I was invited by Square Enix to check out FFXIV Dawntrail early, and here’s how SGE is changing as well as what I think it means for the future of the job!

  1. Oh goody. Eukrasian Dykrasia being a slight DPS gain over Dosis was what I was praying for.

Granted, it's barely changing the rotation overall but I'll take anything to break up the 1 spam at this point.

  2. Perhaps the reason soteria got a decreased cooldown is not directly because recite has a lower cooldown, but because getting more uses of aether flow increases your fairy gauge, which is the soteria equivalent?

  3. All great stuff! I only have two critiques for the kit. One: it would be nicer if Psyche if it were a spell and not an ability. Then 60 ogcd is not as fun as 60 spell and would break up more of the dosis spam. And two: have soteria effect Philosophia buff, more kit synergy is always better, also would have loved it to be a spell.

  4. Toxikon II is now a DPS loss at max level. Jesus Christ, I hope this an oversight and they fix this at launch. It just renders the Addersting / Toxikon mechanic to near useless now.

  5. I appreciate getting a mini lb3 and all as a scholar, but im pissed that they appropriated miasma 2 (level 47) and shadow flare (level 50), exchanging it for a 120s aoe dot at double the level of 100 and giving it to sage instead still at far too absurdly high levels for what it should be. AS WELL AS giving them a 60s cooldown on top of that.
Like how in any way does that feel like an equivalent trade especially at aquisition levels.

  6. I expect that the Magick Mastery trait will quickly get patched to also boost Toxikon III when they realize people aren't using it over Dosis.

I like the idea of Eukrasian Dyskrasia being a Miasma 2 for SGE, though I wouldn't be shocked if they later patch things to only let you have one DoT on the target at a time, and mask it in a buff to Phlegma or Psyche.

  7. First off, thank you for the video! As for my thoughts, when you said “pale in comparison”, that pretty much summed it up for me. Psyche is cool, but we saw Alphinaud use it in the Endwalker cinematic. Clearly, they’ve had this devised for quite some time. I was actually quite disappointed when my sage couldn’t do what the cinematic portrayed, but as gamers we should be used to broken promises. Philosophia seems neat and in line with the Sage’s toolkit, but as you say, just not what a scholar can do. I like the idea of an AoE dot but, not locked behind Eukrasia. I often will cast Eukrasia in prep for a Eukrasian Diagnosis to save time later, and then use Dyskrasia (because it’s my only attack left) until I need to heal. This will basically FORCE us into taking an extra second to heal when we need it by restricting a spell prep step. However, this will again, only affect characters in lv 90-100 content, forcing us once again to learn a job one way at lower levels then re-learn it again at higher content. To be frank, it seems like they’ve made no effort at all to lift this healer off the floor of the healer tier list, or add anything new and exciting at all. I would even argue that Soteria was originally intended to be a 15 second skill but was debuffed for the lv 90 cap. Because that would have unquestionably (sarcasm) bumped the Sage into the 3rd best healer slot….

  8. I think the scholar and sage abilities are meant to have a similar buff to your shields, the upgraded scholar heals have about 20% more potency. The sage regen is likely slightly more powerful, but it doesn’t give you infinite pepsi though.

  9. I don't like that Eukrasian Dyskrasia's duration is the same as Eukrasian Dosis III's. Hopefully that changes when Dawntrail launches, but one of the qualities that made old Scholar more fun was that you weren't just refreshing your DOTs at the same time every time. Since Sage is supposed to be the more offensive healer, it would be really nice to see some of its attacks made available more frequently to offset the significant amount of time it spends spamming Dosis III. Changing the duration of Eukrasian Dosis III's DOT to 15 seconds instead of 30 seconds, as well as reducing the cooldown of Phlegma to 20 seconds from 40 would go a long way at making Sage feel more fast-paced without needing to massively change the job before 8.0.
