  1. I think the limited amount of houses actually bring the community together as players that create "venues" with their homes actually get people visiting them. Hanging out in the houses of the most dedicated housing lovers instead of everyone sitting in their own empty home, just because they have one and lack reason to explore, or we have so many venues that none of them actually gather up enough people.

I might be wrong tho, exploring for inspiration might keep people moving around anyway. But like sims 3 where everyone could be everywhere on the map at anytime and you never met anyone, comparing with sims 4 with limited lots where everyone is at the lot you are, makes the game feel more alive.

  2. I think ppl have to understand a crucial thing.
Endwalker was set up. Its like Avengers Endgame.
All set up from the beginning and thats what makes it so good. You couldnt top endwalker with dawntrail. To expect that is bonkers to me.
But dawntrail is still solid in its own.
It will set up new things that might be surpass endwalker at the end.

  3. I personally believe the story is extremely well written because it goes into all sorts of detail regarding the new characters we come across and the environments they live in etc. And of course explores a multitude of themes that are actually relatable. My personal criticisms is that I feel the quest designers were not able to accommodate the writing of the story in a more engaging way, opting to resort to fetch quests quite often to explain the story. There are many moments like this in the early parts that just felt unnecessary? I also felt Wuk’s VA performance was weak in a number of areas throughout the game so I implore them to either consider a more experienced VA or they work with the original VA more closely and provide additional context as to what actions the character is taking. Other than that, I think everything else so far has been really good in terms of gameplay (dungeons, trials)

  4. Wuk Lamat came across as a toddler proclaiming they're going to be an astronaut when they grow up. You simply cannot take her seriously, and it felt forced. Koana was a MUCH more developed and better sculpted character. I enjoyed the MSQ, but it was despite Wuk Lamat, not because of her.

  5. The biggest letdown of the MSQ is that I like the story and game so much because the character I play is the main character of the story. Sitting on the sidelines while some newcomer that wasn't even written well be the main character was just a bad time. Would have rather chilled with Estenian the whole MSQ than follow Wuk around.

  6. The worst thing about Dawntrail MSQ is, People knew it's a new Story Arc and went in there with lower expectations, but even with that the MSQ was a huge disappointment πŸ™
They didn't even need to do a top tier story to satisfy the people, simply a good and well written one with some fun moments and nice characters would have done it for the most people, but what we got was just embarassing for FF14 Standards.
It wasn't the summer vacation we were promised, this Expansions MSQ was more like standing in the queue for the rollercoaster, waiting and waiting for something to happen and then before the Rollercoaster closes and you're the last one about to get in super excited, Wuk Lamat skips the queue and got in before you with her VIP Ticket and all you can do is to watch Wuk Lamat having fun and simply go home.

  7. o/ I did enjoy the overall themes of Dawntrail MSQ but I didn't like the execution at all ! Feels like a lot of wasted potencial, at least for me this felt like the weakest story expansion so far, but when it comes to actual battle content I rank it very high, been having a blast learning the new Extreme Trials ❀❀❀❀❀

  8. This is the first expansion where I feel lkle the ideas for the MSQ story was only great on paper but failed in many ways on execution. To me it felt like a quality control issue from little things in the writing to big things in the writing. I could go into detail but there would be 100% spoilers. The essence of it though to me is that the writing quality is nowhere close to style I have come to expect from CBU3. It's almost like the writing was done by a completely different team.

Outside of the story, everything is S tier which is usually the opposite. All in all, Dawntrail is a very strange a confusing expansion.

  9. For the long term health of the game, Dawntrail needed to be a second step-in point for new players. I'm convinced now that this will never happen. The dungeons are far too elaborate in mechanics for newcomers to grasp. Furthermore, the MSQ itself was so unpolished compared to previous installments that it's just not a good introduction to newcomers, if we want to hold the game up to the standard that we've been used to. And I say this accounting for the fact that ShB and EW built upon their predecessors. It should've just been a world-building adventure, yet I struggle to see what building they did for future expansionS. Plural. I can see one, maybe two, tops. Both of which are rather minor and niche in scope. They are more hints than proper world-building. Let me know if I somehow overlooked something major that could be a leading theme throughout the next 5-10 years.

  10. My biggest gripe with the story wasn't Wuk Lamat at all. Like yeah, she's had to do ARR Alphinaud levels of character growth in 1 base expansion story, same as Lyse, which doesn't lend itself to realistic growth and definitely doesn't make it easier to grow fond of her as a character. However my main gripe with Dawntrail's story was the lack of combat. They did such a good job with the dungeons, the trials, and the scenarios, that it kind've makes me sad they didn't include a lot more combat in the MSQ. In the first 8-ish hours of story you maybe fight a monster once, twice at a stretch. I understand FFXIV's levelling isn't a combat-heavy affair, hasn't been so for quite a while now, but the amount of combat we got to do this time around was tragically low. In a story like ShB and EW where the stakes are almost always high, that's not that big a problem, but when the stakes are as low as they are, a little bit of combat to break up the monotony would've been welcome.
The latter half of the MSQ kind've redeems the dreadfully boring first half though.

  11. "Feedback loop"
I don't think that's accurate anymore. We've given several expansions worth of feedback and this is the biggest step back in terms of storytelling formula. The amount of filler, stalling and fetch quests is unbelievable this time.

  12. My MSQ feeling is that we should have done the first half in patches leading up to the expansion. The build up has been erroding in MSQ post ShB. Metion was just out of nowhere. Wuk Lamat was just out of nowhere. The first half was really just boring. Every time there was momentum building, it makes you do a dumb tour of the new area or some other menial task took you away . It was incredibly annoying. I also felt like they took away the feeling of discovery. It felt like you walk into a really cool store and and all you want to do is go left towards something that caught your eye. BUT theres an employee at the entrance insisting you hear all about their rewards program and that you just have to go right with her to look at the great deal on turnips.

  13. After waiting for 3 years for this expansion a lot of people were expecting a lot more than a generic, formulaic ffxiv msq in a new setting and with new characters. Awfuly slow start and simply boring storyline for pretty much first half of msq combined with a character that takes most of the screentime yet is disliked by most results in understandable frustration from players. If square has plans for FFXIV to keep growing they need to make an adjustments in these regards really fast. If storyline will continue this hollow trend going for 7.1 even I will mostlikely stop playing.

  14. Your enjoyment of at least the first half of the MSQ is very dependent on how much you like Wuk Lamat. If you like her, which I did, you'll enjoy it. If not, you'll struggle to.

But as for content, this expansion has been bountiful. Both extremes are fun, both expert dungeons and fun, the levelling dungeons are fun (albeit a little easy to tank for me but i get why), both trials are fun, hopefully the normal raids will be too!

  15. I loved Dawntrail's storyline! I love Wuk Lamat's journey! They have to bring in new characters instead of having the story always be about the Scions! We are Azem the Traveler, we need to explore! We should be helping other Adventurers rise up! Hopefully they make all of the jobs equal in that we eventually have 6 per group like we do now in Melee DPS! Then they need to stop with jobs! We can maybe get two more races but no more! I am hopeful for the new storyline! I am stoked for the MSQ story to continue in November if it is released then!

  16. You remember telling your non XIV friend that the game is great, but ARR is a little slow? I feel like that's been totally flipped on it's head. "Okay now when you finish Endwalker, please temper expectations." That said, the new jobs/duties/Extremes/zones are great.

  17. Been playing for 10 years. I just want a good story, good written characters and emotional connections. Not contrived and on the nose forced narratives. Not the characters we all love act like random npcs. Not using cheap shonen tricks without any substance.

  18. negative: too many re-used concepts of the story from previous expansions, a few unlogical moments, too many woke moments early on (pls not all female viera caster pieces with only flat butts again), too much slice of life while not enough action inbetween

positive: cool voice acting, interesting zones, great bosses, nice music, fresh naivety from her, easy going vacation / filler feeling (early on)

7.0 is a filler expansion, 8.0 will be the big reboot (holding back on big story parts for 8.0) AND PS4 gets dropped too in 8.0.
