I Got Destroyed. Azure Dragoon is BACK? ★ FFXIV 1st Playthrough EP36

Quazii tries Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) for the first time in 2021 (Episode 36). Is it better than World of Warcraft (WoW)?

  1. The Azim Steppe is amazing. The zone's writer Natsuko Ishikawa (who later handles Shadowbringers) fleshed this place out so much, all fifty of the Xaela tribes have backstory even tho you only see a handful in game. Every little sidequest is worth doing because it's loaded with great and characterful stories. And yeah, this is based rougly on Mongolia historic/geographicly, in relation to how Yangxa is the Chinese mainland's analogue.

  2. If you noticed,
Kugane is inspired from Japanese culture
    Yanxia from Chinese culture
and Azim Steppe from Mongolian culture.

That being said, in the world map, the animals you noticed (there's also a white tiger and a dragon) are referencing Chinese mythology about the four symbols, one for each cardinal direction. It will also be relevant later on optional post stormblood content.

  3. "Cherish the stars and the light they bring you in the dark. For you are a traveler, are you not?"

Heh. That's relevant for Shadowbringers. Makes sense, given that Ishikawa both wrote this part of the Stormblood MSQ and the expansion that follows.

  4. Quazii you cannot possibly be too “big brained” with your ideas and theories. The more you latch on to and mull over, the more mind blown you will be in future content!

  5. I understand the initial annoyance with Zenos being able to one up the WoL, but if you think about it what are we as characters? We're essentially just super strong adventurers and with a slight edge. It stands to reason that there could be other people out there that could go toe-to-toe with us. I don't find a relatable at all and that's also why I like him as a villain. He simply a villain plain and simple. His motivations do make sense, if evil. I don't need all villains to be sympathetic or relatable.

  6. When you reach 5.0 you may feel like you understand what Temulun means, but I'm sure that if we go through Endwalker, these words will take on new meanings.

  7. The more I watch you going through SB story & zones the more I realize just how much I loved SB! It's amazing that such a good expansion is called FFXIV worst:)
