  1. Stormblood had such good scores!! I find it really interesting that (trying not to be a spoiler) the other version of this song has such a different interpretation singing wise and it adds so much more to the story. I'm really happy you covered this piece, it's one of my faves!

  2. Definitely not my type of song, but it is an anthem so it exists for one reason. To show the love and passion towards its country and in this I'm impressed. You can feel the overwhelming patriotism for a country that doesn't even exist. Bravo. The singers nailed it.

  3. Idk anything about the technics of music and singing in general. But i love how this song have a very distinct feeling, comparing with "Measure of his reach" (the original ala mhigan anthem). Even tho both of them have the exactly same instrumental background, while this one sounds more "fake", vibrant and glorious, the other sounds more intimate, humble and genuine to me, all because the way those two songs are sung.

  4. The first time I heard "Measure of Our Reach," it immediately reminded me of "I Vow to Thee My Country" (the Thaxted/Jupiter tune by Holst). In fact, the meter of their lyrics roughly match—when I try to sing along, I find myself switching between them by accident. Soken nailed the anthem style almost TOO well!

  5. I love this song's place in Stormblood because it's such a strong example of cultural appropriation and forced cultural assimilation. This anthem is specifically for the Empire's occupation of Gyr Abania, and as such the musical backing is the same as the Ala Mhigan anthem with Garlean propagandistic lyrics. It's a forced switching of something familiar and culturally personal to the Ala Mhigan people for something similar, but distinctly different and with its religious connotations completely removed (as the Ala Mhigan version is "The Measure of His Reach", referencing the worshipped god Rhalgr, and the Empire is very distinctly an atheistic state).

  6. I wish this was the original Ala Mhigan anthem tho, to me it carries much more sentiment hearing the npcs sing their anthem after years of subjugation by the empire + I like the lyrics better

  7. Super interesting look into how these kind of national anthems work vocally.
I am trying to think of any national anthems from games I have played(that are not historical games)

  8. Tenors unit. Sadly I gave up singing in college after a one-credit-hour class became a 40-hour workweek to get the grade x.x That and I was the only non-music major in college choir x.x

Also, yes I sang the national anthem for my Father's command ceremony x.x it is not easy at all especially when it's something for your Father who worked his ass off for his Military command. Not to mention when you are such a reflection of your Father that shit had me for the first time in all of my singing career school-wise nearly pass out from locking my damn legs x.x.

I do have to ask though as you did sing professionally do you recommend it for an actual job or did you find it killed the enjoyment?

  9. i never knew why but each time i heard any kind of anthem is the proud of the singer and the music producer about what happened now and what they sing is a very proud of what they do in they live i love it keep up the good work

  10. For me this song is an indoctrination, much like any anthem, where people are made to care more about the country as an embodiment on its own rather than the people who come and work hard together to create it.. so (to me) this anthem creates a kind of ominous atmosphere, (not unlike anytime zenos enters the scene) and a dishonest deified fairy tale for its home people (i.e. North Korea).

  11. O come ye wayward brothers,
    Bereft of hearth and home,
Beneath yon burning star there lies
    A haven for the bold

Raise up your hands and voices,
Let fill your hearts with pride,
    Above the churning waters we
    Stand strong and unified

We blessed few, born from blood,
    With tired hands do toil
To shape this rugged land of ours
And build a home for all

    Beyond the silent watchmen,
    Upon the great loch's shore,
    Now stands a mighty citadel
    Our rock forevermore

To ye who help your brothers,
    Shrink not from Rhalgr's flame,
But those who scorn their fellow man
    Shall surely share his pain

Though storms of blood approach ye,
    Hells open, Heavens weep,
No goodly soul need ever fear
    The measure of His Reach

  12. The poetic irony of using the appropriated anthem the Garleans stole from Ala Mhigo, of which said tune also happens to be one of the central leitmotifs of the Stormblood expansion

  13. So first of all I didn’t expect a country to slap me with this piece and can someone please tell me how to use discord. Because I have no what I am doing and no idea how to work it.
