Regarding housing, one of the things Pint alluded to is that once you already have a house, you can skip the 24 hour random timer to buy a house if you give up your old house.
Fortunately changes are coming to housing with the next expansion. I think they're going for a lottery system but from what I remember they're leaving themselves some room to experiment. Hopefully will be improved a lot though!
