Oops, I got really addicted to an MMO – Final Fantasy 14

I don’t really like MMOs, yet I’ve somehow sunk 312 (and counting) hours into Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV – A Realm Reborn. How did this happen? Why did this happen? Where did this happen? All your answers AND MORE will be answered within this video!

  1. Dude way to keep going above and beyond! This was some of your smoothest editing yet, never a boring shot and every frame felt incredibly intentional and labored over. I loved all the lil animations and effects you had on the text omg that was so good. Also putting Snug girl in to emote to things was lovely! The script was paced perfectly, and the video had this great direction that keeps the viewer engaged to see the resolution of you loving the game! All the clips of you and the gang playing together were oh so wholesome as well and really helped solidify your already evident passion for it! Thanks for another Snugboy banger to wake up to, your channel's got a bright future man! ❤‍🔥

  2. The thing about FF14 is they machine gun all these activities to hope at least one will stick. Me coming from long line of grindfest MMORPGs, being able to play all classes in one character made it all too addicting. And getting into raids and clearing them. Flexing the weapon and glam. Doing more damage than others. Basically anything to inflate my ego. But there are unexpected surprise as well like me getting into MSQ after skipping it for 6 years. I finally got into it and redone all of the MSQ. Now, I am fully in. I am so invested with this game from gameplay to characters. Yoshi P got me hooked.

  4. There's a 4M MGP mount now. Go get that one. 😀
Also, make it rain event should be coming up in the next few months, this is when you should grind for MGP, if you wanted to.

  5. It's been so fun playing alongside you, Snug. We'll get you endwalking in no time 😎 I love how much personality you put into this. I may be biased because I was there for a lot of it but just listening to how passionate you are about your experience had me smiling so so much. You are such a great writer and these videos are so enjoyable. You should be proud.

  7. FFXIV is extremely good at early-game-sucking. In.. both contexts. Sucks you in, but also ARR actually kind of sucks compared to literally every other expansion. The community has a nice exterior but the longer you look, the more you realize there are.. a LOT of toxic people on FF. The difference between FF and other games though, is that the toxic people on FF take more of a passive-aggressive, or manipulative approach since outright being toxic is easily reportable. That still doesn't take away from the good fun I've had playing it. Kinda bounce back and forth between it and WoW, depending on which one has current content.

That said, WoW has always struggled with the early game and the new player on-boarding. With the newcomer chat (like sprout chat in FFXIV) you start to see Blizzard finally adopting some FFXIV mechanisms to do that, but WoW really doesn't shine until you're out of the old world, just like FFXIV.

Chances are if you tried WoW and you didn't get beyond level 40, a player will have absolutely no idea what WoW actually is. Especially today, following Dragonflight. Even ESO has better on-boarding than WoW does and theres no actual gradual growth in power to ESO. You get everything right at the start and thrown in to a massive world. (Yet another thing Bliz is looking in to with the core mechanics overhauls that apply to all levels, like the professions). It's a struggle over here on the Blizzard Bus.

  8. I was always pretty skeptical of MMO's after WoW left a sour taste in my mouth. And now here I am, 1200 hours deep into FF14. Trying to max every class and crafter so I can make money to buy cool new virtual clothes.

I'd fucking do it again. 😂

  9. Man I just finished the 3.4 storyline and I am fully on board with this entire game now. I’ve been playing for a couple hundred hours now and enjoying my time, but the story didn’t quite hit as consistently until that storyline. Absolutely amazing storytelling

  10. I was on free trial and doing my msq in Arr (around lvl 35).
I was on Uldah and saw a snowman. (Its the mount but I had no idea) and I'm kike wow you can be a snowman in this game? I went and hugged the snowman and they jumped with joy.
I smiled and continued with my quest.
From then where ever the msq took me I would find that snowman waiting for me. i was surprised every time and hugged the adorable snowman. This went for couple of hours.

Later I found out that thats a mount and since that person found my amazement very amusing and kind of guessed my msq location, they'll just fly there and wait for me.

Its very silly and lil thing, but it's a memory I'll be very fond of for always

  11. I'm going to be honest, I log in most days to do jump puzzles and play Bard concerts. I never thought in a million years that I would pay a subscription to do this, but it's what makes me happy.

There are people that login just to take incredible screenshots all day and shoot the shit with other players at Limsa, or the Quicksand.

    FFXIV is something special.

  12. I'm a chronic anti skipper so even during the weakest parts of ARR I was like "Must. Not. Skip." It made things drag on a few times but I'm glad I didn't skip because it really pays off down the line.

  13. This was a phenomenal video. More of this please. It does look like a ton of work went into this so I would imagine we would have to be patient. But damn that quality is great.

  14. I struggled with ARR too. My housemate begged, and begged, and BEGGED, me to play the game with him as I was the only person who liked Final Fantasy in the house, and the only one out of our entire friend group who loved storytelling and lore and worldbuilding as much as him. I was a bit wary though, female+gaming+from the 90's=never had a good experience with multiplayer, ever. Got the game back when the free trial was to level 15 and you only got as far as your first airship ride. Deleted my account, wiped it from my machine, and carried on with life. Then the pandemic happened and I decided to give it a go on PC since I had nothing better to do, and my friend's whining was getting annoying lol. Got as far as Titan and was so bored of the cheese and wine quest I didn't touch it again for months. Endwalker dropped, and I had two weeks uninterrupted over Christmas because, hey, pandemic, I'm not expected to travel to family (plus it was funny to hear my friend raging because he couldn't get in due to the insane queues, meanwhile I'm so used to being up at 6am I would get online at like 7/8am and have a queue of like 7 people, he got online at 1pm and had to wait for over 5k lmfao rip). So I sat down and blitzed through the remainder of ARR – honestly, the White Mage class quests and the hints of lore there about the War of Magi, the Sixth Umbral Calamity, Gelmorrah, and the birth of Conjury creating the Padjals were what hooked me. Then Heavensward smacked me hard. It wasn't JUST the story, it was the culture shock of the races we were introduced to, plus the worldbuilding, and the portrayals of all the separate points of view and how it wasn't 'yay we won let's ride into the sunset'. No. It was messy. It was hard. And people HAD to work not for their happy ending because it never truly ends but for a happy future. Christmas of 2021 saw me go from ARR to finishing Stormblood mid-February despite working full time (I was classed as an essential worker and still had to go in). Shadowbringers though. *Shadowbringers*… You, my friend, are in for a fucking treat. I wish I could go back and play that again for the first time.

on a side note, i recommend Noclip's documentary about the rise and fall of ffxiv 1.0
you can find it here on yt and helps understanding how the game came to be the way it is. so much respect for dev team for everything they have done, which is absolutely insane.
