After tanking throughout most of Endwalker and covering them here on this channel for almost the past year, I’ve decided to quit tanking in FFXIV at least for the rest of Endwalker. There are a few reasons why, including raid and job design, and others. I definitely still enjoy tanking, but not enough to continue main tanking right now.

Removing aggro management and job interplay to help the tank remain on top of the aggro list was a huge mistake.
Dungeons alone are a testament to that.
I haven't tried tanking yet because tanking makes me nervous. But, i really enjoy your thoughts on it love the humor bits that you put in while still being informative
Have you tried Criterion yet? Tank main as well, and just figuring out the first trash room in Mount Rokkon was such a breath of fresh air as a tank. I had to kite groups, bait aoes to create space for my party while avoiding a patrolling mob, think about my CDs, it was just super refreshing.
I've been struggling to find a main role/job in 14 for a while and i seem to have settled with tanking granted i've not finished EW and only done 1 EX in my entire time of playing i still feel it engaging, maybe because i'm nervous when i tank cause i don't wanna fuck up especially when i did that one EX ( it was on accident i didn't know it was an EX in duty it didn't say EX or anything ) that kept me VERY engaged and it was honestly the most fun i had playing 14. Maybe further down the line when i'm used to it ill encounter the same problem as you do but for now i'm enjoying it without it be too overwhelming as some of other DPS roles rotation and mechanics.
Great video btw
I'm done with tanking for FF14 too, well just done with the game entirely until Jan 2024 when part 6.5 comes out. Much needed hiatus 💀
I agree to you about tanking in eso I myself normally run dps or healer in mmos but eso tanking is a nightmare at times
I tank and I really enjoyed Sophia Unreal. Old fight and design but was cool to have a boss fight with adds to manage.
I really hope that the homogenization of tanks and healers gets addressed in 7.0 it can kinda make both roles lose their fun if you play them to much
I realized recently that the reason I was losing interest in the game and was putting off starting the savage tier was because I was burnt out on tanking. Once you get used to the novelty of the boss hitting you, you're basically just a less interesting melee. I switched to playing BLM and started progging Anabaseios and it's like I am playing a whole new game.
I main my paladin but i love it ,my issue is healer playing dps .
