The Ascians have been a staple of FFXIV since 1.0 and their eventual reintroduction in ARR. Since then, we have met many of the Ascians and seen the cryptic sigils that appear over their faces. But what do these brands mean? And where did they come from? Here, we explore those questions!

It could be a form of memory. Gaia may have projected a glyph because Loghrif's memories were coming back. It may not have been the Gaia we knew that caused it. As all successive holders of a convocation seat would have had the same seal, it would need to be something external. Possible the result of the process of induction into the convocation.
Venat, as a former Azem, had no sigil present so it is entirely possible that it can be removed.
Also, I noticed Lahabrea's subtitle. "The Speaker". I guess we know who activated Azem's crystal and got the Milala off of the source during the 5th calamity…
Just saw this video randomly pop up and really enjoyed it. Thanks for making it.
Yeah! That the glyph that appeared on (full black) masked mages fought early on in the game is the most interesting one design wise as it's not based on a Convocation seat one as far as we know of (for now, theories pending) nor similar to anything from ff12 either, much like the others are. So it makes it interesting to notice, because it stands out when compared to the others that we know so far.
(And it looks like an eyeball to me lol)
Maybe monkee unga bunga brain talking but all I heard is ulimta the high seraphim is asking to catch dee hands
This is a really well made video, by someone who has extensive knowledge of the whole FF series. It's so nice to see something refreshing like this! Awesome video!
@13:27 What are you talking about in most cases jobs are lore relevant in the expansion they come out in not the next. Only time I can think about this happening (sort of) was dancer in shadowbringers then in dawntrail we go to their homeland thavnair.
Many videos and comments I see online state “there are only two – five Ascians remaining”. I believe that may not be the case. Eleven Convocation members (if you include Azem) were sundered. That means there are still multiple shards of the same ancient souls in existence at the same time on the Source and the surviving reflections. Is there a hard and fast rule that only one soul could be functioning in a seat at a time among the Ascians? There could be other incarnations of the sundered we have already faced still alive on the reflections or even their Source-born self.
I would be interested in seeing how they adapted to the loss of not only their taskmasters in the Unsundered but Zodiark himself. Are there still those who participated in causing the rejoinings and how are they processing the responsibilities they bear for ending whole worlds under the delusion it was for a greater good. Are they trying to make reparations, slip quietly into the background, etc.
I have come to many similar conclusions during my research into Ascians and the Ancients as part of founding the New Convocation of Fourteen rp fellowship on my data center.
One glyph you omitted, however is that of the 14th seat, albeit we have only seen it in the form it would have appeared as if it existed in Final Fantasy 12: Azem's full glyph appears as part of the summoning circles that appear whenever we use Azem's crystal.
I love this! Thanks so much for the video
