Savage Dungeons! Why Criterion Dungeons are GAMECHANGING! [FFXIV 6.2]

THE FUTURE OF FFXIV IS NOW! I’ve been asking for this for YEARS! Savage Dungeons are coming to Final Fantasy XIV in Patch 6.25 and to say the absolute least I am beyond excited. World of Warcraft’s Mythic Dungeons in FFXIV!? YES PLEASE!
I literally subscribe to World of Warcraft JUST for Mythic+ Dungeons! This is outrageously good news!

  1. I wonder and worry about the job balance discourse even more now. They’ve only had to really balance jobs for 8 person parties, but here’s hard stuff for 4 people where balance matters. Won’t party buffing jobs (and especially bard) be weaker when there’s only half as many people getting buffed?

  2. lfg agreed this is the most exciting thing ive seen announced for the game and frankly something ive been slighty envious of WoW for a lil even tho having never played WoW but I also love PotD and HoW so this is def for me but the idea of a small group of frens is gonna be so awesome

  3. I think criterion dungeon can be infinitely better than M+ because of ffxiv's less chaotic encounters, more room for planing and less wtf because of bullshit mechanics like a random silence or a punishing dot that triggers under 90% health and the healer needs to pay attention 100% of the time, its not fun.
Barbacia(storm's crown extreme) has some rng and chaos, but its the good type of chaos, where you have a clue what to expect at least cause you can pinpoint what wiped you and even if you go in blind you can figure it out cause you did normal. In wow there might be 3 mechanics at once that cause a wipe, just dealing with one wouldn't be a big deal but dealing with 3 is a big deal, and all that stress goes on the healer cause they can be outhealed, dispelled, mitigated,or something else….

  4. Yeah CD looks fun but it's nothing like M+ system. Reminds me how YoshiP told everyone many times IS is not a housing replacement and a lot of people still believed IS was a housing replacement, lol.

  5. Dude I've been wanting harder dungeons that you can explore for YEARS!!! I'm really hoping that the dungeons are similar to the dungeons in FFXII, those were my favorites. Deep dungeon somewhat reminded me of it

  6. I don't think we should expect repeatable, varied experiences like M+ offers. I think these will be more like Extremes, where it's kind of a one and done type of thing with the option to grind a hundred totems if you want a mount or something exclusive.

WoW's spec balance is definitely worse than XIV's, but it's because the game is a thousand times more varied in it's gameplay experiences. If XIV were to design fights the same way WoW did, we'd see a lot worse balance even without adding in variables like talents, gear stats, trinkets, etc. When aoe damage literally doesn't matter a single bit, and the only damage that does matter is single big guy with two minute burst on a 100% uptime profile, it would be inexcusable for the balance to be anything short of perfect, because one guy can calculate the damage each job needs to contribute on a napkin to solve that equation.

If CD have relevant dps requirements, I am actually quite worried about balance going into them. Tanks besides warrior will be dog because warrior just cranks on AoE. Party buff jobs will be dog because there are only 3 other targets to buff instead of 7. I hope they just make the mechanics very difficult and leave timers or enrages out of the equation so that everybody can complete regardless of how bad their job is at dungeon damage profiles.

  7. WoW m+ dungeons are mainly fun because they require more than just brainless dps+a few mechanics, all dps have a ton of utility, multiple defensive and even immunities, stuns/slows/roots which all need to be used effectively to even survive at high level keys since a healer wont be able to save you.
FF14 right now sadly lacks both classes having a ton of utility and content that actually requires said utility, content is designed around current class design, if class design lacks utility you cant really design content that requires it so I am not sure what they can do about it.

By having utility you choose how to approach an encounter, a big issue with ff14 has been that how you approach an encounter is extremely limited and often obvious.

  8. Man when you started talking about BM Hunter in Shadowlands, I almost started to cry xD. I fucking love BM Hunter and it is the only DPS I consistently want to play and the state it was throughout almost the whole expansion is something I almost had forgotten. ^^

  9. I don't mind this kind of content, in fact I have long been of the belief that less is more in regards to team size. I look forward to trying these. Big raids with huge amounts of people are far more limited in what kind of design is actually practical.

  10. Lul, i have played wow aswell but in ff14 i would only do it for the rewards. So they either need to make some kind of season system or so because once i've got the reward, there is no point in continuing doing it. I mean m+ is already boring in wow. I think mounts, pets glam would be cool , maybe do a currency you can farm to get raidgear to make raids easier
