Manderville Relic Weapon CONTROVERSY! [FFXIV 6.2]

Endwalker is getting a brand new relic weapon line series based around the most ridiculous questline in ALL of Final Fantasy XIV, the Hildibrand Manderville Questline. This has caused the community for better and worse to basically lose their minds.

Let’s discuss this with as balanced and nuanced approach respecting both sides of the argument.

  1. I always find it weird that people obsess over something, that hasnt even happened yet… Like… guys, relax. Godbert happens to an artisan; him making relic weapons is, "shockingly", perfectly logical.

  2. I played through the ARR Manderville questline, and it was dumb and lame. I skipped the rest. Don't care about relics either, as I'm just gonna be flexing my DSR weapon anyways.

  3. Geez, man. Way to power through. Get some nice soup and some hot tea and get in bed. Good content, though. I personally love the Mandeville quests and story. Yeah, the humor is a bit…. over-the-top, but I think it’s a nice comic relief counterpoint to some of the wrenching MSQ. That said, I’ve not been big on relic weapon hunting myself. I can appreciate the grind to get just one. I’m not sure what the weapons will look like, but I’m sure they won’t be stupid. Anyways, take care and get better.

  4. If the people who don't like that spent half the time they spent bitching on forums and twitter on the HIldy quest line, it would be over yet and it would be a non issue. Also…I like how people say they dont want it to be a humor based storyline….Dude. Have you ever done the ARR and HW quests or you just skipped the cutscene? ARR in particular is just a huge spoof. People were like "We were doing the Legendary weapons of heroes or old"…as if they forgot Gerolt and Jalzadahn were acting like 2 massive idiots and it was hilarious. Gerolt is the legendary blacksmith and Godbert is the legendary goldsmith (and Saint of Nymeia and huge philanthropist and I cannot wait for him to shut down Rowena's greed) so you know…I think those weapons are in good hands. And people are scared about the look…On that I'd argue the last final step of the relics that looked good were in Heavensward. Eureka were super generic and, save a few exception, the Resistance wpns were straight up ugly. I don't think it can get worse tbh. Also for those who say the bozja questline was great…remember, you could do that relic and not do the storyline at all and just mindlessly farm old content and if you did it that way, it was the most boring relic questline in the entire game because literally nothing was happening. It was just get me X of that item and bring them back, Ok good, next step. In fact Im pretty sure the majority of people who finished those never even set foot in bozja (because let's also remember that a LOT of people hated exploration content and that is the exact reason why they let people make those relics outside of bozja as opposed to Eureka which btw has the lower rate of completion for any relic in the entire game) and I believe that's why they dropped exploration content, because for the amount of work that goes into those areas on a development perspective vs player attendance…let's call it what it was: A failure. They tried to make bozja more appealing by making it a leveling zone, and it still wasn't quite enough to get a lot of people into it. It's not even close to an Ultimate fight in terms of work and they have about the same kind of participation so I kinda understand them going "yeah not worth the effort, let's do island sanctuary instead".

Also, my dude, get some rest. Ain't no one here wanting you straining yourself when you aren't feeling well

  6. I thought it was weird that people would hate this for being a requirement even though bosja did the same thing with the Ivalice raid. though i was hoping for another Bosja style relic grind and am a little disappointed, I do have a hope that the Manderville weapon will tye into the manderville gold saucer and maybe give us more minigames and a battle arena.

  7. Hope you feel better soon! The relic requirement doesn't bother me at all. Unless, that is, these relics are the joke weapons they showed in the community weapon design post a couple of months ago. I think that's what a lot of people are concerned about and I agree. If we get shark hands for monks and forks and spoons for Ninjas, I won't even bother.

Quest wise though it's no worse than anything in the past and some of us have been unable to even gain access to Zadnor, let alone continue a relic so bring on Hildibrand. Bozja was, for me, one of the most unenjoyable things I have done in the game so it can not be worse.

For the record, I have done about 25 minutes of the Hildibrand line so I have the whole hill to climb and I am fine with it.

  8. The Grand Prize winner weapons are the ones that will likely be relic weapons.

So we may start with silly weapons from Godbert himself, then progress to more inline signature relic weapons the questlines are known for.

  9. YOU TAKE SOME HONEY AND WARM TEA AND REST YOUNG MAN!!! Thank you for the details and thoughts but please don’t lose your voice and hurt your throat okay ;-;?

And my thoughts on the hildibrand combo? I like them! Godbert is both a renowned goldsmith and actually important to Ala Mhigo and Uldah but he’s mostly kept to the hildy quests for his character development while his grand achievements are kept in line in the main quests.

They’re not gonna be joke weapons as none of them have been before and I’m eagerly awaiting Godberts beautiful designs.

Anyways, Cole please take a break or your voice will give out 🙁 love your stuff, take care!

  10. Get well soon! I don't really get the controversy, every relic has a questline we have to do. I just did my first Anima weapon finally and did not like that storyline but I was there for the weapon and skipping is a thing. Not liking Hikdinrand isn't really different than not liking whatever questline we'd be getting in the first place, and it makes sense they went with something light hearted to follow Endwalker. Honestly, for relics people need to be concerned about the grind requirements, as long as we don't need to run Crystal Tower a million times again or have it tied to something unavailable in duty finder again, the complaints are kinda overblown IMO. We always have to do stuff we don't like, I don't like Eureka, but if I want the relic I gotta suck it up because that's kinda the point. It may not be as compelling on paper as Bozja but I have faith they know what we expect from a relic, especially after the Bosja weapon backlash.

  11. I think there is a greater reason for why they chose manderville. many of the mechanics of the trials presented at the end of the expansion's series for the hildibrand are actually copy and pasted onto savage mechanic the with slightly tweaked d tells which include debuffs. the mechanics are the same.

    Here's an example:
Post adds E8s you have chicken tornados and spinning snorting Fungah
Greg's tank healer chains… that mechanic, after playing that trial for many years, and I discoverd there is always 1 person has potential to die from the shackles with a LOT OF GOOD DPS but can potentially survive in time it can take to kill all 4 shackles. which player do you want to sacrifice to not ensure a wipe and survive to the next phase? I'll give you a hint. E8s Light Rampant….
