ABOUT THIS GAME

Final Fantasy 14 or FFXIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event which destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time traveling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

  1. Ahh…back when I did this originally, I was sad when Haurchefant died, but not to the point of tears. I got out the dungeon and talked to the guard. I literally said out loud "Oh no…OH NO, I have to tell his Dad…." and when Edmont collapses after trying to keep a stiff upper lip and cries "My son…" Man…that broke me.

  2. Wait. 2:07 Since when is that Estinien’s line? I distinctly remember Haurchefaunt saying “we were not too late, my friend!” to me when I played this. Is that part of the revamp or is it just cus Jordy was running DRG?

  3. What makes this scene even more heartbreaking, Stephen Critchlow, the voice actor for Count Edmont de Fortempts passed away in 2021. One of his best friends and fellow voice actors, Robert Harper, decided to play FFXIV solely because he wanted to hear his friends voice again. After nearly 200 hours of gameplay he finally heard Stephen's voice as Edmont. Robert cried when he finally heard his friends voice in game. And every time I watch one of these reactions, when we get to the part where Edmont mourns over the loss of Haurchefaunt, I can only imagine how many tears Robert shed that day as well. It really makes this whole moment more devastating.

  4. 1. Haurchefant's sacrifice is easily the most important moment for the WoL. "A smile better suits a hero" is a quote that you could argue helps keep them sane going forward

    2. Haurchefant's actual death is sad, but Edmont breaking down, sobbing, hits so much harder.
The man couldn't acknowledge him in life, so all he has is his grief for him in death.

  5. It’s a shame that Thoridan wrings out his knights for every drop of aether they had because I would’ve rather stuck my greatsword through them, then have them just die by getting their life forces drained

  6. They actually added the part with Alphi saying it cant be healed later due to people who went healer complaining that they have sooooo many healing spells to save him. They wanted to make sure you knew that you could not save him.

  7. Youtube knew I was still grieving over him and recommended me your video. I made the mistake of watching it because I finished Heavensward this week and I cried when he died(it's still so fresh in my brain). I wasn't that attached to him or anything but the self sacrifice to protect my character just hurts me. That stuff makes me cry, especially when I get the feeling of what is about to happen but are unable to do anything about it. My FC has been enjoying my sprout journey and my emotional damage lol
