I Did Not Expect This – The Mothercrystal… | FFXIV Endwalker Playthrough Highlights Part 16

By far the hardest trial in the game so far, momma crystal whooped us for a while. Venat is such an incredible character…

I’m working on the final few videos now, so enjoy!

  1. I wish I could play this game for the first time again. I don't know anything about the FF games and if they are as good as this…🤯

Started playing this game like 2 months ago lol. I heard about it for the first time 2021 and bought a copy off G2A during December becuase SE had stopped the sales. The congestions my lord. Easily best game of all time and favorite for me.

  2. I unsubbed and uinstalled WoW a month before Shadowlands pre-patch dropped. Fortunately Cyberpunk 2077 was there waiting for me. As buggy and as messy as that game was, it deprogrammed me from having the dreaded WoW brain. I tried FFXIV half-way through BfA for a week and hated it because of that WoW brain, thinking that I had to hit level cap to enjoy what the game offered, completely unaware of the horizontal progress and content the game offered.

I'm so glad I started playing FFXIV last year. It has been a hell of a journey, one that's left an impression on me in the way that only the older MMOs like Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot and Everquest did.

  3. It's a Shame you didn't use the Scions. They all behave as if they exist in universe with in universe rules, but also with Player habits. Since it's the Echo that shows you AoEs prior to them being launched, None of the Scions have that so at first everyone but y'sthola don't dodge attacks. She only dodges because she can see the aether coming ahead of time. Urianger sees her dodge and follows her. Then Thancred or Alphinauld will learn to dodge (Urianger will rescue one of them). They even through in a few jokes, like Estinien shouting at Alisae "Alphinauld, Get back!" when she's hit by an AoE, and she responds with a "What!?" The only two who have trouble dodging anything are Alisae and Estinien, the RDM and the DRG which are BOTH the classes you expect to floor tank. If either gets the stack marker, you can expect them to get obliterated because they jump off to attack leaving the party who is grouped up to protect them.

Also, this is one of the big moments that makes rewatching the Endwalker story, either playing it the second time or watching a streamer do it, makes earlier scenes make more sense. The image of her being covered in black blood/sludge is her recalling your tales, and how they inspired her to keep walking forward just like you did. Or how Elidibus never outright says "Don't do anything to change the past," he's actually telling you "You can't change the past even if you tried." He might've already tried back in Shadowbringers and realized he couldn't undo any deaths or the sundering. There's more scenes like that all the way to the end, a certain line in this scene much more potent.
(Editted to add Funny Estinien and Alisae moment)

  4. The themes of Endwalker hit at a moment where I really needed them. A reminder that hopelessness can be as destructive as the problems causing that despair.

It doesn't hurt that my philosophy is already close to that of the writing. I've long held to the idea that "Perfect is the enemy of the good". We can make things better, even if we cannot make them perfect. To reject improvement because the solution is not perfect is just a continuation of the status quo. We strive ever forward; for those we have lost, for those we can yet save.
