  1. I’ve been playing since 2020 and I was around when the billboard was still being talked about on Twitter and with my friends over Discord and it was HILARIOUS. Seeing the videos and screenshots of all the people there gives me major fomo and makes me wish I went. I’m glad the people who ran the venue were able to take the situation in stride and end up joking about it at the end of the day, that’s what I love about this community.

  2. Hi, I'm three years deep into this game. c: I hope you're enjoying the game and wanted to provide my perspective on the billboard drama haha.

Honestly, I feel like this drama was the catalyst for a growing portion of the community to start calling the game a "Second Life" clone. It really showed how little care the community had for keeping modding under the radar on top of how little the devs care about stopping modding as a whole. Now, I can't go a week without someone saying the game is turning into Second Life and honestly I can't really blame them anymore.

It's honestly really sad too because a couple of years back we used to have a lot more non-ERP/club venues that were amazing to sit in and listen to people play music and just relax. Once Covid hit, the club scene really exploded (understandably so since people couldn't go out anymore) and people realized they could profit off the community in a much deeper way than they could through non-club venues. It really shifted into a "sex sells" mentality and charging gil for fake drink items in game (keep in mind, they used to be free). Now, all you'll see when looking through advertisements are clubs or brothels.

In Shadowbringers we used to have Bozja as a way to naturally encounter and do content with other people. Since we didn't get a new zone in Endwalker…it feels like unless you ERP or are interested in clubbing, you won't really meet many people or be put into that same situation that we had in Bozja.

The 14 community really took RP and ran with it in a really gross way that turned me off venues as a whole. RP is meant to be an experience share between people for the joy of writing and engaging with people, not as a way to make a quick buck or effectively turn a growing portion of the community into internet sex workers. The RP community itself has also grown extraordinarily toxic by slowly turning into high school bullies and shaming people who don't engage in the same activities & modding as they do. I have more stories about it but this post is already really long so I can provide more information in comments if anyone is curious.

  3. I'd never actually gotten the full story behind this so I'm not gonna lie, this is pretty hilarious!

I genuinely respect SE for being so cool about NSFW player-run content. Zenimax went ballistic every time something remotely sexual was mentioned in Elder Scrolls Online, and PSO2's problem was less 'no content allowed' and more 'actively encouraging NSFW outfits and behaviour in public' which was. NOT AT ALL FUN. I lost a lot of respect for SEGA during my time in that game.
