(LEGACY) How to catch Namitaro in FFXIVđŸŒ±

A short guide for catching Namitaro (and Giant Takitaro) in FFXIV, used in the Feast of Famine quest.

Getting Intuition:
Namitaro is one of the six fish needed for the Feast and Famine quest which gives the “
 of Dragons Deep” title. To catch Namitaro you need to catch a Giant Takitaro, which will apply the Fisher’s Intuition buff needed for Namitaro. Start off by using Glowworm and casting into Urth’s Gift and surface slapping whatever non !!! bite you catch. After that, Giant Takitaro is a straight catch, so use chum and let any non !!! bites go to save time. If you get a !!! bite, hook it as normal. This will give you the Fisher’s Intuition buff for Namitaro.

During Intuition:
Once intuition is applied, immediately swap to a Topwater Frog lure, use chum and cast out. Namitaro is an EXTREMELY common !!! bite. If you get a !!! bite, hook it. It will likely get away, continue to chum and cast as much as you can during the 1 minute intuition. After intuition drops off, swap back to Glowworm and recatch Giant Takitaro using the previous process. If during intuition you happen to get a non !!! bite, catch it, slap it, and continue to chum as much as you can.

If you’re using Patience for either of these fish, they both require Powerful Hookset to catch. Good luck and happy fishing!

đŸŒ±FFXIV Free Trial Fishers:
Since you can’t use Surface Slap, don’t worry about a slap-prep, just chum as much as you can. Use Hi-cordials too, to help you keep chumming.

  3. Caught this one JUST now…. I tried about 6 times to be in the right timeframe to catch it. I was standing in the exact same spot you are in the video, but no luck. Then I decided to be a bit in the back after the 4th time….and I finally got !!! after over 250 glowworms. I think the spot I decided to take was just for me a lucky spot haha. (both spots I was in was in urth's gift, so no mistakes)

    Last one to go, the Helicoprion! I tried 3 timeframes so far, still no luck getting !!!.

  7. Just caught mine after like, 3 days of trying! Thank for the guide it made things go waaaaay smoother! A bit of advice for anyone else trying, if you can try to surface slap the boxing pleco, thats the most common fish in the pool, which means the Gaint Takitaro has slightly more chance to bite compared to slapping the other fish.

  16. Is there a reason to use patience at all after the removal of HQ fish? Large fish only serves as mooch opportunity and since it is not needed here we can safely assume that patience is waste of GP?

  19. THIS GUIDE HELPED ME SO MUCH. I had no idea that you could preserve your Surface Slap by not catching the fish until you get the !!!m which saved a bunch of time and I finally caught Namitaro after catching Giant Takitaro for the first time! Thank you so much!
