I love all the jazz dungeons, going all the way back to the Great LIbrary, and all the way to the [redacted for spoilers] in Endwalker.
What you might want to know about the grand cosmos… if you look on the map it is ishgard. Look at the ghosts they summon in the instance. I like it because it shows what ishgard might have been without the dragons as they are aliens as is mentioned in HW. Remember, ishgard was beautiful and lush before bahamut.
The place isnt breaking down because she has familiars upkeeping it.
Paglth'an might be my favorite dungeon, the best spectacle, you get to fight alongside tiamat properly, close to the best music. In terms of the bosses lightning cat is cool but not super special, the add boss is great by far the best add boss in the game, and lunar bahamut is the best dungeon boss in the game in my opinion.
Art Deco + Jazz, equals Ascians(or Amaurotines, if you want).
Btw Kyle, you would love Cowboy Bebop…
Paglthan and Matoya’s Relict are both dungeons I would have enjoyed a lot more if I hadn’t had run them as much as I did, being the expert roulette when I hit max level and being there for a good while.
If you guys want some other content to react to that breaks down some of the motifs and references Soken throws in to some of the songs check out Alex Moukala's breakdowns he does a phenomenal job.
I hate the concept of ranking stuff myself, but I love hearing you guys break down your opinions. That and the fact you're willing to listen to each other when you disagree. Some streamers like to push their opinion through without compromise, and I find that really boring.
Idkkkk Anemnesis Anyder has such big pulls it makes me a happy tank.
The real take here is you cannot please everyone and taste is personal. I liked the reasoning behind your choices and I agree with most of it. It’s hard sometimes for me to judge some of these ‘cus some days I want to vibe with this or that music and some dungeons feel better with different jobs, so my preferences fluctuate.
It looks better than cosmos but I still despise Karazan. I wanted a dungeon not a labyrinth. Honestly one of the most frustrating gaming experiences of my life.
The leitmotif where Heroes' Gauntlet pops the HECK off is the Lakeland leitmotif! A slow version of it plays in the field of that area, but you'll recognize it much more clearly from Holminster Switch, particularly the dire sounding piano bit about a minute into the song. The reason it goes off so hard in Where All Roads Lead is to signify that that's where your Shadowbringers journey really began.
Yeah it really starts with Lunar Bahamut, but since Shadowbringers, Primals just aren't challenging enough for our Warrior anymore. We've gotten so powerful and so good at killing them that they're just not that dangerous to us anymore. Things that would have once been trials are now mere dungeon bosses.
I feel like we're missing a wall of trials, or is that just me?
I rate paglth'an higher for the glams tbh
sith is a Gaelic word and sounds like "she" the phantom itself, otherwise known as Leanan sidhe is from Irish folklore. She would often take human lovers and would inspire them to make great works at the cost of their vitality. There's a lot more to the legend this is just glossing the surface.
Have ya'll been to Copperbell Mines since the rework? It's no longer boring and actually introduces new tanks to tankbuster mechanics.
"It's time to talk about anamenesis anyder" "ok :)"
i dunno why that got me but i was not expecting the ok response lol
[edit] had to come back to say thank you for acknowledging coven as the best AHS season. That feels like a rare opinion but 100% agree lol.
Hell yes Wall time!!!!!
Agreed, Paglathan was kind of underwhelming for it was supposed to be. Akadaemia and even Gauntlet is more fun.
Look, I love Kingdom Rush. But I turn the music off, lol
Can't wait until you guys get to the Endwalker Dungeons. there is one in patch content which will be your favorite of all time.
As a band kid and a jazz junky, I wholly endorse the notion that jazz is basically musical nerdism.
I adore you two, lol, and pag is my fave dungeon of that post MSQ series.
I don't really disagree with the order of dungeons (except swapping Akadaemia Anyder below Paglth'an), but I personally would have put Akadaemia up into Epic…which kinda dilutes the impact of epic, but damn those dungeons were good.
I'm a little surprised you didn't bump up Mt. Gulg to Epic, since you seem to speak of it so highly. Either way, good list!
Always enjoyed these trips to the wall of dungeons and can't wait to see ya'll again at the endwalker ones!
I really loved the fantasy castle
Amaurot is my favorite dungeon ever. Good choice!
Adventure Land is the best land in Disney
Spy multiplied by Family!
Now… When's the wall of trials comin? XD
I am obviously a FFXIV lady now, but Karazhan was definitely better at the ghost ballroom, it's not even close. <3
Pagl'than and Qitana Ravel are my favorites, but I just really love things with a tribal vibe.
I would put Paglth'an should be in epic (although below The Twinning) and Matoya's Relict in banger. Fight me! The music in Paglth'an is amazing, the way that the trash waves work feels pretty distinct from most dungeons, the glam from there is amazing as well. The bosses are all great, the setpieces are amazing, the vibes in that part of the story are intense. It set the stage for Endwalker so well.
No, I have to hand it to ya, if Kharazan has ghosts duelling, it does indeed score a point over Grand Cosmos' ghost ballroom.
Paglth'an always feels like a cruel joke. The "OH SHIT! VOLUME UP!! Finally something heavy!!!" is so short lived that it feels like a bait and switch.
The wall to wall pulls in Anamnesis Anyder are some of the more fun out of all the dungeons.
"I love dudes" i am clipping that!
I agree with the takes. First 2 dungeons are weak but heros gauntlet is great
That part in Heroes' Gauntlet's theme Garrett is wondering about is Lakeland's day theme
Re: Lunar Bahamut power levels.
ARR Bahamut was powerful because it had fed on aether for thousands of years.
As I recall, the part of the Heroes Gauntlet music that Garrett doesn't recognize is from a previous dungeon… Holminster Switch.
