"Tried for a few hours" sadly is something that doesn't work for FFXIV, you have to commit until 5.0 then you will have fun. That is very unfortunate.
Everything about the EXTENSIVE FF14 soundtrack is beautiful. From newer tracks to tracks recreated from older games (Forged in Crimson, for example) are breathtaking and so shockingly amazing. I've been listening to FF music for decades and FF14 is a culmination of so much stuff, its a delight for the FF fanatic.
And here I am watching this while waiting for the release of the ffxiv new expansion Dawntrail. Only 15min left to open the servers <3 Thanks for sharing, I love this song.
I first know you from your cover on Ragnarok songs, my most favorite game during my childhood, and now I see you again reacting to my favorite game in my adulthood too…

Honestly just picking a few ff14 songs is hard, as every expo and patch all bring some insanely good songs. Limiting myself to just three, Fiend, Rise and Forged in Crimson, with FoC being a totally remake of ff4 boss fight music for Rubicante. Plus they all are very different styles of music to show just how crazy Soken is when it comes to music, he just go ham.

the Violin part from Shadowbringers is "Eternal Wind" from FFIII is the "overworld" theme or the main theme of that series, made by Uematsu back in the day.

The thing that is worth knowing about Soken's skills is that he is basically the equivalent to a polyglot of music.The man has written some of the best musical pieces in gaming history in more genres than i think anyone in history. There's composers who have a specific style that they can make better music than Soken in, but very few of them can match his ability to compose music in as many genres as Soken and even fewer, if any, can compose at the same quality in as wide of a spectrum as Soken.
Not that FFXIV is one of the best game OSTs of all time, but its story is EASILY my favorite story in all of fiction. (Specifically Shadowbringers & Endwalker expansions) And that's coming from someone who grew up on FFVII and it was my favorite game prior to FFXIV. If you ever find time in life, I suggest you give it a try. FFXIV's story literally changed my life. It's the story I cried to the most, and I'm not someone who cries easily. lol
i highly recommend you to listen soundtracks from Hunt: Showdown! Really nice music
14 is very much a Final Fantasy game so there's a lot of story. Much to it's detriment almost the first 50 hours is spent building up the story and introducing characters. There are amazing pay offs later, but that long of a build up isn't for everyone.
