  1. I'm just glad that Stormblood is being added to the free trial so I can continue to not pay for the subscription. I do not have a horse in the race as I just watch it all unfold, I guess.

  2. In addition to newer players having plenty of content left to do, content creators have the additional issue that they need to make videos on content they haven't covered before. As you note, many such creators have decided their best bet for clicks is to complain about FF14. Their points may well be valid for them, but for the majority of more casual players who don't need to stream 30+ hours/week, the issue is deciding between a plethora of attractive options.

  3. A lot of these kinds of complaints were there during the Shadowbringers patchcycle as well, just in slightly different form. People complained about Bozja dying a week after it came out, go back a bit further and people hated Eureka when it came out. So they kept asked for different styles of content to come along with Endwalker and CBU3 tried something out with Variant/Criterion Dungeons. Were these perfect on the first attempt, no. Can they iterate on the idea and make them good? Probably. Bozja was an evolution of Eureka and people seem to really have the rose-colored glasses for that now.
I know that it's quite a different situation for content creators, but some of them should probably just let go. Sometimes you realize after thousands of hours with a game that it's not for you anymore. And when this touches your livelihood that is a harsh realization, but they are just getting themselves caught in a negative spiral now and should step back from the game or even content creation itself at that point.

  4. I'm a veteran of the game and I love endwalker. If your incentive to play is solely based on external rewards I think you are going to have a bad time regardless of how fantastic or exclusive the rewards are for whatever content you are playing. Personally, I keep logging in because I enjoy the game and can keep finding things that interest me without needing the devs to wave a carrot in front of my nose.

  5. Started playing just before endwalker. I've already run out of things to do in endgame. I've done everything. Was looking forward to boz type thing this expansion but they aren't doing that turns out. Every patch is more nothing and the poststory is kinda boring compared to 6.0 story and shb. So I'd say if u are new it's great if u aren't it's content drought of a lifetime.

  6. People can play the game however they want, but there is big difference between "There is nothing to do" and "There is nothing I want to do". Take Zepla for example, played since Heavenwards, still haven't touch DoH/L, Chocobo racing, Tribe quests, etc. That is at least 3 months of contents for a degen like her, probably half a year for normal people.

  7. If there are enough people constantly talking about FFXIV is in a bad place, then yes the cause of concern has increased…
And no, if you started in ShB, you will actually hit this wall. I've known a lot of people who started in ShB who plays on and off but gotten to the point where they're running out of things to do. This is how bad the lack of sustainable content has gotten relative to the amount of delays FFXIV has extended.

Is FFXIV in a bad place? If the devs word is to be trusted, Dawntrail should theoretically remove all these problems. The issue is that … well, Dawntrail isn't for another year or so. Patch 6.5 and 6.55 is apparently going to be for almost a year in duration so if you're already feeling the lack of content now and the current amount of content for the past couple of patches reflects patch 6.5 and patch 6.55 for the next couple of months… it's pretty bad. Perfect time for new players to join. Bad time for Veterans who wants to play the game. Here's to hoping the Liveletter addresses these concerns.

  8. Reward structures are a very useful tool for improving enjoyment, and I do definitely think having reward structures attached to criterion dungeons would be an improvement, however MMOs have developed a weird fixation on them. I think when the development team designed criterion dungeons, their thought process was that people feel like dungeons are dull and predictable, and wanted to introduce the idea of varied difficulties and content, but none of the discussion is about whether or not they are enjoyable to play. It’s like that’s not even a factor. Only whether or not someone is going to give them something for doing it a thousand times.

  9. This is something that happens in ALL mmos with people who have been playing for years. You are always waiting for new content. There are always lulls in terms of new shit you can do. Doesnt mean the game is in a bad place whatsoever. This happens to us veterans multiple times per year. The reward system could be tweaked, but by and large ffxiv is still in a better place than basically any mmorpg on the market. I'm so tired of some vets acting like this is something that is new, that this has never happened in the 10 years since arr.

  10. After every expansion there was a little drought, people left and some of them came back when a new patch or expansion dropped. It's a cycle and a lot of FF XIV content creator make a way bigger deal out of this than it actually is. These are people who are completely centered around one game, much like endgame raiders who played FF XIV most of their time. WHat these people forget is that a lot of FF XIV exlusively play FF XIV, they play other games too. Especially after endwalker we have so much new and good video games coming out. Of course people go and play other games at their releases too. It's common sense to expect up and downs. Those people who claim that endwalker has the weakest patch cycle are insane. They all forgot how unplayable Eureka was or how broken Bozja was. They remade Eureka 3 times and Bozja got abandoned pretty fast. Reason for this was that since it was tied to the Relics, people want to have the shiny new weapons as fast as possible. So the optimized everything through and through, guides and videos appeared to show you how to min- max your time. Just like Island Sactuary, people did it and the content was done very fast. Newer players who did this content later didn't had enough players to really do this stuff. Thos people who optimized that are very nostalgic when they talk about Bozja and be mad if the new relics cost only tombstones. But at the same time they are done with the content as soon as they got their shiny new toy.

It's the same thing over and over again, no FF XIV is not dying and not in a crisis. Yes since Shadowbringers and Endwalker got popular new players came and some stayed. Some WoW players who returned to their game when the next expansion was well recieved. It's not unusual and just standard but those people who rely mostly on FF XIV, for them it's bad. But it is their problem and nobody else, the game is doin gjust fine and it will do so for at least 2-3 more years.

  11. It's wild that they don't even have low-effort carrots for content, like a mount for doing the Eden raids on blue mage. No improved rewards for Criterion, like it would wildly imbalance the game to let people get a tome gear upgrade item once a week from it. Any time they bring in some quality-of-life, it is after years of begging from the community (DRK Blood Weapon and Living Dead) and they do as little as humanly possible to the point of it barely even having an effect (savage book gear trade-ins).

I loved the Endwalker story, but frankly the patches have been a gross indication of their priorities and a lot of long-time players who are paying attention are basically ready to leave now that the Zodiark plot is wrapped up when the content team isn't delivering. The "2nd dye channel for glams" news got bigger response than the actual 7.0 reveal.

  12. As a newer player you vets sound like a bunch of crybabies. Go play another game for while and come back when the new expansion drops. The game isn't dying at all based on my server labelled as congested and no new characters can be made on it. Maybe that break Yoshi P said to take is advice you all should listen to on occasions.

  14. the game is in a bad place.
FFXIV has racked in somewhere from 1-2 billion dollars in the last 4 years and it went to fuck all outside of the same stale content cycle they've been doing.
im tired of seeing people defend CUB3 and Squenix. Dawntrail is going to be the WoD of FFXIV

  15. i have more than 20.000 hours in FFXIV. Ppl saying criterion doest have rewards are ridiculous. So what if the mount can be purchased? U wanna enjoy a hard content or u want a thing no one will get? If it is the later, get the hunt mounts, cause they are super rare. All expansions are like this, ppl always say the game is dying or going free to play and we are still here despite all the stupid complains,

  16. Most of those crying for lack of content are streamers. If you go and look at their lodestone you'll find most still have plenty to accomplish in the game but they won't because it's not content that will bring in the views. They are lacking streaming content not actual game content.
