  1. Yeah all the bad reviews pointing towards the sign up process are all valid. It's absolutely awful. Trying to get my non FF14 friends to get into the game is such a headache. I just have to shrug and say "idk figure it out ig"

  2. that long review is full of bs.
And the game actually does a very good job at standardize mechanics.
A stack marker is always the same way, a tower is always the same way, a knockback is always the same, way.
    fuck that guy

  3. In regards to the last review, as a savage raider, I LOVE when the game doesn't tell me how exactly to handle a mechanic. I get to learn how to handle it myself and with the people I'm playing with and when I finally get it it feels SO satisfying. Figuring out the best strat can also be a fantastic bonding experience.
And the games is based around a trial and error process. In normal duties, most mechanics aren't going to one-shot you. They'll hurt and give you a vuln stack but that's really it. If you keep failing, then the game will punish you, and it's time for you to get good

  4. i think a lot of end game ppl are a lill bored rn, we all just want dawntrail to release preferably last sunday xD
the newest update was really good tho! really made me get back into it a little, and it felt good
like, i could recommend all of the newest stuff.
the last manderville weapons look amazing, they probably spent their entire animation budget on the last tribal alliance quest, bc that was great, and the last hildie quest was just– even more insane??? somehow. AND THE LEAD UP QUEST TO THE NEW EXPANSION. YES. already loving Wuk Lamat as a character
hope you get the spark back, and if not, see you back come dawntrail. lets make it 4000 hours xD

  5. The only toxicity I have met in this game is a bit of toxic positivity. Criticizing the game is a cardinal sin apparently but other than that none.

I do hope dawntrail's dungeons are a better tanking experience however, the previews looked promising.

  6. I definitely do understand the frustration of purchasing through steam. But honestly, it's not worth a negative review. I was one of those people who had issues signing up, even going through support and them saying the account doesn't exist after I didn't get the email…only to get the email a day later AFTER I used a different email and made a new account. It was frustrating, but I pushed through it and now I recommend this game to everyone. I do give them a heads up though lol. If anything it made the game even better for me, because the frustration was absolutely worth it.

  7. Some people think not all mentors are good, but in the other head thinks 'returner' should be doing great in anything. As a seasonal player, I feel overwhelmed whenever going back to this game with sunflower icon.

  8. Seems like bro had a streak of bad luck with mentors and concluded this was a FFXIV problem and not a mentorship problem. I'd say fair enough, the mentor experience is USUALLY bad (not always, but frequently enough to be a problem), but to go from there to "this entire game is bad" is… odd.
As for battle mechanics, not knowing how something works, screwing up, maybe dying, maybe hanging on by a thread, that's just plain fun. I don't even have anything higher than EX content open yet and it still makes my day to get a bunch of sprouts on roulette, wiping a ton and only beating the content 10 seconds from the timer's end. Sure makes me wonder what are the gameplay expectations of someone with this person's mindset.

  9. The only really truly "bad" things about the game for me are the things related to the spaghetti code. Outdated UI (especially the party frames), delays, how characters are loaded into the world (retainers ._.), housing zones etc etc. They've been doing a great job trying to get around it, but some things are really hard to adjust.

edit: OMG the menus… they're so bad. When someone leaves your PF group, the role is still locked ._….. when you start a bossfight, all menus close for some reason incl. the loot window… I could go on forever XD

  10. I'm sure most of the negative experiences in this game are social related. Social issues are social issues regardless of platform. ARR sucking is the only valid point about the game left and even that has been much reworked.

  11. I wonder on which server this person played to find so many toxic people.
I have played the game for some 1500 hours on the European Light/Raiden server and in all this time I have met exactly one single toxic person. Everyone else was either outright nice, neutral, or not didn't talk at all.

Also the thing about not knowing whether you need to avoid or get into an AoE is just flat out wrong, until you get to extreme/savage or higher difficults stuff or the level 90 alliance raid.
The kind of AoE that needs the party members to stack has a different and very distinct marker than the others you need to avoid. It even has in-ward pointing arrows and a special sound effect that's practically screaming "Hey, stand in here!"

  12. I think the last guy's criticisms are valid, too. Saying "this guy just doesn't like how the game functions" shouldn't dismiss his opinions.

If you skip every cutscene in the story, you will find that FFXIV does two things. One, they almost never have you interacting with the game itself until dungeons or trials. NPCs are purposely spread quite far apart, and they often have you going back and forth between the same NPCs even when it's not necessary to progress the story, to keep the player playing for longer artificially.

If you don't skip cutscenes, it's harder to notice that occurring, but it is absolutely a lazy quest design on Square Enix's part. At least other MMOs try to give the player objectives outside of the story and try to engage the player in other aspects of the game. Are those objectives sometimes trash? Absolutely. That still doesn't excuse poor quest design on SE's part, though.

  13. i really feel like the “the game is just pressing a handful of buttons and doing mechanics” person just. doesn’t like mmos. which is fine! not every game is gonna be for everyone (i don’t particularly care for platformers, as an example). but i think they went in expecting a life changing game and just got a bad run of people. which again, totally fair to associate a game negatively because of an interaction within it! i wonder, though, if maybe they tried, say, fishing, they’d find a community they liked within it. i dunno, it just feels like the reviewer prefers different styles of gameplay and felt left out bc their friends love the game and they don’t. genuinely hope they find a game they adore.

  14. There's not much someone can complain about when it comes to ffxiv, but what they would have to be about just how outdated the engine is when compared to other, sometimes even older, MMOs such as GW2 and World of Warcraft. Or how the development team have talked at lengths about how they're unable to implement the simplest of systems, such as a catalog for glamour, solely because the engine could not handle it.

There's also the problem with how we can't even change basic character features such as eye colour or skin tone without first spending ten real life dollars when other MMOs have far more in-depth customization for free.

  15. I try to defend this game from criticism because I feel people give it less room for mistakes just because it's very popular nowadays, but I cannot defend it from the issues during the setup process.
Because I already played the game and had experience with setting up accounts, I had to set up 3 accounts for friends so they could play. It's UNREAL how doing exactly the same process the 3 of them threw three different errors at me, and at the same time, all 3 errors were DIFFERENT to the ones I had to face when creating MY account.
Like, once you're in, you're golden, but until then get ready for the account creation system to test your will to play the game.

  16. 4:59 to be fair, there are aoes you're suppose to stand in like Kefka question mark aoes, tower aoes, gather marker aoes etc. Not every aoe is suppose to be avoidable, but when you do, it can lead to a wipe.
