Why do you fight? Why does your Warrior of Light do what they do? This quest blindsided me, making me think about the entire journey so far… and what it means to leave a legacy behind.

My plot prediction is that we find a way to charge up the Azem crystal one last time and bring back the Ascians. We can't bring back the past like Emet wanted, but perhaps there can still be a meaningful future for them. After all, we still have a Moon-sized spaceship and a whole universe full of lifeless worlds just waiting for a bunch of wandering creation magic specialists to come along and get things going again. A new start to a new story, both for the universe and the Ascians.
Plus it means we might get to hang out with Emet some more.
I agree, this quest was one that you won’t forget anytime soon. <3
I think people are underestimating the implications of Pandaemonium's appearance into "our" world. I know usually XIV doesn't like to tie Raids into the MSQ, but I really feel like bringing "Hell" directly into our world isn't a good thing.
Or we might get a patch .6 to help set up 7.0 which is fine with me if they add a patch before the next expansion it will be worth it. This team has more than earned my trust to have a great tear jerking story that even at this moment I’m at 6.2 on edge waiting for .3 for more but I still think of key moments like 5.3 for example.

That's a very touching way to interpret the event quest. And I can certainly agree with how you answered the questions for the new adventurer.
Me personally I did send him down the path of fighting. But to me, that is my Warrior of Light sharing the joy of adventure with someone who's beginning their journey. Since that's a big thing that they focused on with Newfound Adventure that resonated with me. To show the new generation that, though the world is dangerous, it's exciting and beautiful. And being an adventurer brings you to all corner of the world. Granted of course, the new kid can still get that same experiance as a crafter and gatherer, But that's just me. ^^;
This is my 3rd year playing and the first time I actually did this quest. Read every word and let it roll over me. Beautiful message for a beautiful game.
I have a couple of characters, and on a complete whim, I first did the Rising quest as my dude who started in Ul'dah. I'm so glad I arbitrarily picked him, because it resonated that much harder for me. <3
This event is a gem because it highlights so many things.
– the calamity which is ARR launch and the games relaunch
– thanking you for playing and sticking with them
– illustrates how great the community is, it feels like we're all together as in we all are going to experience the next big story and the game as a whole together.
Matt: "Even just trying physically to remember all the things the Warrior of Light has seen and done and has ultimately been through is pretty hard…"
"And there may come a day when you forget the faces and voices of those you have met along the way. On that day, I bid you remember this: That no matter how far your journey may take you, you stand where you stand by virtue of the road you walked to get there"
Hyur face #5.
Pathetic.
Wow, I'm so sad I missed this one… that's so lovely, it's a beautiful denouement for Endwalker.
Something I had thought about a lot during shadowbringers was "What about when I'm really dead?" because I was roleplaying that expansion as the last hurrah that I wasn't going to survive. The Warrior of Light is such an unstoppable force that the only one who could even come close is someone who ate the aether of Zodiark, and half of Hydaelyn, not to mention countless Garlean souls. Meanwhile I'm just a guy with a book, a Fairy, and a lot of passion. Who would step up and meet the challenge of meteion if the Warrior of Light had died in the first? What happens when he eventually does die, and the next threat shows up again?
It's why I chose to recommend a life of war and bloodshed and heroism. There's never any shortage of threat and despair, so there should be no shortage of brave souls ready to meet the challenge.
Personally, I think that the big change in 7.0 is going to relate to the Kairos. It'll somehow find a way to linger into the current day, and it'll be used to wipe everyone's memories of who the Warrior of Light. That way we get a clean slate for whatever is coming next. I'm kind of hoping for a time skip of some kind so we can get to see grown-up Alphinaud and Alisaie rival our strength
4:05 — What would my WoL want for the next generation? To have the tools to make a difference, I guess. I often hear people jokingly saying "I go where MSQ tells me to go" – but I think, given the partially pre-determined character of our WoL (we are the hero in the tale, so we act accordingly), we would've done these things regardless of having a choice or not. And especially since the world is a violent place, especially with all the misery in it, my WoL would want to make sure that future heros can meet and survive it. I like what Gandalf said in LotR (the books): that we can but prepare the soil for the future generation, but that we cannot garantie a rich harvest – something along those lines, anyway. So yeah, even if we save the world numerous times, there will always be conflict brewing, there will be always a "snake" in "paradis", there will always be a Teleji Adeledji, and a Lord Lolorito waiting on the sidelines. And I think, our WoL knows this: we know, that every peace if just ephemeral, that nothing lasts. That Emet-Selch's accusation of the nature of our existance was ultimately true. But we also know, that we would always pick up the fight again to do what we think is right, for the good of others, for those we've lost, for those we might yet save. Thats a heavy burden, of course, but it is a rewarding path none the less. After all, thats what Endwalker was all about. To quote the Vigil from GW2: we fight for those who cannot fight themselves. And we know, from Edda's story, from what we experianced during that body-swap solo duty, that adventuring and surviving in this world isnt as easy as we might think.
Also, funfact: that scene of the adventurer entering Ul'dah… its precisely the one you get to see when you enter the city for the first time (if its your starting zone): same NPCs in the background, the chocobos "kweeeh'ing" – everything 😀
Maybe I'm just getting old (38), but this quest didn't really hit me too much. I can see the heavy sentimental value of it and I thoroughly enjoy these annual events. Been around since beta of 1.0, posting on the forums, etc., so the scenes certainly hold more weight than it would for many others just in terms of experience with the games development and firsthand account. Walked through those gates of Ul'dah for the first time in more ways than one. Even the choice of telling the event character to be a crafter/gatherer, right off the bat, is something that came from 1.0. You could do that as a player. Start off during character creation as a crafter/gatherer.
To say that the devs would be ashamed of 1.0 and the ideas about it is objectively incorrect. The execution was the problem, not necessarily the ideas. That's the key takeaway. Virtually everything that XIV is now, came from the ideas of 1.0. Those ideas of 1.0 came from FFXI. So on and so forth.
The Rising quest was super nostalgic for me, starting the game in 2014 in Ul'dah to become a MNK, and getting to play the role of Wymond greeting new adventurers felt so amazing. Because I have multiple characters, I tried both options and ended up choosing for him to become a fighter on my main, because he seemed to be a natural and I got to see Hamon with a new disciple. One of my alts has been skipping through the story, but one of the random curscenes I decided to watch was when Doman kids were asking about adventuring and I answered them. It made me wish the new beginning after 6.0 was more about moments like this and The Rising, while setting up the Golbez threat more in the background.
Yoshi P also said that Krile would have a big role in 7.0. And Krile being inspired by Krile Mayer Baldesion from FFV that had the ability to talk to animals, I suspect that the new job will be Beastmaster. The other job would have to be Geomancer.
Lorelines had also recently made a video about the end of FFXIV, and how seemingly it's setting up to be a time loop.
That would be really fun if they pulled it off with new game + 🙂 and making us help new players.
Also, I just did Castrum in Bozja for the relic weapon quest, and there's a lot of relevant information there about crystals, memories, primals etc. (even beastmasters) that should be taken into account when lorecrafting.
Man I must be a monster…the message didn't hit me at all. It was nice…only been playing for 3 years though.
I cannot stand listening to Matt speak
God damn it i missed the rising event this time.. i wanna cry
I think this choice shows how much more cynical I am but even cynicism can still find a little faith in people.
I don't believe danger will ever fade from the world, the need to fight and struggle will always be there. So I chose to direct him to fight, and yes maybe there is tragedy in that choice, sorrow that those who fight will still be needed.
However, I have faith in them, those that come after us, faith that they can bear this burden as we have, and maybe, hopefully that after all of my own struggles, the burden they bear is somewhat lighter then my own.
I believe they will rise to the challenge, and even in the fight that awaits them for this world we call home, I know they will find their own reasons to smile.
Was YoshiP’s message a big hint of a great change in the game? I understood the cutscene as a meta thank you message talking about the great troubles we are facing in the world IRL, as well as referring to the literally new players joining the game.
Do you think our beloved friends (NPCs) are going with us on our further journey (7.0 and beyond)?
Somehow I'm a bit scared of the "huge change" they plan to do even tho I trust Yoshi-P.
I just don't know if it would be FF14 for me anymore if we're losing some/most of the scions.
I'm going to go out on a limb here guessing at the drastic change: Void gates opening up all over, and a rejoining of the Thirteenth unlike what we've seen before: Just open gates between worlds. Permanently opened gates. Perhaps Golbez, after absorbing the Thirteenth's fragment of Zodiark, seeks to rejoin. But he may not know about Zodiark's downfall.
i love that matt is the "expert" on ff14 for this channel now. 😀
well thought out videos and well delivered thoughts on the game. shining a light on positives and negatives.
just wanted to say thank you matt, keep' on keepin' on. great work.
I ran off to do this one, got hit with emotional damage from the music (Answers, reprise) and felt much the same as many others have said, through the actual quest. We're the old hand giving helpful hints to new blood, because getting new blood off on the right foot is key.
Matt taking the first steps down the road to true RP.
This video added to the feeling of the rising event as well so thank you for this
your glamour looks boring …. o/
It is “to the edge” for newbies. For the veterans, we need to go “beyond the edge” so the new people know that the possibilities are there and so they have a point or some points to reach for
The point where the adventurers lined up in their beginners gear made me smile. Looking back, i know the beginner me would have never thought i would have become a mentor.
I think they will make an alternative path in 7.0 The MSQ is getting too long, too mandatory. I think it will be an alternative path for new adventurers to start. That is the big risk they are intending.
…I can’t believe I missed this years Rising…I feel dumb
What if what we've been doing on Aetherius is similar to what Ardbert and his friends did on the 1st, and we've shifted our world heavily towards the light. And, what if something major happens on the 13th which shifts it even further towards the dark, and we're mucking with a permanent gateway to that world. Let me pose this question, what if the Scions accidentally cause a Rejoining? How would that change the game?
The reason this quest hit me hard was cause it's been a bit over a year since I convinced one of my friends to start the game. He chose to be a catboy….started in Uldah….Went pugilist….and I was waiting for him leaning by the Adventurers Guild
