  1. That was a 'Duty'. It's a solo instance (I suppose sort of like a mini dungeon!) just for you. A 'dungeon' will be like what you're more familiar with from WoW. You'll have a loading screen and generally get teamed up with a few other players (although nowadays you can use 'Duty Support' and play with a team of NPC's for a lot of the early game!)

  2. Those Hall of the Novice are something in mentioned in a comment on the last video. They are a series of training missions that give you basic knowledge of mechanics for combat with a group (things you can use in your upcoming dungeon!) There are missions for each class 'role' (Healer, tank, dps)

  3. Nice episode 🙂

Btw when you see mobs with a yellow squiggly sign over their heads, those are part of your hunt logs. Completing them yields you a lot of xp. Just another (optional) source of xp 🙂
Do recommend doing the smiths training. Will teach you some of the basic mechanics of the game. As well as some gear and xp ring when completed.
Finally if you put your cursor over your abilities it will pop up information as to what each ability does (probably already knew that 🙂 ). For instance your number 2 is a proc ability which is why it is not always available. Using your other abilities will make it active. Use it when it shines.
    Good luck on your adventures!!

  4. Grats on your first dungeon~! They do start off very much with training wheels, but the difficulty progression raises at a very steady and comprehensive level. Good luck, future Warrior of Light!

  5. yup as others have said, not a dungeon. Those Hall of the Novice training challenges are good to do though! You get a nice set of level 15 armor and a ring that gives +30% EXP while under level 30! Go for it 😀

  6. Enjoying your journey through FF XIV; thank you for sharing your journey.

If you check your chat log, it has multiple tabs. The tab labelled "Event" will have the text that you missed.

The game will slowly introduce to its systems and mechanics.

    * Instanced single player content. As others have mentioned, these are story related instance where you have to complete a task. As you noticed, it will sync you down to the maximum level for the instance. (Some are voiced, most are not)

As you play through the Main Scenario Quest, the game will show you what to do.

    * Hall of the Novice is now accessible as you have spoken to the NPC. You can do these as you are now at lvl 15+. Completing the instanced exercises will grant you a set of "Brand New" Armor (body, hands, legs, feet) and a "Brand New Ring" that will give you +30% exp up to and including level 30.

Now that you have access to the Inn (speak to the Innkeep), you can log off from your Inn room by clicking on the bed. Each major city has an inn which you can access by talking to the Innkeeper at the Adventurers Guild. You have access to various features like retainers (touch the summoning bell – you won't have access to retainers until you have progressed to certain point in MSQ), glamour dresser, armoire, and aesthetician ( change appearance; touch the crystal bell, unlock through quest after 1st dungeon)

The Inn also has other features, feel free to click on them to see what they are. The Unending Journey is a record of what you have done; the Orchestrion lets you play songs from the game using orchestrion rolls (purchased with game currency; also dungeon drops and craft able as well)

  7. Not all the cutscenes are voiced… Particularly in ARR. Also, if you miss something an NPC says and it's not in the General chat, if you look on the Event chat log, you can usually find it. (Area voiced intros being the biggest exception to this.)

  8. A couple of things about the hotbars… you can add more to you layout if you want.. The default is 2, but you can have up to 10. By default, 1, 2, and 3 depend on your class while the others are "shared". That means if you change to a different class (like botanist), the ones on the shared hotbars won't change, but the ones on the class ones (1, 2, and 3) WILL change, giving you the skills for that class… so if you put things like Limit Break or emotes, they'll disappear. (I like putting LB on one of the shared ones so I can use it on any class and don't have to use a spot on my class specific bar for it). It might not seem like you need it now, but as you go further into the game, having more can be useful.

Ultimately, though… do whatever works for you!

  9. Another amazing video, Cozy! It's been like 3 years sense I've been where you are now in the game, so it feels nice to see all this again. Keep up the amazing work! (Still trying to find you in-game at the same time I am, so I can give you the gift I promised you)

  10. I had so many videos to catch up on, how exciting! Look how far you've made it!

I think I see where one of the confusions has come from:
    – The Solo Duty you did was in a dungeon – a place that people who have commited crimes might be locked up.
    – A dungeon in terms of the game is something that takes place with a party of 4 (including you!). Others have explained when you'll run into your first one.
This makes perfect sense that you might feel confused, but they'll make it very clear when you get into your first dungeon. You'll get a bunch of new tutorial information to let you know what's going on. ❤❤

I'm so glad your army of minions has been growing! Lil Cozy deserves all the cute companions for her journey!
