In this video Xeno goes over the recent changes for the gifting system in Final Fantasy XIV. From now on most gifts are no longer allowed in game, which negatively impacts content creators, charities and casual players in general.

This is more about payment processors. If you fuck with them, all of a sudden you cannot get paid. It's a valid measure to save their ability to even get paid. It's less about the the actual method of gifting and more about "don't fuck with Visa"
How bad things have gone if SE went this far?
I think the company which handles all SE monetary business demanded them to lower the costs of refunds
You don't fuck with payment processors when getting charge-backs from fraudulent purchases. If the payment processor says jump, SE and ANY businessperson with half a brain is gonna do a backflip. Otherwise, if the payment processor says goodbye, then nobody gets to buy ANYTHING online. Plus, SE would be blackballed on every other payment processor in the industry, let alone the major ones that can handle the large volume of transactions.
It's not a problem that we as players face, but it's a BIG problem. Especially when SE had that recent attack that compromised log in information and CC data. They HAD to do something because the fraudulent buyers were already or going to skyrocket.
The same happened in runescape for the same reasons. In order to fight fraudulent memberships and RWT, they introduced bonds. The pretext behind it is that you can now play the game, and pay for sub with in-game money. Which is true. But the bonds need to come from somewhere, meaning you can literally just buy a ton of bonds and sell them for gold. It became incredibly obvious a person who bought their gear with bond money vs those who earned it. It's shit either way you look at it.
Sure it lets people play for "Free" but at the cost of the entire economy.
they had that 'hack' a while back of the password access attempt to get in. I bet they got in to a lot of accounts and made charges that had to be reversed, and the card carriers hate that stuff. I guess SE had to make changes to avoid being marked as a fraudulent endpoint for transactions.
How will my bun bois send me store mounts now? Why so Grinch!
Stay focus do what you are doing you time ⌚ will come 🎓⌚✊💪💪
Zelphy mainly talked about how she does for christmas time she does giveaways and how it really effects.
Buhh
Sqenix again making the most stupid decision ever? What a surprise.
It's impressive how a billion dollars company can be so fucking dumb.
Overall they will lose money by doing this, a lot of FF streamers gift a lot of items to their viewers, that's a win for SE, but nope! SE is just as dumb as they've always been and the people taking care of these things in FF are incredibly dumb. There's a reason I'm not gonna go back to the game, SE are just fucking trash, if it wasn't for YoshiP they would have implemented NFT:s in FF14, that's how stupid the company is. I will never defend stupid decisions not matter who does it. SE are just as bad as most other AAA companies, the only reason why FF14 has managed to survive is because of the core team, not thanks to SE.
SE had to make a choice: profit they get from making more paths for people to give them money, or the amount of money they have to spend on combatting RMT. I'd rather they spend it on stopping rmt.
Im going to be completely honest, I never knew you can gift items from the online store until now lol. Like, I thought from the beginning, whatever item you buy, is by default locked down on your character xD
The excuse of oh no the person might already have said item! you can just look at their lodestone account and see what mounts/minions/ etc they have before gifting its not hard. or square could put more than 2 seconds thought into it and create a system that will not allow you to gift something to someone who already has it XD
Thumbnail 💀
the emote literally is them being upset that they couldn't sell it for that much and trying to hurt the same people who scalped PS5's the past while forgetting that collectibles go up in price due to scarcity and your code is given physically. You dont sell the in game item, you sell the PHYSICAL ticket to get the in game item for PHYSICAL cash. Then the ticket becomes a virtual item when redeemed. Hes trying to hurt scalpers but isnt doing anything to hurt them and instead hurting everyone else.
Good thumbnail game
10/10 would click again
This is irrelevant for casual players. Casual players are friends directly I can just buy a present for a friend or give them a gift card. I don't see how this is a problem for casuals at all.
In reality it’s SE’s product/platform/service, their everything. If they wanted to, they could shut down all the servers everywhere and terminate the game.. obv they’re not going to do that, cause they like making money. And at the end of the day, that’s what it’s about.. we don’t see the in’s and outs of how this affects h them financially , so we just say “that’s fucked up”.. it’s easy to point SE out as the bad guys because they’re the known factor.. as opposed to demonizing the fuckboys that actually perpetrate and conduct these actions that result in this scenario..
The same logic behind blaming SE for this, would be similar to:
Store owner gets robbed, and internet blames store owner for pressing charges on perpetrator for robbing them; saying “that’s fucked up, who cares” .. when it was the person who stole or violated ‘the law’.. u know how dumb that sounds?
Imagine if u were running a business and someone ripping u off.. who cares right? Just let criminal idiots do whatever? Who cares.
The person who always say, "Mikote need Fantasia to become a.. Or something" is right now agony in pain. Nice.
"Create dumb ass problems and blame other people" yup that sums up the last 6 years.
Maybe im just stupid but i dont see anything wrong with what they are doing here. This issue is not even exclusive to SE/MogStation. This is just their way of preventing fraudulent activities. Theres nothing wrong with that.
Would they choose to get dinged by rhe credit card companies to keep those streamers happy with giveaways or just put a stop to most common fraudulent actions in existence by doing this?
microtransactions in games are a cancer, they cut a little cancer out, while not completely, its still a good thing in the big picture
Nope, SE currently very rich, they do not need anymore sales you see?
Btw agree with you those emote should be at mogsation and problem solve .
This being about CC processors is pretty true… but I also find it hilarious the number of people who say "this hurts SE", dude, how many of you are hoping for free gifts from streamers. Friends who are willing to buy a thing for you can ALSO give you a gift card, and many items are STILL purchasable amongst friends. Streamer giveaways are basically the only thing impacted.
Xeno – "Square Enix like to create these dumb ass problems and then buhfuckin blame other sources when its there fault"
Also Xeno – "So this is mostly based on fuckin stolen credit cards or something"
probably: SE cant track their sales or generated code,
stolen cards buy tons of codes and resell at cheaper rate in rmt site.
sour friendship or bait gil>cash transaction, then flag transaction.
oh no
anyway
I think decisions like these come from the higher ups and the dev team just has to do it. I don't think anyone at square that isn't in finance gives a shit about this. At least I hope so…
Lol that call-out on Echo Jeathebelle "there was this one poster who said character boosting is p2w, what a fucking idiot". Shots fired.
I have a funny story regarding payment about FFXIV: Once I noticed a rather large transaction going from my bank account and I was wondering for what/who that was and I contacted the side who was doing that transaction and they didn't reply, so I killed that transaction and I got the money back.. one day after Patch 4.3 My FFXIV Account was inaccessable because I refunded my sub… The People who handled that transaction didn't told me that it was going to SE or it was about FFXIV, so naturally I nuked that transaction because it looked weird to me.. what a rude awakening.. but since the Kaiten Removal the FFXIV Online Store is dead to me anyways, yes there are cool items to get from but why should I give them more money if they only ruin the gameplay I loved? + They could put all the mounts emotes and glamour into the Gold Saucer and only offer Fantasia and Name/Home World Changes in the Online Store.. but that would be cool so we can't have that.
Easier solution, don't save credit card info on square site? Square could just disallow that. Just input the info when you want to buy something.
I think we should just stop buying cash shop shit until it's reversed.
I get they are losing money off charge backs, but this is dumb as shit.
You shouldn't buy anything it should already be in the game hell 15 a month per person times over a millon people there rollin in it
I wont deny, I did buy a lot of fantasia from third party websites since its half the price that square enix charges just to fkin change your race which is already a scam in my opinion lol
Let's say the figure is 300. I feel like the emote is not a bonus but a part of that 300. Like a bundle of 200 figure and 100 emote. The emote should've been a bonus, that u still can buy on mogstation regardless whether you buy the figure or not.
In RP Community, sometimes venues will hold an event that give you a gift in a form of mogstation item ($50/$25/$10) or gil or even a sub. This update prevent these kind of thing to happened, cause you cant gift people mounts and emotes. Those things are not even RMT, just a pure charity
The mogstation can suck my nuts. Anything exclusive to mogstation should just be earnable IN THE GAME. I think that goes the same for the physical item emotes. Stop tying in-game content to outside purchases.
Never gifted or been gifted, so I don't know who this really effects other than streamer giveaways.
So many uninformed people crying about giveaways and not realizing the severity of the situation. It's like a bomb is on the highway about to blow up the whole city and they are complaining they will be late for work. Please understand that this is not just about SE's profits being hurt by chargebacks and RMT. They can legit get in deep trouble with payment processors. And for an MMO, that is a literal death of a game because if a payment processor drops you then you get no money. No subs, no mogstation, nothing. There will be no game to have giveaways for. If this is the sacrifice SE has to make because they were told to, they HAVE to do it. Or else there just isn't an FFXIV.
Nah,they often want 80Millions to 200 millions they can easy resell upto 75 $ for 80KK to /250/300 $ for 200KK, most take this alternative and 5$ is like 3/ 4 Mil so. problem is the ease of reselling gil.
