I feel the same way. Didn't really like Dragoon in ShB, but have been enjoying it in EW
yeah i hadn't bothered with DRG in a long time but it seems pretty solid now. might have to give it another chance
DRG feels even more like DRG than before and it still has the flow it had in ShB, just with everything lining up (and more punishing if you drift which will prove the better player or better knowledge of the fight)
I love just about every job in EW
Ngl I struggled to level it, along with ninja imo they are such boring melee compared to the monk, Sam and reaper
I'm glad to hear DRG seems good, it was ok for me in ShB but felt kinda off somehow, like the kit was missing something. Glad ro see I might have something to look forward to when I get to level it after I finish leveling NIN.
I feel like, generally, people don't give enough credit to how hard dragoon is as a job. When people talk about the hard jobs in the game, people forget to mention how supremely busy dragoon can be
DRG for me in EW is a blast !! Definitely my prefered DPS job ! Gameplay wise, Aesthetics everything is S+ for me !
I think this is the most enjoyable iteration of the job that they've made. Only thing that seems a little weird to me is why they didn't just make a trait that turns true thrust and doom spike into raiden thrust and draconian fury respectively, because as it stands rn, true thrust is only pressed once at the beginning of a fight and then it stays raiden thrust for the rest of the fight, barring any 30+ second downtime. Not a big problem but just a weird interaction on a job that is generally free of weird interactions like other jobs.
leveled drg since i had maiming gear for rpr and figured i might as well, now it’s my favorite melee
Might have to give dragoon a shot again. I'm maining monk atm and loving it
The hardest melee DPS with the lowest throughput besides Ninja. How Reaper is allowed to even be 400 DPS ahead or even be on the same DPS throughput after balance patch is beyond me. DRG is sitting at 5% melee DPS representation alongside ninja in the top 50 for each Asphodelos savage.
That's my problem with DRG in EW. Everything said in video is true, the changes were nice and the job is fun to play. However, right now Is a busy job quite low in dps that have to hit 5 positional for the full rotation and is quite punitive for messing a combo (lose a lot of potency and misalign everything). For raiding, reaper is obvious choice, insane dps for less effort compared to DRG IMHO. I just wish DRG was compensated better for the effort.
Another good video. But bro I need that song name from the outro😂
Making a crossbar for my controller that made sense was always a challenge. Add to casual investment always confused me when my burst window was as everything outside the opener drifted apart, and I hated my ShB leveling experience for DRG.
Here’s to EW DRG leveling. If everything lines up more naturally, maybe I’ll like it more. I already coincidentally figured out a crossbar that works for me.
hello I know this is a bit irrelevant, but I noticed you weren't really sweating to get positionals are they a big dps loss or not something too important?
I think the one thing that disappointed me with Dragoon this expansion is that somehow, in the expansion that introduced GCD Gapclosers (Raiju, Ifrit Punch, Primal Rend), we didn't get a GCD Jump on Dragoon. Somehow the class known for spending whole actions jumping for big damage didn't get an especially powerful, visceral gapcloser. I know the last thing this class needs is more animation lock, but goddammit, Stardiver as a 1000 potency GCD instead of a big awkward clippy weave would feel so SATISFYING, am I wrong for thinking that?
the job that should be highest dps
Absolutely HATE the rose blossom petals…not fire, not dragon scales, not dragon claws, or even debris flying…all make since for a dragoon…rose blossom petals. A cool effect for NIN or SAM but why DRG???
Other then that, the damage is way off for the amount of work the rotation takes
I started raiding in 5.2 and I’ve been a dragoon main the whole time. Honestly, I love it, and I love the changes. Something I initially thought was, I wish there was a way to enter LotD in the opener, but then I thought twice and thought that might not be necessary, and it feels nice now. It just seems like many other jobs get their big burst at the start, and that’s technically true for DRG, too, just not in the form of LotD. Anyway, the thing I actually wanted to say in this comment is that playing a job that gets memed on a lot is great – it’s like rooting for the underdog baseball team, and performing super well with it (I.e. players like Soviet Hammer, Inuchiya Maeda, Fionna Beoulve, freaking Wesk Alber, just to name a few) is extremely satisfying. Seriously, when all those people who just “play the meta” out there get out-performed by the dragoon (and yes, it does happen)….. Yeah, we can bring the big damage, too!
To me the only thing really missing from Dragoon right now is a high potency attack. Not just because it's low on damage compared to Reaper and other non-Ninja melees, but just because I want to see big numbers sometimes and a 500 potency Stardiver is not satisfying. I really hope that whatever buffs they intend to give Dragoon next patch are all just put into Stardiver. Make it 700 potency and they probably don't need to change much else on the class to balance it.
A bit confused by your life of the dragon explanation. So are DRG delaying life every time, are they just delaying on the opener or do they not have to delay at all anymore?
