Quazii tries Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) for the first time in 2021 (Episode 34). Is it better than World of Warcraft (WoW)?

  1. Loving the sights and sounds of Kugane. Really takes your breath away – Potato-chan and Melon-kun is eager to explore the rest of the city in further detail. And having a sea view is just icing on the cake. BTW apologies for the repeat of clips at one point of the video, I made an editing error there. Potato repent!

  2. Ah so he finally met Zenos, and I gotta say, I HATED what they did with zenos in stormblood. Don't get me wrong, I did like stormblood, but I like many, found it's story for most of the expansion to be lacking, especially when put between heavensward and shadowbringers. Back to Zenos, there was just so much wrong with Zenos that just irked me, and not just because of his strength, but that to feels a little annoying. Here we are, we've killed super powerful primals, took down to high ranking acians, even after they fused, and even Nidhogg himself. The whole fight with nidhogg was framed like we HAD to fight him ourselves because no one else could stand up to him, yea, we got a dragon eye boost, but given that we contended with him when he had at least one eye, it couldn't be that much of a boost.

And now, here's just this guy in the empire, randomly able to just beat us into the dirt, apparently we didn't need to worry too much about Nidhogg, just lure him to this guy and he could probably contend with him. Yea, we find out later WHY he's so powerful, and that would be great, but its very later into the expansion, and it still compounded by the central problem with Zenos and why I think so many people did not like his portrayal in stormblood, his utter apathy with so much of the story itself. A LOT of stormblood is focused on how the campaigns of the empire have effected the rest of the world, and whither or not the people need or even want to rise up, whither its possible in the first place.

And here is Zenos, he's the principle antagonist in the story, and very much a sort of representation of the tyranny and strength of the empire and does not give even the slightest crap about the empires conquests. He's a blood thirsty man baby looking for the best sport, he takes over lands not to spread the glory of garlamauld or because he believes its message, but simple to fight and kill more people. Heck, he intentionally destabilizes and wreaks untold misery on the territories he claims, just so they are FORCED to rise up and fight him, so the question of "is it right to push these people into rebellion?" is pointless, as Zenos intentionally gives no choice. He intentionally empowers people like Yotsuyu, and Fordola, feeding their hatred so they can bleed and kill their own people, the only options he gives them is rise up or die, they're is not "living peacefully" under him, and there isn't even the illusion of it. To make my point a little more clear, lets compare him to what I feel would be a good point of reference, Darth Vader.

For much of the series, he is the representation of the overwhelming power and authority of the empire, no matter how inept his troopers might be, or disastrous they're blunders, he still portrays an image of imperial might and force. Where he differs from Zenos is, Vader actually Believes in the empire, he has his doubts and hatred for the emperor himself, but acts with full conviction in the strength of purpose of the dark side and the empire. Zenos, couldn't care less, the empire could fall all together and he'd just be annoyed at the lack of toys at his disposal. That's the difference, One cares about the story he's in, the other doesn't, and that makes a huge difference. You can have an antagonist not care about SOME aspect of the plot, but not almost all of it, a antagonist needs just as much if not more stakes at play then even the protagonist, he has to care about SOMTHING other then one person in the plot, especially if that person engages with the plot itself.

  3. It is my favorite looking city, though there is another city that is probably my favorite overall. Good layout, beautiful scenery, etc. I also love the soundtrack, and you hear it often enough, that when it really swells up, you feel emotions. So good.

  4. Quazii- I've been following you for a bit, and I have to tell you how much I not only enjoy your narrative but also the editing for your video's. As a rank 4 veteran, watching the story unfold through your eyes makes it fresh and new………and even though I know what's going to happen as you go through the MSQ it's almost like I'm doing it for the first time with you. Keep up the GREAT work your doing, I always look forward to your newest uploads 🖒🖒🖒

  5. "If I had VR goggles, I would live here." I feel that way about the Azim Steppe. Everything about that area just makes my heart sing. Much like Zenith for Quazii, I will hang out in the Steppe anytime I have idle time.

  6. Maybe I’m missing it but I don’t see your debuffs on your UI. It would be “enfeeblements” in the setup. A lot of these mechanics like forced March and retreat will give you a debuff with an arrow. Comes in really handy in other more complex fights.

  7. I was redoing MSQ on an alt: Meffrid is the refugee in Quarrymill who gives you an introduction to Gundobald in Little Ala Mhigo. It's referenced in dialog, but there definitely could have been more opportunity to connect his past connection to you with his role here.

  8. So many people ignored Job quests that people would come in without skills, so starting in Stormblood, you get skills automatically (except last capstone skill at 70 and 80) and you can save up all your Job Quests for a good long storyline at 70!

  9. Rhaubahn ex was pretty funny. Personally I got bored of waiting for an update and decided to spam it while watching anime. I managed to get in before running out of episodes thankfully, but it still took me most of early access to play the expansion because of it. This probably won't happen ever again bc of changes they've made since, but it was a pretty funny moment in this game's history.

  10. Ah, the boss name Lorelei, is actually read a Lo-re-lai, based off a German legend where a maiden named Lorelei died slipped off a rock and died on an island and after that lured fishermen to their deaths with her song. Kinda like the Greek Siren, who is another optional dungeon's boss, but in this case it's from German myth.

  11. Interesting tidbit, if you do the Zenos fight as a healer class, in the following cutscene where Kryle yells at you to "stop gawping and hold her down", she instead yells at you to help heal and your character does indeed help with the healing. It's a nice touch.
