Paladin is not your book reading holier than though bitch boy/girl you know from WoW. Paladins are knights with a moderate specialty in white mage (where as Dark Knights are the same but with black magic instead). They are viscous with a sword. They take little damage and with the power of white magic, they are invincible. Free to selflessly protect others in a storm of blood.
Also they're the only tank who can chain stun.
5:10 Yes. However, unlike WoW, you do not have attacks that buff your healing power. Like WoW, in party content, the healers' DPS is not required (Doom Train is the only exception). This doesn't mean, don't attack, like some baby's first raider will surely @ me for spouting complete and utter non sense and lies about how this works.
Unlike WoW, you are also not required to heal every waking moment of the fight, leaving much room for fixing mistakes or fighting. They are not pitifully weak. They are the easiest, least challenged, most accessible role in the game.
This is Final Fantasy. Of course you don't know so let me spell out what that means.
THIS IS FINAL FANTASY. The White Mage is dives in to club monsters with their staff and spam Holy. If you aren't spamming holy, then you're doing it wrong. Also if we got two battle healers.
6:40 Dark Knight is a warrior of justice who'll go to great lengths to protect others by slaughtering their enemies no matter the sacrifice. It's about controlling the risk. Otherwise you're just self destructing like a moron. They have the best defenses in the game, being the only tank to able to consistently negate mechanics outright on themselves or someone else. So much to the point, until Dawntrail, other tanks got buffed to have something Dark Knight already has. Being a knight with a moderate specialty in black magic, obviously they lack healing spells. The only healing spell they do have is drain, a life stealing spell. So against huge waves of enemies, you'll be healing up good. Also they're the only tank who can summon a friend to help.
Reapers are assassins and monster hunters who fight alongside a voidsent. It's about family…………Like every black magic job (Dark Knight, Ninja, Scholar, Black Mage and Reaper)
"How is this even fair?" regarding Summoner:
We look really pretty and hit with all the fury and force of a kitten's soft paw. That's how it's fair! screams internally
Just very happy to see a new player getting so excited about the new skills and moves. It's going to take you a while to get there, but I am sure you'll enjoy the whole way!
As a now 6 year vet player, BLM being able to move leylines is MASSIVE
But watching it with the perspective of a new player, SMN calling in literal GODS is cool as fuck, and SGE looking all techy and advanced is also very appealing
yes, Bard does pretty much have atleast always 1 party damage buff up, as they are tied to your own job mechanics.
the buff it is depends on which song is played (the jobgauge changes colour n which lyre is displayed according to it), those buffs also last as long as the phase of your rotation, which is 45 sec.
other than that you get a party buff at 50 and 90, a few usefull things like "shield/take a debuff off" at 45 a party damage reduction (every physical ranged has those) and a skill that increases healing.
bard was pretty fun before DT and iirc it mostly got QoL changes, but i cannot tell you more as i cant play for quite a while
As of right now, scholar is the only true pet class rn, so you'd have to play a healer
Once you hit level 30, ANY class can be a pet class. Once you have your Chocobo, head to Bentbranch Meadows in the Central Shroud, and do the "My Feisty Chocobo" quest. That'll allow you to summon your chocobo buddy for 30 minutes and spec them out as either a tank, healer or DPS autonomous pet. (Tank is not recommended).
That'll give you the autonomous combat buddy you might be wanting.

Viper takes inspiration from Kirito/SAO not zoro/one piece. YoshiP even said its inspired by Kirito and that fast blitz of a finisher you saw was essentially Starburst stream
The pet class is probably going to be Beastmaster, but limited jobs are kind of a whole separate thing from the rest of the game.
Before its rework, Summoner was more like an Affliction Warlock.
Scholar is my favorite healer, but just about every xpac, they do it dirty.
If you're after the job crystals irl, a lot of artists sell their own unofficial versions of them, like on etsy, etc.
Honestly the amount of content farming and pauses were so god damn annoying
they made gunbreaker look so chill lol, playing it is completely opposite
Genuinely, some of the gameplay of certain classes could be improved for me, like summoner is a bit braindead, but not a SINGLE class in this game misses with the animations, they all have a very specific fantasy and fill it SO WELL. You can't go wrong! Also, unlike wow, the best dps class's top dps vs. The worst dps class's top dps will only be about 5-10% in difference– you can clear any content playing ANY class! No meta needed!
Oh you talked about summoner being the pet class! Funny enough, it used to play a lot like an affliction warlock that had to place and manage its summons like pets! They used to even have health bars and could be commanded to soak towers and do mechanics! They took it out because it was INSANELY hard and also a bit broken that its pet could do some certain mechanics, but, as I said in my other comment, they went too far in the other direction and made it too easy.

They do sell job stone magnets, I currently have Gunbreaker and Reaper magnets, though they can sometimes be hard to come by, as demand is high for some jobs, each one is $5.50
