  1. You nailed it. There was something bothering me in the back of my mind about why and when my drive to play the game started to dip. The moment you brought up your arguments about the relic grind it clicked. Thank you for pointing this out and I hope the devs take note of your feedback! I want a reason to log in!

  2. I'm gonna counter your point here… I think Stormblood is when the relic died. And I'll say it for this reason: you mention how the relic in the first two expansions had players populating content that might have otherwise been overlooked. Stormblood didn't do this. You were actively pulled away from other content to, basically, grind fates the entire expansion in Eureka. There was no real option to advance your weapon by doing other content, so it could be said to have actually pulled players out of things they might have otherwise done.

I think while delayed too far, Shadowbringers started to fix this a little by allowing players to advance their weapons in Bozja, but also giving other options, making it so that players who didn't enjoy exploratory zones weren't corralled into just that content (though I will say I don't think they should have forced you into it at all if you didn't enjoy it…)

Also Stormblood was actually when the relic started getting delayed. Eureka wasn't ready when they had hoped it would be and so the relic in that expansion didn't launch until patch 4.25, which seems to have set the precedent for every following expansion… and I'm with you. It's dumb. They really should have launched the relic this upcoming patch or possibly even in the 7.05 patch. It's really strange that they wait until the expansion is half way over to even let you start it…. (also I really think they should follow the Heavensward model of having you do lots of varied content to advance the weapon… but I think they're probably going to force us into cosmic explorations or whatever the exploratory content is instead)

  4. My favorite relic grind was HW. Lots of different things to do, not just grind FATEs or Tomestones and you have multiple methods of completing tasks. I liked Eureka when it came out but Pagos burned me out so much I went through Pyros but didn't put a feet in Hydatos when I saw the last stage of relic being the same glow for everyone and when I saw Bozja was the just Eureka with a different skin, I didn't even try. EW relic grind is a joke (and don't even start me with the fact that clearly the last skin should have been for the actual raids) and it's only use is dumping tomestones. I really hope the next relic will help keep me engage with the game…

  5. Yoshi-P said during his Pax Aus 'an evening with' streamed talk that the next field content would be coming in 7.2, so it'll probably be relic grind starting then like Eureka was.

  6. Relic grind should be from the start of the patch cicles, specially now that that the patches take longer than ever.
A restoration would be cool, and the excuse of garlemend not being ready while the city is controled by the faction thats allied to us is bs (and also alamigo is still in need of restoration)
i like the game, i just want some relaxing content to do for a time and feel that i have a reason to login and pay every month.
if only the island sanctuary had propper coop and decoration instead of being a bad homestead system even compared to old f2p games 🙁

  7. I can say, after doing all teh relic grinds, that EW relic grind was teh perfect relic for an end. It was the end, so it was fitting that the relic allowed you to keep time for other things you wouldn't have time for. During EW I not only got old relics, but I also tried deep dungeons, did criterion, tried old content achevements… I ran down my list of want-to-do's. And llet's be honest, the EW relic is the lamest visually speaking. All teh same type, the same shine. There is no personality to them.

  8. I couldn't agree more. I just last week finished my last Endwalker relic, and I wasn't even happy, just a feeling of "well, that's finished now".

Just going to Radz every 1500 Poetics (or the uncapped tomes back in EW) was just so… boring… you didn't even actively work on the relic, you just did other stuff and the relics just automatically roll in over time…

  9. Woa, Pazuzu was up!

I'm the target audience that you discuss here. Endwalker was very sparse for what I was looking for, I'll refrain from commenting on Dawntrail.
There are two simple changes that SE can – and should – make that would get me almost infinitely engaged again:
    – Introduce New Job+ to level a job from scratch again, with the option to pause that level process to return to its max level to do, say, raids. The tech is there in New Game+. I just like leveling, but now I need to create an alt every time I want to re-do that process. That's far too massive an investment. A New Job+ system would be evergreen content, too.
    – Remove extreme content from mentor roulette. I can't even use it because I don't enjoy extremes. I can do them just fine in terms of skill, but I just don't like doing them. If I can queue up to help newcomers do duties they've been stuck on for 30-60 minutes, then I'd spam the heck out of mentor roulette. Right now it's just wasting UI space for me…

  10. This was my one complaint about endwalker.

We had two issues: relic was just tomes, and no one cared about the variant dungeons even though they were universally agreed to be awesome.

How the hell were variant dungeons, the content we got instead of a Eureka type area, NOT involved in some way with getting relics?

  11. I get the Point to the relic Weapons. But as someone who is not daily in Final Fantasy it was good to have a Relic Weapon without much grinding and ignoring every other Game/Friend.
But to be honest doing all the Hildibrand Quest felt like a Grind if you started them just for the Weapons. But i can see that it was a little bit underwhelming if you got everything ready to just get the Weapons.

  12. I liked bozja a lil more than eureka. It let me grind relics and levels for my jobs and it was a lil more forgiving. The fates and themes just felt more engaging for me. But i def prefer the eureka and bozja style more than the grind fates for a drop, so im excited for more news on it

  13. Larry! Yes! I'm so grateful for this video.. You've literally voiced everything that had been bumming me lately (that and general 14 burnout), especially after seeing latest letter w the producer. In 7.1 most fun and new content you get is all hardcore – new ultimate and chaotic raids. For everyone else there's msq, hildi(?), one dungeon and one alliance raid 🙁 I felt kinda sad about it because like you I love this game a lot!

Relics are my favorite content in the game (I love the grind, when you work on the weapon it makes you feel proud), I'm currently working on Eureka and it's so much fun! 🙂 I hope they can improve this content and make it engaging again. I would also love to see more challenging solo content that you can just log in and do (so DD is not an option, it's too long sadly).

I hope in 8.0 we're getting long-term pve grind content early, preferably with 8.1.

Thanks again for making this video, you literally lifted my mood, cheers!

  14. i remember people were saying "well you still have to do roulettes for the tomes so technically endwalker relic make you do content" and at that momebt i gave up on this game. the players literally accept anything and refute any criticism of the game's lack of content for the bare minimum and i just cannot take it anymore.

  15. Even then, the chaotic alliance raid is not drop until christmas eve

The cycle just getting longer and longer and they really think all of 7.1 is good enough for most playerbases until april.

  16. Youre expecting too much from small indie dev like Square Enix

To ask Yoshi P and his small team of 3 people to give players enough things to do to justify this game having a 15 dollar a month subscription fee is just far too much to ask of them.

  17. Relic Grinding isn't content, it's just grinding. EW was perfect, just get the tomes at your own pace, no pressure, and you can start building for harder content without worrying about your weapon.

Compare that to the HW relics for example thst are a pain in the ass to do.

  18. even raid players (err like me) doesn't raid 24 hours, we only raids like 2-3 hours per day and we need something to do tooooo, relic really gives motivations to online, cuz now I basically just reclears and offline

  19. For what it's worth I didn't finish any Relic until shadowbringers. I think Bozja took what was good about the concept of Eureka and perfected it for somebody who is a self-professed mid-core player. There was loads of content to do and there was a lot of little rewards along the way, and it took time and definitely some skill particularly with stuff like DR. My ideal Relic scenario is that they repeat what they had in that expansion but release it with the regularity of older expansions. I did eventually go back and finish the Eureka Relic although I never gotten to Baldacci and Arsenal because it was late and Walker and frankly I'm not that good at the content LOL. I can absolutely see what people enjoyed about it. It took me a while and I really did enjoy the content trains in Eureka but I think for a mid-core approached shadowbringers in terms of the makeup was probably the best we got. Just release it more regularly and address some of the end game gripes.

  20. Unpopular opinion maybe, but as a midcore solo player…while I do miss having things to grind for and reasons for playing, for the first time in 4 years I'm at a point where I've pretty much done everything I wanted to do and I'm actually ready to play some other games. I'll still do dailies, new patch etc, because I love FFXIV, it's basically my home, but if I'm being honest not being consumed by it feels quite refreshing.

  21. As a advocate for relic weapons, I think treasure dungeons and hunts are good midcore content. I would love more relic content, but I'm okay with where it's at now. Gives me time to grind past relics anyway

  22. Relic grinding was something I did with my friend when we were going through ARR and Heavensward and knowing it eventually turns into a pay with tomestones kinda makes me sad. I totally lost my mind doing the grind but it was fun.

  23. the relic grind weas turned into a tomestone grind in endwalker because enough players complained about the relic grind being too hard/time consuming. it was to make sure everyone would be able to have the time to do it.

  24. As much as I loved Eureka and hated Bozja, I think the best relic grind was Shadowbringers.

    Why?
You had the main route that they intended (Via Bozja stuff) but then you hjad the alternate route (fates, 60 and 70 dungeons, LoA series, PotD/HoH, etc)

With the exception of some things like fates and the 60 dungeons which, when done right are super fast and easier than their Bozja counterparts, Bozja offered a more secure and quicker method of these same steps. This made it so you weren't locked to Bozja to complete your relic but you and friends can enjoy older content as well at a 'slower' pace.

  25. I know this is a hot take among XIV players but the book step in ARR is thee best designed relic step. Every other relic step we go online and look up the optimal instance to run until our eyes bleed out, but the books asked you to run all kinds of different content but only once each. The issue with books was you had to run like 90 different pieces of content included specified fates and leves which weren't always up so you had to wait and hope they showed up. I think if it was like 5 books rather than 9, and the leves and fates were do x amount in this zone no one would complain about the books

  26. On one hand the game could use more midcore content. On the other hand the one-time 120 drops grind nearly killed bozja for me and I haven't even unlocked eureka yet after 2 years of playing and having completed both anabaseos and light-weight heavy raid tiers so hmm yeah hmm.

  27. As much as i hope they tie relics into the new instance zones, and this is an unpopular opinion, the one thing i hope they don't add is some variation of Logos/Lost actions, this is because i just do not like having to farm those items so that i can farm the content i actually want to do.

  28. I was never in need of the newest Relic weapons, since it was only by Dawntrail that I ever truly made it to current patch, aaaaaaaaaaand I hate Hildibrand with a burning passion, so Mandervillious weapons weren't happening before that in Endwalker.

Please spare me from having to deal with him again to get Ultros & Typhon's blue magic. He has no brain.

  29. i was a shb baby and during that time bc of covid i spent a disgusting amount of time grinding relics so it became my favorite content in the game. i was hyped to see what ew relics had to bring and i was hella disappointed. i think its important for 14 to have this content in the game bc the journey is what makes it feel rewarding and also areas like bozja and eureka make the game feel like a classic MMO where you see people in the world interacting with one another working towards a common goal rather than be a hub-based game. i just hope for the best in the future and wish we got the content sooner

  30. I'd like them to add the grind with options, like bicolors, maybe a way to use island sanctuary…Or even mgp, make it that leap of fate is a great way to get the items

  31. yeah, honestly, with the now standard 4 month patch cycle, i feel like starting the relics in .1 would help a bit with givng a lot of us a more concrete goal to work towards beyond fighting drop RNG for EX mounts
