New Player Guide to Final Fantasy 14 Online (FFXIV)

This is a very broad guide explaining the majority of the features in Final Fantasy 14. This is mostly focused on people who haven’t played the game yet and are thinking about playing it. Since there are a variety of people, some who don’t play MMOs, some who’ve played over MMOs before, and some who have dabbled with FF14 before, multiple approaches are required. If you feel a part of the video isn’t for you, please do skip using the timestamps below.

Some features will be covered in more detail than others and this is intentional. Features not discussed in this video are Gunbreaker, Dancer, Sage, or any Endwalker content.

Since the initial recording of this video, Adventuring and Gathering Foreys have been renamed to Field Deployments.

  1. I wasn’t expecting ff14 tutorial from you. Maybe I shouldn’t since you have knowledge on mmos like wow. I’ll definitely enjoy watching the whole way through! Maybe it will even convince me to try it out!

  2. 40 minutes in and you’ve done nothing but show me that character creation is basic and like every other RPG all but with its own style. The only other thing I saw was how insane it is just to set up all these key, binds, etc. and how I can be playing a game instead of wasting my time doing all that crap holy moly…. I get it makes you better and have a fun time be more efficient etc. but why doesn’t the game come with some mini tutorial to be getting it tells you that it’s so weird that you can change just about any setting? That’s kind of bad on the games part. Especially if you want someone new to enjoy your game and they hadn’t seen your video or how in depth the menu options were.

  3. I have hated the very idea of a final fantasy game since part 4, expecially 10 and 11. But 12 was actually a game I liked. Does that mean I could… play this game…and like it?

  4. On gear updates: There is actually a button in the character screen that updates the current gear set without having to go into the gear set menu. Its the Circle arrows to the top right of the menu, below the reputation tab.

  5. I will say, I find real reborn to just be veeeeeeeery long. I do wish to get more invested, however, after a real reborn I encourage people to take a healthy break and then return for a satisfying and great experience. Also take your time. Take this from a sprout 🌱 who went to lvl 50 and reeeeealy wanted dark knight from the trial.
