  1. I will admit I am one of the ppl that spammed gg after a loss in some instances. I have tone down the toxicity on my part. I do think they chat needs to be expanded maybe not text chat but some more commands would be nice.

  2. Yeah this is challenging… Coming from competitive StarCraft and Overwatch, this feels “normal” (not good, though).

The challenge is that Yoshida and team have worked really hard to build a somewhat sheltered environment, for better and worse. The culture of the game is constantly designed to avoid competition/conflict… but PvP is inherently competition and conflict.

Of course cheaters should be banned, and disruptive toxicity should be punished. But reinvigorated PvP will push the game outside of the “sheltered” position it’s been in for at least the last 2-3 years.

  3. I was never a PvP player before FFXIV. I had tried the genre before, but found it unpleasant and stressful. With FF14, it’s easier because there’s limited communication. I used to think that was a bad thing but now, I see it as a wise measure to avoid conflict and abusive behaviour. I’m amazed at how people can pursue random players, which they are unlikely to get teamed with twice in a row, with the purpose of being rude and disrespectful. Being a noob that I am is something of a strange advantage for me. I don’t notice other players names or their behaviour. I’m completely focused on my role and on supporting my party on reaching the objectives. The pros will likely say; you’re doing it wrong, that’s why you’re a noob! And my answer is, at least I’m having fun. 😁 I’m not worried, or frustrated. I’m still learning and advancing. I’m still getting my rewards. I’m sure my peace and quiet won’t last forever. But I’m not responsible for what people think, understand or perceive. When I’ve had enough, I’ll go fish. 🤣 Thank you for addressing this matter Brian. Hope you’ll have fun too! Stay safe. ❤️

  4. Its not bringing out the toxic side of FF14. Its more like its showing that any gamer can be susceptible to rage. In other we can get angry with things dont go right, who knew?

  5. These problems exist in all games not PVP games and most online games are pvp games. But you have this in Genshin Impact which it's an anime game with no pvp. Some people might complain about losing or problems with the system and some of the complains might be true, while some pro pvp players are happy to be aggressive and show their superiority to inferior peasants…or that's how they see themselves for some weird reason. The problem in my opinion has no relation to pvp, is people. But it is true that pay to win, open world pvp with no control and …..this? i don't know what this is but seems a new form of bad mechanic. There must be changes and the BOT thing, never seen something like this.

My position is PVP is good if it is optional, if you don't like it don't do it and there is no problem then. About the behavior of people, i think it is correct to control insults or personal attacks, maybe some temporal ban to people who does this. I don't like people who wants to force things on others or that is aggressive, on either side.

  6. Part of this might be from WoW players in FFXIV who probably pushed the pvp system, it's a guess but yeah would not be a surprise. I'm ok with purely PVE mmorpgs which can have these issues anyway in PVE rankings or comments like Genshin community, but PVP does improve MMORPGs and gives them a final touch, for me PVE is the essential part and PVP is a game improver specially end game, always optional. Seems weird this game has bots, there should be consequences for that or any sort of cheating.

  7. I really hate to go armchair developer here, but seeing abilities get buffed or nerfed by 25% to 50% after a week, maybe two, is very alarming. Hindsight is 20/20, but I really hope they do much more internal testing or launch casual modes a week or 2 before ranked modes from here on out.

  8. I’m usually really chill playing pve content but I know when I have been streaming live and doing CC it brings out a side of me that is all pissed off and cursing. Usually only after like a good 5 loss streak with people not actually trying that takes me all the way back to start of ranking up haha. I don’t spam chat or anything and when I get to a certain point I’ll just quit the pvp. It ain’t worth getting angry about it nor harassing people. But I can definitely tell it brings out a different side of me while gaming. I think everyone should take a break from time to time if you really start getting frustrated while playing pvp before you do something you regret 😀

  9. Toxicity is already there. Just visit the official forums. People criticizing everything about the game and attacking the devs and other players. And when called out they act like they're being attacked. Or that is just their opinion and that constructive feedback didn't work.

  10. I really wish Squeenix would crack down hard on botting, cheating and "helper" mods in competitive activities. It's not just in PvP: there was mass botting during the Ishgard reconstruction, and every ultimate world first race you find out 3 weeks later that people were using bullshit like packet sniffers, auto-markers and DBM-like mods instead of doing the boss as intended.

What's different now is that PvP became popular overnight and that puts the cheating issue in the face of a far greater amount of players than it ever has.

  11. The level at which people are talking past each other about this is a weird thing to behold. I don't think the devs realize what they concocted with this.

  12. My history with multiplayer is that no matter the game, you get the same thought process we all can get that's like "My experience is more important than yours", similar to those who are driving and cut someone off.

Considering this game mode has no actual text communication, its miles ahead of a lot of other games with it imo. I'm also very much a fan of no teams and premade groups, considering how matches are short and could cut off group bullying (although I anticipate they'll go ahead and apply it later) . A cooldown to ALL EMOTES in the mode, especially those that have sound effects associated with it (hell I'd be cool with that in PVE) If people continue to be toxic outside of that, that's an easier one to report, since it would have to be in a whisper/tell or something.

My take on the cheating as sad as it is for a mode like this? I think if people are going to cheat for something you can earn in game, you should just give out these prizes and loot more easily, regardless of skill. I also think that people will play because they want to get good, and get recognition. These folks should truly be the ones to get into a ranked mode that demands hardware checks, with exclusive prizes, not just in game loot. My thinking on it is, the fact that this mode is so popular is really a testament to how much life it brought to the community, being good basic fun. But as Chris said, the incentive in this mode is not really worth it (outside of cool glam or whatever), so if its really just to get in on potentially fomo rewards, turn off the fomo ,and make the rewards something you have to put in the extra work to earn. In the FGC, or any other esport, people will cheat, but the ones who really wanna put up the numbers and get the trophies and the glory will go hard to do it, and you can't cheat live without anybody knowing

  13. I'm not shocked, honestly, this is why a lot of people do not like PvP and were against it and things like DPS meters, because people get nasty. I personally, have been far less bothered by the GG spam, it's toxic sure but the fact they're so shackled, it's easy to ignore, but the cheating is pathetic and frustrating. They actually made a fun PvP mode, are trying so hard to stem toxicity and then here come the mouth breathers to ruin it for everyone by cheating. They're just gonna kill PvP again in FF14 and then it'll just be PVE fam all day again if they don't stop.

  14. Toxicity isn’t exclusive to PvP players. It is everywhere with a combination of lack of respect to others and lack of accountability for those being toxic. Then if you make a public complaint on “social” places you are even more downplayed by the army of toxic spreaders.

These surely are smaller, but boy they are loud! What scares me is this is the world they are building for themselves.

  15. What I learned from this video is that Youtube comments are probably the most toxic environment overall.

Also, if someone is harassing you on social media because of PVP in FFXIV, doesn't that fall under the jurisdiction of the social media platform? If someone harasses me on Twitter because I ganked them in game, I'm reporting it to Twitter, not SE.

  16. One thing I love to do in PvP is, try to get a friendly response from the other enemy team. Sitting at their spawn with the dopey pose and see their reaction. Just funny to me, I come from TF2 when it comes to competitive shooters, so yes, I am a silly boy and don't take games very seriously. But I also know how to adjust quickly.

People will always want to have an edge to reach the leaderboards quickly, some will cheat to do that. I will have fun doing it.

  17. PvP always breeds toxicity and it's not something you can avoid. Even if you try to, they'll find ways to do it like by spamming a single voice line repeatedly. However, people who think that PvP brings out the cheaters is kidding themselves. We got that with ACT, a problem that literally mods your client to include indicators and voice warnings for different mechanics.

  18. If I'm going to lose because of how my team mate play, of course I will be frustrating and use a lot of beep and beep word irl but do I have to express it out and put it on my teammates?

No, all I did was just leave after game end without word and cool off somewhere else and that's also what most people on my data center did.

Why? Because it doesn't change anything, that teammate is not going to be better, or maybe that teammate is not as bad as I thought, maybe I'm the one that's not understand what is good play. So, it's a pointless things to spend my time doing it.

  19. a little competitive toxicity is fun… FFXIV community act like they've never heard a bad word in their life… can't even chat just for some fun banter.. might as well play with bots.. fireworks on down opponent.. thats just fun and creative.. stop taking everything so seriously like whiny babies.. I swear FFXIV players have never played a PVP game in their life where its customary to tea bag someone

  21. If we don't stomp it out now, the toxic levels will reach LoL and WoW levels. U had someone in NN complain that they cannot insult their teammates. They felt like it was up to them to determine who can play and who could not. They even said they felt bad for using whm, exploiting it's glitch, because it was too easy. It is sad that people would rather be toxic than tell people tips. NONE of the pvp players that want to bully "bad" players even mentioned that they put in auto-target. So you dont have to tab over to targets giving them the edge. So from what I see toxic pvp players would rather hold all the advantages to start off on an uneven field, then insult other players and want them out of pvp. I still have yet to see any of the people who say things like "insulting people is part of pvp, and if you can't handle it get out of pvp," so anything or say anything to improve other players. No tips, no strats, nothing. Here is what I have to say about people like that, if you get so angry in a game that you feel you NEED to insult people or be toxic simply to fill the void that an "L" puts in your ego, you need something in your life, that your self worth is not tied to a score. If it is compulsive that is very sad. You may say I am a snowflake but in other games people feel that they have too yell at their loved ones, punched a wall, brake their own equipment and destroyed their personal relationships over a game, simply because they lost and I do not need that in my life. Anger can be just as contagious as fear.

  22. Remember to use Toxicon or Toxicon II on your target before using your burst. Sage does pretty good damage in PvP, and each of those buttons will also heal.

Eukrasia -> Toxicon -> Eukrasian Dosis (snapshots the 10%) -> Toxicon I/II-> Icarus -> Pneuma -> weave Toxicon I/II if you have it -> Pneuma

  23. I will use the same quick chat phrase more than once, and that phrase is "fall back and regroup".

I will say it once, then watch as someone runs past me toward the objective where the entire enemy team and none of ours is. I will click the button again lol

  24. As someone who came from Guild Wars 2, I thought the fireworks on a downed opponent was great. It reminded me of the finishers players have to do in GW2 to secure kills.

  25. lol….just had a game that i used 3 x LB as a DRK in a single match and got polymorphed all 3 times just before the damage come out. lost 3 x healthbars for 0 damage.
it was a 10min game….those 3 LBs would've probably be the difference in the outcome of the game.

it's just not fun when the cheats get this obvious and it's not being addressed at all. even a quick comment like they gonna do something about it would be better than ignoring it completely.
    disappointed to say the least.

  26. Daft question but why is it more acceptable to mock during PvP than during a dungeon run? Espicially if the people who are displaying that behaviour are on your side rather than your opponents.

Does the very quick nature of the game mode actually discourage the idea of seeing things through and encouraging your team?

Personally I don't enjoy PVP in any game so I don't play but I'd hope that the community that's been developed elsewhere in the game carries into PVP.

What does mocking your opponent or your fellow players actually add to the game that you wouldn't be able to display better by knuckling down at the game and either fighting for the win or finishing it sooner.

  27. Compared to WoW PvP, I'd rather have the lala or catgirl shoot off fireworks over my dumbass after they oneshot me than being called slurs in the chat by the one guy in warsong that sits stealthed at the flag and does jack shit.

  28. at this point they should remove ranked mode, give us nice seasons of rewards to work for and achievements for different jobs and leave it at that
i dont have a problem with pvp, but ranked modes bring out the worst in people and the only way to not have it is to remove the mode entirely or change it so its a win win scenario

you might think its extreme yes it is but theres enough evidence out there to prove me right

  29. I played a multiple of PVP games…even ff14 before 6.1.

PvP usually brings out toxic behavior, Spamming chat with gg in a sarcastic way is just as immature as not participating.

No one is perfect and that's something people need to understand, players learn and improve by playing, being hostile toward your own team not only paints you as a sore loser, but it lowers team morale.

Cheating does need to be addressed first though as that definitely is impacting everyone more.

  30. Toxicity is a part of life. I hate the constant need for all of us to have to be nice to each other. Especially when you are competing and you can’t really communicate with your teammates. Or you have an extremely selfish teammate that ruins it for everyone else
