  1. You weren't kidding last night, Garrett. This video is perfectly timed with the FF1 journey. I remember all these videos, good nostalgia trip (if you can call 2 years ago nostalgic)

  2. " I wish I had final fantasy hair" ~ Garret
    Years Later
Literally has Emet's Hair and would be a 1:1 cosplay minus the scowl lines.

Congratulations, you love Final Fantasy so much to became it irl.

  3. I find myself wanting to comment all sorts of advice to your past selves. I'm happy you kept going because I had a similar journey coming to ffxiv after playing classic wow and losing interest during classic BC. I never had anything against getting into ffxiv, i just didn't have time for 2 mmorpg games at the same time. It's been a heck of a journey though hasn't it.

  4. Listening you talk about the look and the art style of the game, I think that, at the point of the story you were, I'd agree. I think the game takes more time to really shine with cooler gear and weirder vistas. I don't think I got truly impressed with what I was seeing until HW.

  5. Kinda wild seeing the state of the game just a few years ago, with all of the QoL that's been added since. Aethernet map, achievements overhaul, ACN/SMN overhaul… 8-man praetorium!!

  6. it's funny to think by making these videos when you were doing the content, you also flash froze points of time in the game as well, such as Pre-6.1 changes to Castrum/Prae. Seeing 8 people doing Prae really took me back.

  7. hhahah, love the fact that Garrett says he think drk will be too much for him, and that he really interested in rdm and sam. and kyle says hes loving tankin. now its all inverted. hehehe

  8. You know what's funny? Your initial comments are exactly how I've felt returning to WoW after years (quit mid-Cata, briefly came back for WoD, and now maybe 75% through BfA?)… the textures are flat and weirdly worse in definition somehow. The environmental modeling is uncannily smooth. And it's not like I have a particular bias. BDO is the best looking MMO to date (except for when the 7.0 changes drop, maybe). I was FOR YEARS one of those painterly style defenders. i ran a blog and gushed about the water changes. But the painterly style now feels so dated, and if they are going to go for that, they need to get on the level of something like Overwatch. The only thing I really noticed is how often XIV's textures repeat.

Then there's WoW's map and quest journals. They suuuuuuuuuuck, lol. Mods make them ok, but at a basic level, yeesh. There's a lot of loading, as well, because of scenarios and other phasing oddities.

  9. Eh! A fun to watch while I celebrate my 35th birthday!

Man what really showed how long Garrett and Kyle has been playing this game was seeing Kyle do the Original Praetorium!

  10. 1:50:30 who would have thought Sailor Moon would be the thing to bring it full circle lol Kyle hearing a random bard practicing a sailor moon song and then during the Endwalker msq finale stream he wears a sailor moon shirt.

  11. Going to the beginning after witnessing the end (of main msq so far) is so nostalgic! I remember watching your first video and a few others that pop up back then, has it been that long? 😅
Anyway, thank you for the video compilation, definitely easier to locate and rewatch your earlier videos ❤

  12. I've been chronically rewatching your content since the ARR days, so I absolutely love this. I vividly remember watching you guys first dip your toes in to the game and thinking "they have no idea how much greatness is in store for them" and now you guys have finally beaten Endwalker. This compilation captures the start of your genuine interest in the game so well and it's a joy to have it all in one video.

  13. The last video in this is actually the first one of yours I ever saw, because somehow it took the algorithm that long to realize I was an emotional vampire for this stuff. This was such a great trip down memory lane!

  14. In terms of lore, Minfilia had her own office because she was the leader. At the beginning of A Realm Reborn however, the office was not an instanced area and you could see other players. But because it became too crowded with other players, they turned it into an instanced area.

And I'm really glad to hear that you both stayed attached to your character's appearance. I'm the same way, I've never felt comfortable changing anything major about my character. The one time I tried changing hair color with a hairstyle that had just come out, it didn't last for two weeks because I hated it. It felt like I was adopting a generic appearance just because it was popular at the time and my character didn't feel like herself with a different hair color. Even now, I've only truly changed her appearance on a permanent basis two times since creating her: first I went for a shorter haircut when I started Stormblood (also shared by Urianger in Shadowbringers), and then I "regrew" her hair for Endwalker. For Dawntrail, I am considering either changing back to a short hairstyle or perhaps going for a ponytail one.

In a manner of speaking, Coils is essential to the MSQ in the sense that it is where Alisaie's growth as a character truly begins. The Alisaie we met in A Realm Reborn before Coils was angry and resentful, and finding out the truth about her grandfather helped her at least begin to discover her purpose, what she wanted to accomplish and how she wanted to fight.

You have to be fair to Minfilia: there was nothing she could do against an Ascian to prevent her capture, but she still managed to protect Louisoix's staff from him. And you're right, Moenbryda was easily the best new character, topped by none since, and I also felt her loss keenly. The MSQ has kept her relevant in every single expansion since her death however, to the writers' credit, so that her work continues to have an immense impact on the story, and her close relationship with Urianger was the main reason he grew so much as a character and became so protective of his friends. Midgarsormr, however, for me in English was a joke, an unimpressive character who sounded like a massive troll, whereas Japanese Midgarsormr sounded both wise and concise, exactly what you'd expect of an elderly dragon.

I have to admit, for me the base expansion of Heavensward was a bit of a disappointment. Having started playing with a sub in early March 2015, it was my first experience with a new expansion, and the vast majority of Ishgardians were just not interesting, much less sympathetic. Ishgard itself was dark, drab and cold, and the tour we got of it was more of a chore than anything. Then the beginning with the brothers felt not only slow but incredibly boring. Without the Scions, the entire story felt sluggish with odd pacing, and Estinien was an ass. Thankfully, getting Y'shtola back injected some life into the story but Nidhogg continued to be more sympathetic to me than any Ishgardian. Thordan and his knights were easily the worst part of the entire expansion: some random religious fanatic of an old man with his lackluster goons who didn't have any real personalities, and they all think they're more important than they actually are. To this day, I still hate that fight. The patches brought us back all of the Scions and finally got us out of Isghard for good. Really the only good parts in those patches were those involving the Warriors of Light of the First and the Scions. Xelphatol was a fascinating and original dungeon, really fun to get through, as was the Antitower. Generally speaking though, Heavensward simply ended up being underwhelming for me because of where the majority of it took place, and it wasn't just Ishgard: Sea of Clouds and the Churning Mists were frustrating maps to navigate and not much to look at either. Compare these to Elpis which has these beautiful sprawling floating islands.
