Thank you! I've been wanting to get into FF14 for years now, but the idea of trying to learn to play (an MMO) on a gamepad was always so daunting that I'd put it off
when you said basics I didin't think you would go to the baby of basics. It's as if people have never played videogames before. I'd thought you would teach us mechanics not how to walk. Didn't realise people playing this game were this dumb. No wonder Yoshie P wants to simplify everything to be as agonising boring as possible.
I kind of like the class/job separation, it makes you feel like you're just some shmuck starting out as a nobody at the very beginning of the game. "Paladin" sounds way too important for someone fresh.
Plus it gives me the ability to instantly panic when I glance over at the start of a duty and see that I'll be healing a level 50 Marauder.
Man, I really appreciate Pat taking the time to make videos like this. I don't know that it's ever going to actually get me past feeling like this game would just be an uphill battle to play but if I ever decide to go crazy I'm glad this is here.
Man, I'm glad you did this. it's too late for me, I caved and taught myself all this during the Shadowbringers boom when I hard got into the game, but I remember thinking at the time "It'd be cool if I could just watch Pat explain this because we have similar mind goblins"
But it's still cool this exists, maybe I'll refer to it if I'm ever forced to use a controller
1:34:45 I have to question why you would make a video clearly for absolute beginnings like showing off character creation, then load into your main account and straight up spoil the new expansions by opening up your teleport list with Dawntrail and Endwalker locations. Not even gonna get into the fact that he showed the biggest fight from Heavensward.
So I play wow which is cartoony and silly all the time but I've tried ff14 and it's so ass-out dopey, PG, and impossible to take seriously that it makes wow look like a dark, grim, and serious story 😂 if people like that it's totally fine but I like to get immersed in an mmo and that's literally impossible with ff14 with all the goofy ass characters and "wink at the camera" jokes and bunny girls running around.
I've got more than 300 hours in this game, and yet I'm still watching this because I like the sound of Pat's voice and also he's teaching me new stuff.
i've been playing since the release of shadowbringers, and this is the first time I've learned about the expanded inventory option so thank you for that

3 hours to teach the menus and buttons? That's Pat!
I don't know why I'm watching a controller tutorial when I've been playing keyboard for 3,000 hours.
Maybe seeing the early game again just makes me nostalgic.
Me: has played ffxiv since the arr beta, still watching these all the way through
eyy sweet, have some co workers of mine that want me to try out FF14. good vid to start off on

Teaching people FFXIV? Really? The game thats super easy 99% of its content and has not changed at all?
the first tutorial got me into the game so this feels very nostalgic

I was messing around with Ninja and thought it was so annoying that Shukuchi was so fiddly, and turns out the answer is Macros
