Let People Play FFXIV The Way They Want

I felt like the discussion around job boosting and story skipping had many people missing the point, so I tried to explain my thoughts on the matter and why certain defenses (e.g. Vocal Minority) aren’t meaningful in the long run.

  1. Most of these are salty players that suck at the game , any player thats good at this game (raiding wise) wont care about if you know who the fuck Minfilia is etc. Play the game how you want too. Yes FFXIV is a story driven game but that does not have to be the reason you play the game, there is a reason like Oryza said that job boost exists. I always laugh when I read these snowflake comments trying to gatekeep endgame as if anyone was stopping you from doing the same. NO! YOU MUST GO THROUGH THE STORY BECAUSE I DID. xD these are the same player that talk about how much variety there is in this game and so much freedom to do what you want then the next line they want everyone to play the exact same way. Havnt watched the video yet so I am sorry for that but i watched the last vod and it was basically similar.

  2. Who cares if people skip, the problem is, when you skip and say the story is shit cause you skipped. I skipped the story and I'm still having a blast in ffxiv.

  3. This has been a lot of fun watching Max's team to prog through the end game content. One thing I am hoping is that this will help elevate the world first races so we get more viewership and hopefully sponsors for the world first races. Watching the TEA race was amazing and eye opening on how teams do this live.

  4. Really glad you uploaded this. The people complaining about boosting is frustrating but I really agree that the more frustrating this is when a third party tries to dismiss the frustration that the interaction causes. "vocal minority" got really overused and poorly at that for this situation. Lots of good takes in this video.

  5. The only problem I have with players who boost is when they struggle, they are so prepared to be harassed that they respond to any attempt to help with flames and griefing. The amount of raids (and pvp duties too lately) that end with a boosted player griefing is also unacceptable, because they don't want to learn the basics of avoiding aoes or what a stack marker is. This is also a vocal minority, and why many feel justified to be quick to lose patience with boosted players. In the end it's just that in any gaming community there's going to be an overabundance of idiots with no interpersonal skills.

  6. take all of the people that are actively part of the community on social channels like discord, reddit, twitch and twitter and I dont think its really all that much of a minority. if you take the playerbase as a whole, sure, maybe its a minority but most people arent on twitter talking to others about the game.

  7. If you're just there to play through the raids with some friends and unsub until the next raid tier drops, go ahead and boost.
I think it's pretty cut and dry.
Though you should know FF14 really doesn't have a lot of current endgame content, most of the content is structured differently from WoW and spread more evenly throughout the levels. You will likely get bored of the game really fast after you clear everything.
As long as you're aware of that then that should be it. Boost or not I don't give a shit, it's your experience not mine.

  8. Boosters are whiny fucking scrubs that flame you the moment you ask them why they keep dying to a simple aoe. Hate boosters so much; I swear roulette's have been unplayable lately because of these fucking people. Got my last combat class to 80 recently so never touching that hell hole again until EW, but still.

  9. So I'm an idiot for thinking boosting is bad in a story based mmo where the story is 70% of the content even though I dont go out any harass anyone about it? I keep my opinion to myself and I dont care how others have fun in the game, but I remember when the Fété events came out people constantly argued who's the best character in the story while having fun doing the event, being engaged and all. If these people are the community, these mythic raiders will never be part of it, because they have no idea what people are enthusiastic about. There is a normal intended way to play this game, as the devs intended the players to play. I didn't call anyone names but if you think that I'm an idiot for thinking a certain way you can F##K off 🙂

  10. I leveled SAM during stormblood, did dungeons, trials, raids, and sucked. I leveled SAM during SB and sucked just as much, I finally installed ACT and got so much better and to this day I see people with good gear being absolute trash. You boosting or not boosting doesn't make you a good or a bad player, being a bad player makes you a bad player. Thinking that you are hot shit makes you obnoxious! I will always say that using ACT can and most likely Will make you a better player, I know people who've played for years who complain about ACT, but at the same time, they deal 10k DPS as a black mage with 520 gear. You playing through the entire game, story and all, doesn't make you a good player.

  11. If people want to boost, let them boost. If people want to do crafting/gathering all day, let them do so. If people just want to enjoy the story, let them enjoy the story. I don't get the reasoning for people being upset that people are investing money into this game to help it grow and increase it's reach to other players. We should be happy that a game we enjoy and put time into is getting a spike of attention.

    Just don't be a Quin.

  12. Meanwhile people are harassed for enjoying the lore and it has become okay to support this kind of behaviour and make fun of those who just like stories. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
