Has a weapon yet is somehow less useful in combat than Tartarru
Ugh, how i wish they did something with her character other than the leader behind the chair giving out orders and getting kidnapped.
I don't love Minfillia but the side stories do her so much justice
i gotta read those side stories. i really never liked minfilia (in no small part due to her ARR voice acting) and it drastically reduced her impact on me in HW and ShB
I mean to be fair having a weapon does not equate to battle prowless and experience, minfillia has a weapon to defend herself but her ending up being the damsel in occasions can tell you that she's not experienced, in other words she could be low leveled. HOWEVER shadowbringers lore states that she spent decades slaying sin eaters, either as herself or her reincarnations. She's not somebody useless anymore and I kinda wish that now that Hydaelynn is gone, she no longer has minfillia as a host and her cycle of reincarnation has ended, I hope she'd make a return as a competitent leader of the scions in future arcs since there's there's now lore of her no longer in the princess peach treatment.
Here's hoping I get to at least see a shardself of hers that does the character more justice. if Estinien, Gaius and G'raha – to say nothing of Messiah Y'shtola the Undying- can be brought back against all odds, it felt like a terrible excuse to me that Hydaelin did not give her back to us in SHB/EW but instead guided her soul to rest in the Source. It makes me resent Venat, even. That Argo looks like Minfilia is even more offensive. The fans seemingly don't miss her much – even less than Papalymo, Moenbryda, or Ysayle- so the writers saw fit to get rid of her (and have Krile stand in with the echo) via Ryne, but even in SHB she could have been the DNC postergirl alongside Thancred's GNB and either be brought back or have a more meaningful farewell, having had a last adventure with us. It seems she metonymizes all the ARR baggage they want to do away with, like a dead weight or useless relic. :^(
Outside of ffxiv, the other form of media was in FFBE where she had a unit that was support but can at least attack.
Can I get some context on the situation where she thought Thancred betrayed her trust? Like how bad are we talking here, like did she think he just told someone a secret she didn't want anyone to know or was it like she thought he totally betrayed her and thereby probably the scions and he needed to be taken care of as soon as possible? One doesn't contemplate pulling a knife on someone for nothing unless their mental faculties are at least partially compromised.
That’s why I loved Ryne. Shows Thancred did more than show how to sheathe a weapon.
John Cena Manderville through a hole in the wall: ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT???
But how could she use the myrhril dagger in her miner job? 😂
Mini-filia uses the daggers better
Minfilia is the best example of " TELL NOT SHOW"
People need to understand something about characters. Just because we do not see an epic scene of a character slicing and dicing enemies doesn't mean they are a helpess little thing. Minfilia's "combat scenarios" we see are: being ambushed in her office by Nabriales, getting ambushed by Livia and a bataillon of Garlean troops in her headquarters, and getting jumped by Elidibus in her office (again).
You have to consider that firstly, she is just not a fighter, and it's an okay thing. Her being taught how to defend herself by Thancred does not translate to being a warrior. Sometimes, you have to remember that the average person in Eorzea does not have martial skills like that. I bet she can do fine against your typical thief or bandit, but she is also the Antecedent of the Scions. She would have escorts and bodyguards, like how the Grand Companies' leaders do.
Secondly, why is it a problem that she is mainly shown to be an administrator and coordinator of operations? Having the Echo does not translate to having martial skills, especially not to the level where she should feel any type of confidence drawing a weapon on Ascians or Garleans officers or even regular troops.
Thirdly, remember that the WoL being a god-tier warrior, adventurer, crafter, AND gatherer is an anomaly. Most people in Eorzea barely have more than one of those skills, and even when they are in that trade, they are unremarkable at it. By all accounts, Minfilia was a talented miner (and administrator/coordinator). Maybe it would have been cool to see her demonstrate her skills by going on a small quest where she looks for a particular gemstone for F'lhamin? I mean, I would like that personally, but how many people would really care? Maybe show a scene of her fending off some bandits on one of her trips?
Not against the idea by the way, I would have been dully on-board with the writers exploring more of those different aspects of characters with the Echo. Maybe she feels bad about sending us against primals everytime they pop and decide to play a more active role in combating the threat? Maybe they could have done something like that by leaving the administration and leadership of the Scions to Alphinaud? Maybe if everyone came back in HW she could have been drawn to be able to defend herself more and protect others in a more concrete manner? Then we could have a regular party of Echo users in the Scions, with the WoL, Krile, Arenvald, and Minfilia?
Again, I would be on-board with something like that, but as things are, I think it is very reductive and unfair to dismiss Minfilia as a character just because she is not a warrior.
Holding a weapon does not mean having skill in using it. Many people have held daggers/etc as self defence items in the past but that doesn't mean they're able to fight with them.
Princess Peach treatment??
My boy, Peach has been fighting since the second game (USA)
i still wish we'd have seen her fight
she died too early:(
This is a good format for bits of lore too small for a full video.
Minfilia has so much presence in the story that I don't think she can be an exception to "show don't tell". If we are to know that she could actually fight then we should see it like we do with far smaller characters. Additionally, you haven't made any points about her using the dagger. You stated that she's only thought about using it, which also does not back up that claim that the dagger is not just for show.
Thank Red Waters!
