  1. This is how I feel about Destiny 2. I think that any live service game needs to have a plan for this. They need to design all the content they make in two ways, first for people playing through it in realtime, so it takes a while to do, but they also need to be able to crack it open and "overclock" it, so that the same story can be experienced much faster and more streamlined. After the newest content has moved 6-12 months past a certain point, they should put it into the faster mode, and players could blitz through it to catch up. This can involve removing gear/level grind, removing fetch quests, and skipping unnecessary sidequests. If you do want to go back and do those side quests, that can be an optional thing later.

But basically, the goal is that when a new expansion comes out, a new player should be able to buy the game and get caught up to the new expansion in no more than a month of fairly casual gameplay, ideally faster, and never feel like a moment is wasted.

  2. You need to get good? What does that mean and why should it matter?

Also. If anyone is asking you to finish 14, i dont think they literally mean to finish all of the content. I am very certain they mean the story. This honestly sounds like an excuse to not play something when you could just say, its too time consuming or you didnt enjoy what youve already played through.

  3. I'm a long-time GW2 player, and I play mainly for the story. I love it to bits, and eventhough I KNOW it's a lot of content to go through, it had always been quite abstract in my mind, given that I've been following the releases since Heart of Thorns.
I got seriously into playing FFXIV last month. Now I understand. I'm still not through Heavensward and it feels like this expac alone is longer than a single GW2 expac + Living World. I'm having a blast but OH BOY is it LOT. People with jobs, especially jobs that require to play multiple video games, can't do it all folks

  4. Tbf with ffxiv getting good isn’t a thing, only the ultimates and savage which are optional non story really take much skill, the story quests and dungeons are pretty easy, like literally, the ceo has recently come out and publicly said that he believes they’ve made ffxiv too easy

  5. It's ok to not be god at certain things, and there's too many games, books and films that, you cant read. All these people want you to is a reaction on a things, like a death of certain character, or these boss battle with this music. Thats why popular streamers are doing reactions, this is what people want

  6. I feel like of all the "you have to get to current content to experience the real game" MMOs, FFXIV has the biggest barrier to entry. Hundreds of hours of cutscenes and fetch quests. It's shocking that they manage to still get new players. Or maybe they just make millions off story skip microtransactions.

  7. I like how ffxiv fans missed the whole point of his metaphor and kept going "but Josh you don't need to be good to play the story pls Josh play our game so we could feel that tiny bit of fatherly love and acknowledgment that we so badly miss:("

  8. FFXIV is one of my favorite games of all time and in my opinion has not only the best story in an mmo but one of the best in any game ever but I can understand the grind. I actually just last year decided to start a new character and yeah the grind is real, fun for sure but if you don't have the time to put into it I can get not trying to catch up.

  9. It took me a year to basically A level cap in LOTRO, which involved ignoring a lot of supplementary side-story content.

FF14 took me from January to April to get to the start of Shadowbringers (expansion 3), starting from the end of ARR. This was alongside my day job of retail working, which left me hungry to feel like I needed to progress the world/myself/a virtual world, outside of work. It's a dick move to pressurise people to play more of an MMO.

  10. to be fair there isn't really "getting good" at 14. you just.. play through the story, lol. it gives you more than enough experience and gear to just play through the story. it doesn't take any skill, just time.

just say it's more time investment than you're willing to commit.

idk how far you got, but it would be sad if you didn't get to experience Shadowbringers or Endwalker, but I get it.

  11. IMO FFXIV dropped the ball when they added Dawntrail as a totally new story arch, but it still requires you do go through the full story of ARR to Endwalker.
They should have done something with Dawntrail that provided an alternative leveling experience starting from level 1… but I think the devs were too attached to the cast of characters to do this.

  12. As a person who plays FF14 for almost 3 years, to a new person who (actually) wants to play FF14 i would 100% recommend story skip with just casual playthrough watching on youtube at some point.
FF14 needs new starting point at high level, but devs simply refuse to implement it.

  13. Being good at FFXIV takes a bit of time. Here’s the real challenge, finding a group of 7 other individuals that are good at the game that aren’t riddled with toxicity. Idk about other rpg’s but a bum leg gets everyone killed in SAV+ content. I can’t use PF without either getting idiots or assholes.

  14. I really enjoyed FF14 but i couldnt get into the story. Being a decade late to the game and all my friends are at endgame stuff so i felt pressured to catch up. After like 8 hours into the game i ended up just skipping all the cutscenes

  15. Wow, I played Mass Effect 2 WAY too much as a kid. Within 2 seconds of the video starting I had already identified that, not only was the clip of ME2, but Shepard is currently on the mission to recruit Thane 🀣

  16. Ffxiv story is a real issue to new players. The community who enjoy it acts like its some delicious dish you HAVE to eat before you die, but no one takes in consideration the length of this dish and that in a broader specter it isnt an amazing dish that will appease everyone, and it's OK to not like it or feel enticed to continue.
In fact the story is such a issue to getting people to play that I have all my RAF rewards from recruiting people who never finish the story, and then try again a few months later and quit again.
This comming from someone with 11k+ hrs in this fame.
