If you’re coming to FFXIV from ESO or WOW, there are a bunch of things you’re used to that could get you suspended in FFXIV. And yes, this is all obvious to people who read the code of conduct, but let’s be honest, most people don’t do that before they start playing.

The thing with m0dz is: talk about them ONLY with the people you trust. Plain out advertisement that you have mods is just… stupid. (Let's remember the billboard incident)
Also, with rule 6, I would also add 'Don't abuse power' (this is especially true for those who are mentors): Randomly kicking a person without advice or any explanations because you just 'felt it' might get you a report from the person who got kicked out. I've already witnessed 2 mentors losing their crowns because they thought it was funny.
All in all, I would say this is a very good advice video for those coming from other games that use mods and other stuff. ^^
Seriously, er’body needs to watch fight club. “We don’t talk about fight club!”
-Tyler D
Thank you for covering this topic! I think we all need reminders like these every once in a while. Sometimes It's easy to forget just how easily this game bans/suspends accounts for even the most minor things.
As a general rule, anything and everything that's said in public chat channels, like /shout, /yell, /say, /Novice Network , even duty chat, such as /alliance or /party, can potentially be reported as harassment if it rubs just one person the wrong way, as mentioned in the video. So if you have to use these channels of communications, try to stay on topic related to the duty itself and avoid getting personal with any players. If you're not sure about something you want to say, use /tell or /linkshell chat instead, as those are considered private conversation channels.
If you want to have full conversations that aren't related to the game (like talking about other games or interests), better take it to Discord, since SE can't directly monitor those chats, as they can any other line of text typed in-game.
As a side note, Discord server for this channel, when?
Well you can’t talk about it in game, there are party leaders out there who will definitely kick you from a group even before it begins if they check your logs and don’t like what they see. That toxicity definitely still happens, they’re just more subtle about it.
Nice vid!
I've played for a year now and been rude and called people out as well as being called out. 1000s of dungeons done. Never been banned. Just be careful but not paranoid
1 that wasn't mentioned, don't AFK or not killing mobs in a duty, it is against the TOS not participating, sadly see a lot of afkers or they press 1 button (auto clicker 3rd party) its rude and disrespectful. Yes running to the zone wall and wait for others killing the mobs and not doing anything also the same, I've lost count how many got a few days ban for these.
for the mods the main rule of tumb is if you do use them(you can still get banned) is dont talk about them dont harass others with them i myself only use one mod and that is bard player(lets me auto play bard songs for when i chill in my hub)
i've been called out multiple times for not healing well (beginner WHM) or doing enough damage (seriously?). i've even been kicked from pvp once for sitting down ingame and taking a quick sip from my waterbottle.. but i never bothered to report people since the report system is so time consuming, although i do understand why we need to make it detailed
A MMO without a DPS meter is bad. Have always, and will always use it.
honestly the rude rule is one of the worst ones, not only is it broad; but it also can result in you getting suspended for many different situations…
What if someone isn't doing well, isn't trying and is holding everyone back, no matter what in this situation saying anything "rude" could be ban-able and worse yet, if you're a newer person in the group, and that particular group doesn't like you? They could ban you simply by being passive aggressive.
I think having such rules can seem like it helps the community not be toxic, but toxicity is still there. There are toxic people flooding this community, it's just not as apparent since it's against the ToS.
Trust me. If this ONE rule wasn't on ToS we'd have one of the most impossible to breathe in communities, chats would be a million times worse.
Anyways STAY away from this game if you want a chill community… there's plenty of those out there but FFXIV isn't it my friend! There ARE ONE HUNDRED PERCENT plenty of chill players, but the vast majority are for the lack of a better word: indecent and again, passive aggressive.
the one rule with the insulting just reminded me of this one raid and i was a summoner and the one rando healer that wasn't in my set up party with my friends. and we were doing phoinix (pandamonium) and he told me that i should go to a ukrianian/russian prison and was so rude to me. i didn't think to report him, but i blacklisted him. but now that i think about it, its probably too late to report, considering it was still new content.
To the first one….The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club
Wont lie, I had a really bad week, came on final fantasy to try to get away from it for a little bit and ended up getting blamed by this guy for everything, in the end he rage quit because we had trouble beating the final boss, I stuck in there to get the guy who was doing the mission for the first time though and we got there in the end once I worked out how to kick the rage quiter(he dident leave the party when he quit), but to be honest, that was the end for me. Maby I'll play again the future, but for now im just sick of this kind of attitude, I wont lie and say my performance was top tier, I'm not that great, but I was and am open to suggestions and being told the best way to approach the fight not just being told I was stupid. Part of me wonders if this is the effect of having so many wow players join the game and importing their past behaviors, it was a first time to have such a bad experince.
"above the board"
Big issue with these rules at the end of the day is that they make people scared to call out bad playing habits. There are simple things you can do to instantly become 10x better at the game, that people won't tell you because they're afraid of repercussions. VERY simple things like "don't stand all the way in Africa during a boss because you won't get aoe heals or buffs and mechanics become harder to avoid".
Personally I risk it. If someone is playing wrong, I just tell them.
"hey healer, this is how my tank invulnerability works. Stop healing me during it."
Jobs in 14 are designed to be played 2 ways: correctly and incorrectly.
If you're not playing the way the job was designed to be played, you are playing incorrectly. Consequence of the way 14 does it's jobs.
The goal of getting better at combat in 14 is to play "more-correcter".
The closer you are playing the job to the way it's intended, the better. No one is perfect though.
Just want to say its perfectly fine to use mods, and I'd even encourage people to get A.C.T (the damage parser) so that you can see if what youre doing is generally correct, and improve how you play the game. The only way you'd feasibly get banned through a parser is if you use it as a tool to disparage another player, so that just comes under the banner of 'dont be a bellend'. Fortunately, the majority of content in this game is pretty damn easy, so toxicity in general is pretty low in my experience when it comes to dungeons and story content. If you do come across a terrible player, just use discord or something to rant to a mate about it like I do. Have a laugh about how bad a person is without risking a ban or ruining the person in question's day. Leave the toxicity to the savage/ultimate party finders, theres plenty in there.
But yeah, dont be afraid to get a DPS tracker. Just dont use it to insult other players.
You can get a read of you party members' dps by looking at their aggro number on the party. A = has the current target's aggro, 1-8 is each member's aggro placement. For example is the tank dies, whoever was #1 will get the aggro and change to A.
It's only a broad read since tanks and healers and even dps that can heal will generare extra aggro on top of their damage.
Its the only way to tell who is contributing the most to the dps, without any mods.
Useful for stuff like choosing the optimal dance partner.
Do not use this information to harass anyone tho, even if your melee dps is dealing less dmg than your healer, well what can you do. Maybe politely tell them to get appropiate tomestone gear? But better not risk it.
A common misconception is that you cannot tell other players anything at all related to their playstyle, or you'll get banned for harassment. This is straight up wrong, you can point out issues and even suggest corrections if you can assess that they are objectively playing the game wrong. What you must never do is belittle or harass a player for their mistakes/inability. For example, you can tell the sprout BLM that he isn't supposed to just spam Ice spells and that he needs to be using Fire ones to pull his weight, what you MUST NOT do is harass the player if he ignores you or continues to play incorrectly ("Lethargic behavior", an offense according to the rules as described in the Prohibited Activities article).
honestly as someone who played wow for 10 years and just came to ff I didn't know this stuff, probably saved me a temporary suspension lol
I turn off player chat and communicate only through emotes. When the party stops and I know they're trying to talk to me I just shrug.
1:30 if you are savage taiding in pf and someone has super low dps just kick them without saying anything and if they ask why say they failed too many mechanics.
