's past, and the torture she went through. The reason why Spectral Gosetsu shows up to save her from Spectral Zenos is because Gosetsu is probably the only person who is unconditionally kind to her, despite her almost killing him. While it was only for a short time, he has already left a huge mark on her.

Finally, the music for the last phase, Wayward Daughter. The song is sung by a male and female. The lyrics from female is about the current misery and dilemma of Yotsuyu and Tsuyu, while the lyrics from the male is sung by her tormentors, included her parents.

Through the fight, there's a clear symbolism of the Red spider lily, also known as lycoris radiata or higanbana is a bright red flower that is often found around graveyards in Japan. The bulb of the flower is poisonous, and they are planted at graves as tribute for the dead. They are associated with death and legends say if you meet someone you'll never see again, these flowers will bloom along the path. They also symbolize loss, longing, abandonment and lost memories.

All phase transition attacks have a giant spider lily in them, and the flower grows during the late summer/early autumn rainy season, which is also known as "Tsuyu".
    (Thanks to
Hennnibear for the info on the symbolism)

  8. Yeah, you pretty much got all of them right. Reprimand's the raidwide, Torment's the tank buster, the stacks are a "don't hit 5 or you die", and you just avoid things and come back in for stacks. The only things you missed are: The adds are attacking her, actually, and that's what builds up her power, but the memory of Gosetsu fights off Zenos to protect her; the circle stack is supposed to be an Akh Morn stack, meaning you stay stacked until the pulses are done, and she adds one pulse every time she casts it! (That gets used a lot throughout the game for soft enrages.)
As usual, good intuition! The game, by this point, has set up the basic markers and rules, and this fight kinda makes sure that you understand it all. I appreciate that, instead of a redemption, her arc is presented as a tragedy that she couldn't escape, but that the people involved at least had some good come to them!

  9. FFXIV: Ok so they just won a war. Time to kill someone.
    Players: But many already died.
FFXIV: Well we'll bring some back and rekill one of them… and this time it'll really hurt.
    Players: T.T

  10. The story of Gosetsu and Yotsuyu is so devastating. I didn't want to say anything leading up to this but this part made me cry so hard. Even in her mind Gosetsu came to save her. I cried again watching this, damn this story is so good. The crazy thing is that it still gets better.
