Shadowbringers is a TROLLEY ride of emotions | FFXIV Shadowbringers Reactions [Part 8]

I cry very much in this video. This is such an emotional and beautiful part of the game with all of the Minfilia things and Ryne getting her name. I hope you all enjoy! I one again apologize for the length of the video.

  1. I've noticed that some people have a hard time identifying voices, a lot of people believed exarch and ardbert sounded the same when for me they were nothing alike.

  2. Ryne's character arc makes me cry so much.

Living in the shadow of not only the original Minfillia but living up to the expectations of countless other Minifillias. And then Thancred comes along and puts even more burden on her, constantly reminded of his lost childhood friend, it's no wonder he had such complicated emotions. He didn't need to keep her around, he could have left her with the Crystarium, but he chose to travel with her and in doing so he only abused himself and in return he sort of passed on that abuse to her. I don't think he meant to do the things he did but he still did them and that left such a terrible strain on Ryne.

Then when Magnus said "All you left behind was this useless thing." It was like Magnus was Thancred and Ryne was that golem, she couldn't handle it anymore.

And right at the end with all the emotions at a peak Thancred finally lets go, Ryne gets to make the choice, she can either choose to become what she was expected to be by everyone or forge her own path and try to become the person that she wanted to be all along.

Thancred and Ryne's dynamic was complicated and tragic but also at the end they both found a way to accept not only each other but themselves. This expansion dealt with some just fantastic themes and executed on them well.

  3. Never feel stupid about not knowing who any of a dozen "Mysterious Strangers" or "Man With One Left Boot" or whatever are. There's a smegload of NPCs in the game, and when you're playing — or at least, when I'm playing — your attention tends to be hyperfocused on the mission at hand, not this one guy you saw in a cutscene 2 expansions ago. 🙂

  4. I am a 42 year old man… I have been playing MMOs for 23 years… and I will unashamedly admit that I was a blubbering mess through a good half of Shadowbringers. Such a great story. I can't wait for Endwalker.
