  1. Dont be scared of raiding. Im not saying its easy, but atleast the normals are forgiving. Unless you count the ARR one where you join with Alphinaud and Alisaie, that raid was made before they created the Savage/normal system. but if you do it with a lvl 90 they can carry you through all the fights on normal. That way you can atleast see the story, which i recommend as the story adds alot of info and context which will help you understand stuff in comming expansions. 🙂
(The raids stories are never NEEDED to understand whats going on, but when you encounter something in the MSQ you can be like "Oh, thats like what happened in that raid in the previous expansion!" and that is very enjoyable)

  2. Impressive: you guessed all mechanics correctly. Meteor and Ancient Flare are usually the mechanics where new players die 😀 Btw., Meteor and Behemoth always go hand in hand, so whenever you meet a mob that looks like Behemoth, be prepared that it most likely will summon a meteor ontop of your head 😀

  3. Cause for Raid being strangely segmented is pretty simple – raids are released with patches, for Alliance that would – X.1, X.3, X.5 patches so there is generally around half a year between each Alliance Raid in series.
There are three Alliance raids in each expansion (excluding current content – right now we only have Aglaia in 6.X series Alliance raid – second one, Euphrosyne is coming in patch 6.3 in early January, right after New Year.

And yeah, I am hyped to see Coild of Bahamut – did them so long ago, I barely remember the story there aside of most important beats.

  4. first boss – Bone Dragon, the tank needs to position it in the back of the room on the second small square platform while the dps sits in the middle circle platform to kill the skeletons. you focus down the skeletons because when the dragon 'dies' it lets out a pulsing roomwide AOE that is more powerful with more skeletons alive. this can still kill you with an unprepared healer. you do two waves of this then on the third wave you can safely just focus down the dragon for its final death.

second boss – Thanatos, only one group can damage him at a time, it goes in order A -> B -> C, with group A being the first one to attack the boss on the pull. after some time, B is then selected (shown by the wavey line tethers and your character going transparent) and eventually C if the fight goes on long enough. If you are not on boss, you are on the adds that spawn.

third boss – King Behemoth, essentially kill adds and when King chooses like 3 people who have meteor icons over their head. These players need to position themselves around the outer ring of the arena to drop meteors you will need to hide behind when King summons a large meteor. make sure theres space behind you when you drop the smaller meteors. never drop in the bosses hitbox, this negates the meteors effect making it useless. you need to also focus down the Iron Giants first as their cleave attacks can destroy the safety meteors.

final boss – Phlegethon, this is pretty much a tank and spank with a few hand adds that grab one party member which you need to kill to free them. at 50% and 25% health, he goes to the center of the arena if he isnt there still, and casts a roomwide instant kill AOE, all the groups need to run to their designated button (A on the west, B on the south, C on the east) on the edges of the platform to raise a protective barrier. You will wipe if its not raised in time. An iron giant add spawns on the first shield and an iron giant/claw will spawn on the second shield. Just dps them down to drop shield and resume attack on boss.

  5. 100% DO NOT watch the Heavensward trailer until after Heavensward starts (i.e. wait for the credits to roll again). It spoils a huge event in the final patch.

Edit: It's fun to see Crystal Tower being run by someone not yet jaded by running it 40,000 times in daily Alliance Roulette 😅

  6. You've met best boy, G'raha Tia! And you remembered! For Miqo'te, you do pronounce the name with the tribal letter (G'raha, Y'shtola, Y'mhitra). People who are very close friends of them will typically refer to them without the tribal letter attached.

The eye condition is called Heterochromia, and FFXIV has an option to create characters with this trait!

About Alliance Raids: if you hadn't noticed, almost every boss in this raid had some team mechanic involved. This is normal for every Alliance Raid you'll take part in. Sometimes they won't be obvious and you'll die, which is ok. Something that FFXIV is really well known for is making sure sprouts get info enough to at least survive a fight, and when those sprouts master the raid, they pass it on to the next. So you'll occasionally see call outs in chat, or markers on the ground to help indicate where to go/what to do. Absolutely don't be afraid to die or do something wrong, someone will usually try to point you in the right direction! Also keep in mind that raids will progressively get harder, because your gear (and your alliance's gear) will usually be above what is required, so fights will go faster. Hitting raids at level usually take a lot of time! So keep that in mind as you go through expansions. Lastly: there are always 3 major Alliance Raids per expansion, and 12 major "Raids" per expansion. Coils being the exception with 13.

Lastly gear: Need anything you get the option to need for, and greed everything else. Gear like this can be turned into your grand company for seals, which can be used to buy things like emotes, material, and even barding. Another reason to grab the gear would be so that you have gear for an alternative class, as well!

Psst… you also wouldn't know it's Nero because you never saw him with his helmet off! 😉

  7. I see that you're having some trouble keeping track of what's going on during the raid. I have two pieces of advice that might be of use to you:

    1. The Alliance tab can be moved and re-sized just like anything else in your HUD can. To this day, I have no earthly idea why FFXIV always puts things dead center in the screen like that. You'll be doing this a lot with every job you unlock.

    2. Battle effects. In your character settings, you have three options for three categories: Yourself, Party Members, and NPCs or those not in your Party. The default setting for all three options is to Show All. if you want to change these options, you can choose to change it to Show Limited or to Show None which removes all Battle Effects except for Limit Breaks.
