I fear ffxiv is suffering from enshittification. The entire DT experience stinks of corporate greed.
Before watching and finding out if this video is serious or satire: dawntrail is the beginning of a new story, so it should be compared to arr, not endwalker, the culmination of ten years of story. People dont like change, but people also don't like things staying the same. It is what it is.
Edit: oh, the video was serious while trying to joke, and it did insist on comparing dawntrail to endwalker. Bummer.

"Rehashed budget emet selch" YES! God i hate her so much, the entire part is such an obvious amaurot emet selch rip off it's pissing me off. What a way to take one of the best parts in ffxiv story and drag it through the mud.
One thing they can learn from throne and liberty is quest variation. That MMO has a lot of problems, but one thing I do appreciate is during the MSQ and sidequests you do more than just: go here, talk to this person/kill x amount of enemies.
I played in Japanese, and even then, some lines were insufferable (namely the Shaaloani residents). I was tempted to just turn off voice audio.
Something tugging at me to play Skyrim again…can't quite put my finger on it.

The whole story would have been better if we got to help Wuk Lamat in the EW post-patch instead of Zero. Then the story could have focused on that throne and solution 9 instead of Wuk getting to know us and vice-versa.
I am saying this as a Lamati lover. I like her character, she is my little sister. But they could have done her better.
I like Wuk Lamat as a person. It felt good when she said she considers me family. But how Square Enix made her be a part of almost every quest and cutscene while still saying the same dialog over and over and over again about peace and understanding and happiness should be studied. She is the most one-note character that could have her entire existence and dialog condensed into one sentence and you'll know everything she said in the expansion. She genuinely would have been a better character if she were mute or became mute after that one sentence and just let her actions do the talking. In fact, that would have been badass.
Another plot point that made no sense to me… SPOILER!
The knight that was given a back story for why he was a robot, his care for the royal family, his actual reason for being, and they made him sacrifice himself to save "Sphene" one of thousands… Like, he could have just not. Sphene would have just move to another body (which she did almost as soon as the battle concluded). There was nothing on the line there. My guy literally sacrifices himself for nothing. NOTHING! It's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I'm not even saying that the character was even all that great. It was just a waste. So dumb was the writing that it made me just stop playing for two days. It was that stupid to me. I was thinking, "I've been giving this story too many chances to get better. If this is what the last few MSQ are going to be like, I don't even want to continue!" I only finished after my FC leader asked me to for the sake of helping with raids. No joke.

Great video – I still enjoy the game doing savage and ultimate raids but this is the first time in the entire game I was just fed up of MSQ. I'm not even sure I can articulate why, something just felt off to me.
For those idiots that think all criticisms against Wuk Lamat is because of the trans VA: Wuk Lamat sucks in every language available. Is a badly written character.
Also I agree that it has been feeling like the devs are not putting too much effort into the game for a long while.
Watching the discourse over Dawntrail has been entertaining. I'm an omnicrafter, so there's no such thing as running out of content for me ever, but I do have friends who rely heavily on the MSQ for their enjoyment of this game.
Their reception has been mixed. Some absolutely loathe Dawntrail like the plague, and others genuinely loved it (I even have a friend who says its his new favorite expansion). On my end, I gave the MSQ a 6 or 7/10. I didn't hate everything about it, and I loved Living Memory. In fact, if they had let us travel with Koana for the 2nd half the way you did with Wuk Lamat in the 1st half it might have been a 10 for me. There was too much Lamatyi to the detriment of other characters. I felt like the writers missed some key shots along the way.
Everything else about Dawntrail has been a joy for me. I love the crafting lore of Tural. The dungeons? It's like they saw everything they did wrong in Endwalker and did the exact opposite. They're interesting, fun, and not a chore to farm for my tomes. The Arcadion? Chef's kiss. It's my favorite first tier in the entire game (here's hoping they stick the landing with the other two).
I look at it like this this is the start of book 2 basically and with the start of e very new story it takes some time to get going. was I really invested in her race to the dawthrone no could I see where the story was going ya but after we were done helping lamitey I do think it did get better.

Swap out Thancred and Uri with two new characters that are like Auron (native to Tuli) and Ject (Student friend of Cat boi), (something!).
I still feel like the Scions got a lot to watch over or research in Eorzea. Also we need a break from them!
I ended up quitting after Endwalker's first patch. Been playing since 1.0 and suddenly things just felt strange to me. Characters didn't quite behave consistent to their character (and no, not in a 'character growth' way like some smart aleck might try and use as an excuse for poor writing,) and overall things just seemed wrong. It hit me I wasn't playing the same game anymore, and the game I'd fallen in love with was no longer here. The gameplay didn't do it anymore, and the story just left me more confused than anything, not to mention the retcons sprinkled around for good measure.
I haven't gone back since, and from all I hear of Dawntrail, I'm glad none of my friends managed to convince me to come back, because good lord everything I hear from it sounds just awful to me.
I wish they didn't pick newbie writers who only did like 1 porn game before 14. 😞
I think the whole "only 2 dungeons a patch" is pretty awful. Especially if you're going to time lock tomes on top of it. There's so little content to actually get the newest tomes that the grind is painful, made only worse by the time gating.
Where are the hard mode rehashes like we used to get? Where's The Twinning (Hard)? Two new dungeons and a hard mode redo wouldn't be a silver bullet to the problem but dang a third dungeon would help with the monotony.

Agree.. first time I wasn't excited to rerun the story on my alt, my poor alt is still sitting in Sharlyan, and she'll probably never leave because I can't bear the torture of going through that story again. I hope they can fix it, but boy do they have their work cut out for them. I actually did like the graphics update, but I guess I didn't really want a full overhaul so /shrug. But heck even ARR had moments I was able to get on board with, despite having it's own (and many) issues, but it had SOME substance and continuity.. Dawntrail is the WORST out of them all. And most of the defenders really do come up with the lamest defenses that have nothing to do with the actual complaints.
That Smile music was great.
But it wasn't earned.
What pissed me off the most is I was promised a competition with the scions, the best we got was that one scene in the first dungeon where you were inconvenienced and snarked at, from then on it was a huge nothing burger. In the cat village we should have been forced to team up with Bakool or Zoraal and eliminate Koana, we should have had a boss battle at some point with Thancred and Urianger, we should have had to directly compete with Koana at some point in time rather then this tepid he is just kinda there doing his own thing.
never knew I needed an ASMR video on their gripes with Dawntrail and me agreeing with them, still dont know if I do. But I love your type of videos LuLu and yeah, DT is failed potential on what it couldve been, and I barely get on to do anything like roulettes and just mainly do weekly reclears. i was fed up with wuk lamat before the halfway point and being stuck with her for like 98% of it didnt help her case. By the time i got to the unlost world I was been done and wanting it to end so I can experience raiding current content for the first time.

Scions have the ultimate plot armour. Three expansions and counting with no casualties whatsoever.
You know it's bad though when a WoW expansion has better world building and story than FF14. SE need to switch train tracks fast. Quite frankly, I don't want to play 14 for another 10 years as I'd rather play FF17 as a new MMO.
I got to the first zone and was already amused. How are people that have lived in an area for 30+ years not going to know the magic within their own home town. You have got to be kidding me.

Ill be honest dawntrail made me stop playing ff14 and try wow again. I mean im not really even playing wow much either and im really only playing wow classic but still. Played through dawntrail and hated it. I was excited for dawntrail and preordered and when i finally got to play it… yikes…
Hot take: Dawntrail is just fine. There are bad things and good things.
DT sucks ass… no lvl 100 content aside from 3 boring dungeons that don't drop gear (rings and sht don't count) 1 ex trail and 4 boss fights, that are boss on a floating nothing platform for the 200s time, it's getting very cheap they are so stuck on the Formula i think I'm quitting
