Lmao, it's always annoying when people start their doomer arc. Like, just because I'm taking a break from the game right now (because I've become obsessed with BG3), it doesn't mean the game is dead or dying. When new patches come, I'll come back. That's the magic of FF14. There aren't thousands of systems designed to keep me chained to the game. Funny how people loved touting that as one of the game's best pros over other MMOs, but then conveniently change their narrative when they can't milk the game for all their streamer content or when they themselves can't be bothered to go play something else during downtime without taking potshots at the game about how boring it is now.
No U FuzZzeL!
The devs straight-up tell people to go play other games in between the patches. It's not designed to be something that consumes every day of your life. The chart says it all with it's wave-like data. Expansion drops, people leave once they're done, then come back for the next. Rinse and repeat.
There's also the fact that right now we're in what is effectively a filler arch since the first main story ended and the next expansion will be the start of a new one. That's why the patches have just been an FFIV theme park.
Tbh was for me a paradoxon is.. one of the favorit copy paste to say how "great" FF14 is "FF14 is respecting your time 🙂 " now "OMG THEIR IS NOTHING TO DO!" surprise.. like intended.. yeah sure the missing of something like Bozja is kinda harsh.. but did we all forget the fucking rework PvP in this addon? or many QoL Changes.. i still enjoy FF14 and sure im often finish with my daylies after 1-2h often a hour when i dont want to do more.. and this is fine i play something else.. i play my beloved old school MMO Lotro also to relax.. or play something else, yeah the relic weapons.. well.. tbh doing the relic grind once was okay.. but after the second? fuck this.. i literally finish two relic weapons in shadowbringer and then i was annoyed, and ShB Relics was kinda nice when i look to ARR Relic
As someone who has played since August 2013, I'm really hoping Dawntrail breathes new life into this game. Ever since Shadowbringers, we've been seeing a change in uniqueness that the game used to offer. Perfect example is jobs – jobs used to be very diverse and different (damage types like piercing and blunt), utility the jobs offered, etc. While some of those things needed to be removed, I'm hoping they can create a better unique identity for each job like they used to have. Half the reason I find myself logging in less and less is because everything feels the same, between the content itself feeling less inspired to jobs all having the same 2 minute rotation window.
Another thing is the change in the community. It used to be a cool place where people could help each other improve and be a better player while having a heavy social atmosphere. Now, you can't try to help anyone, and the social scene seems a lot more inclusive/cliquey with a growing emphasis on solo playthroughs. I think players in general should let themselves take a break from the game, stop worrying about it dying, and come back to a hopefully much better expansion. Here's to hoping the devs take this time to reflect on the good and bad from arc 1 and make an 11/10 arc 2.
I tried to do 300 Frontline wins in every GC :/ I got burnout. (470/900)
Was trying to top 100 achievements on Primal DC, but came up a little short before I just had to walk away. PVP in this game is pure cancer and made me want to die.
I agree with everything with vid.
"they listen to players"….yeah if its the japanese players. they haven't been known to listen to NA or EU playerbase at all
People are always going to come back because there's no FOMO in the game. The closest we get is moogle tomes and pvp and those can be obtained casually. It's hard to burn out when the game isn't designed to burn you out by exploiting fomo to get those concurrency numbers
I used to log in every single day religiously even just to AFK but I never felt pressured to stay on top of gearing and such. It’s not burnout—it’s boredom. I’m just hoping all my other friends and FC mates who haven’t logged in for a while actually do come back but it all depends on how engaging the patch and next expansion is.
Ma strummer nailed it
I unlocked bozja a few days ago thinking there would be no one there bc of so many doom videos i've seen recently but no, Bozja was full! Delubrum Reginae is dead tho lol
Also Eureka was popping off today. I've also seen quite a few new players recently and queue times mostly bellow 5 minutes so i think the game is doing just fine.
I'm ready for dawntrail to come out and people complaining about queue times to log in into the game.
Zepla started all this drama. The game isn't dead, the game isn't even dying. You wanna see what a dead MMO looks like go play Tera or Rift. She's just bored of the game and decided to make a clickbait video saying FF14 is dying.
all content creators: FFXIV IS DYING.
Live Letter
the same content creatores: HOLY SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEED THAT MOUNT
Endwalker was fine for you. Endwalker had very little that drew me in and made me actually want to log in and play. Therefore Endwalker was ass for me and I will always say that Endwalker was ass because it was…for me.
The only people that are still subbed to this game are the new players or those with serious skill issues, most of the elites have already stopped playing this game since TOP as there is no reason to do that urm anabelos? raid. Like what are you gonna do with the gear from that savage tier?
Zepla bitchin' about lack of content when she gets carried and spoon fed loot in savage.
I agree fully, no way FFXIV is dying which is a huge blessing. But like you said, we're missing that huge approachable wedge of content for the more casual players. Endwalker is distinctly missing chunks of content for them with good enough incentives, that's why I hear all the time how people aren't sure what to do. Like I look right towards my boyfriend and he just doesn't have the time/ability to dedicate to PFing savage so we raid a few hours of the week he can come. (Limits me but I don't care, game's just fun for me.) But outside of raid he has no idea what to do what to work towards and just… doesn't play. :S Endwalker missed out on content for these people
Bozja was MILES better than Eureka in every way.
I wouldn't say it's dead per se, I would say its dropping off for some people. This is the first time we have a huge gap between each patch and it shows.
I think for some they just want a reason to log in and be excited about. Not having that for almost 2 years kinda bums people out. At least that's for me.
This is why I love xeno he always keeps it real.
im not playing right now, ive done everything i wanted to. i dont see the pont in playing just for the sake of playing, ill be back i love the game. i just want to play others
Sorry, but you're wrong. This isn't the normal decline in players. Just look at the graph, large drop after .1 with a stagnant population that pick up in .5. Except EW, where it has been dropping with every patch. This graph looks exactly like the WoW subscriber count graph from vanilla to Cata. Dawntrail might end up boosting it over current numbers, but it's not going to take take it all the way to EW launch. And it will resume dropping after DT launches. YoshiP decided to chase the Fortnite demographic, that's why the game keeps getting dumbed down. DT will dumb it down even more, which will drive off even more of the game's MMO fanbase. Maybe XIV can wrest the kiddies away from Fortnite, but I doubt it. This game is headed for another 1.0 level disaster, but this one will be a slow burn.
Thank you for clearing this up. I was sort of getting sick of all of the discussions happening on discussion boards like reddit and the general forums for FFXIV. (Though I'll admit the general forums are never really that positive and full of trolls 90% of the time.) Just a lot of doomsayers everywhere, and I just wish they used their energy more constructively.
Yep, exactly right, I’m bored beyond belief not burnt out. All good though when I get bored I have plenty of other games waiting for me. Games I brought and haven’t even played yet. When DT launches I’ll be back getting my FFXIV fix.
I think the lack of a relic grind this expansion is making it more boring but still the game isn’t dying
I know it’s not ‘dying’ but I do think it’s on a downward trend to level out a smaller player base in general. I know most people I played with (including myself) quit because I got very tired of the lack of content and that the bearing system is still complete ass after all these years. The fact they keep gutting and dumbing down all the classes more and more isn’t helping either.
I'm still playing my free trial character lol got hundreds of hours in it.
The only time I feel like I felt burnout was when I raided every day from July 30th when the eden raids released till February the next year when I finally cleared TEA, I took a much needed break after that
game is dope, but cannot stand the community. too many fem boys, everyone wants to be a real life cat, dudes in jock straps dancing at limsa (my home nation). been in 27 free companies since i started playing in arr 2.0. not a single company has majority of NORMAL people. and it wouldn't bother me if discord wasn't required by them for savage mode fights and raids.
People dont understand that, the only reason Shadowbringers had succsess at the end of the expantion was because: 1st COVID, people had more time! 2nd WOW Shadowlands really drove players away! 3rd The Shadowbringers Content was preplaned and in production before covid. We lost a lot with covid including things in Endwalker because games are made in advance, things you will do in 7.2 or 7.3 are already in thier planing phase. 2023 is one of the best gameing years in a decade and instead of pausing FF and playing one of the many great other games or trying to find new things to enjoy people sit in thier little houses and complain that the devs cant make enought content so they can play 8 hours a day, 7 days a week.
I do not understand how he can say "It happens every expansion, people leave and come back on launch." When there is a GRAPH that shows the exact opposite right behind him. The last 3 quarters of EVERY expansion shows growth. So he may think that "Oh people leave the game near the end of the expansion, its normal" but there is numerical proof that this isn't the case. And its on his screen which is mindblowing
Also they confirmed a exploration zone for Dawntrail, idk where this misconception came from.
