ABOUT THIS GAME

Final Fantasy 14 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it was released worldwide for Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, as a replacement for the failed 2010 version of the game, with support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS releasing later. Final Fantasy XIV takes place in the fictional land of Eorzea, five years after the events of the original 2010 release. At the conclusion of the original game, the primal dragon Bahamut escapes from its lunar prison to initiate the Seventh Umbral Calamity, an apocalyptic event which destroys much of Eorzea. Through the gods’ blessing, the player character escapes the devastation by time traveling five years into the future. As Eorzea recovers and rebuilds, the player must deal with the impending threat of invasion by the Garlean Empire from the north.

The original Final Fantasy XIV, released in September 2010, was a commercial and critical failure. In response, then-Square Enix President Yoichi Wada announced that a new team, led by Yoshida, would take over and attempt to fix the issues with it. This team was responsible for generating content for the original version as well as developing a brand new game which would address all of the previous release’s criticisms. This new game, initially dubbed “Version 2.0”, features a new game engine, improved server infrastructure, and revamped gameplay, interface, and story. The original version shut down in November 2012 and was followed by an alpha test for Version 2.0.

The game released to largely positive reception; critics praised the game for its solid mechanics and progression, and they commended Yoshida for turning the project around. After a poor 2013 fiscal year, Square Enix executives attributed the company’s 2014 return to profitability in part to the game’s strong sales and subscriber base, reaching a total of over 24 million registered players by October 2021, also becoming the most profitable Final Fantasy game to date. The game has had a number of post-release updates produced for it, including four major expansion packs: Heavensward (2015), Stormblood (2017), Shadowbringers (2019), and Endwalker (2021).

  1. The proper etiquette in FFXIV is to wait for peoples that are watching cutscenes before engaging. When the cutscene isn't long like that it's not going to be really a problem, but it's still something that most FFXIV players will frown upon. And please do not pass on gear as you're levelling up.
That very low level gear has almost 0 value for high level players that are joining you through roulette; but for someone still lat early level it's an important source of income. None of them were veteran players, but still, only the lancer in your party may have been level 30, everyone else had clearly at least one class between 50 and 90. So even if you aren't interested, at least roll Greed, the button is made for that.

To quickly see if you've got any gear higher level than what you've currently equipped , you can click on the "recommended gear" button that is above your weapon slot in your character sheet. Speaking of character sheet, to access quickly the armoury chest containing your equipment on a specific slot from there, you can just left click on the equipment slot that you want to see what you have for.

  2. That somnus smuggling quest, basically it's like heroin or something; a nasty illicit drug that will Fuck you up, I think it's also kinda magical. Pretty nasty drug smuggling going on here and there in Eorzea. There's a lot of shady stuff going on if you explore the world.

  3. If you're going to play different jobs, highly recommend setting up some user macros for a quick change between jobs. Has saved me many a headache.

The macro I normally use is below, where X is whatever number your gearset is:

    /macroicon X gearset

    /gs change X

    /hudlayout 1

Huge shout out to the community for teaching that to me in my Sprout Days. There are plenty of videos around on user macros to make the game even better!

  4. I just started a few weeks ago and the small amount of voice acting in the beginning was annoying but then I realized how big this game was and eventually every scene gets voice acting

  5. People like this are the reason why cutscenes in two mandatory story dungeons are unskippable. I'm no saint, I also once rushed while the Sprout was watching the cutscene and I was immediately reprimanded for that, then I apologized because my rush was caused by me getting yelled at at home a couple minutes earlier. Still, everyone rushing like this without waiting is generaly frowned upon in the community and I'm sorry you had experienced it in the very first dungeon.

  6. Yeah, that's a jerk move to rush ahead while a teammate(s) is in a cutscene. I always make sure to check and then wait until someone finishes. And I know that this game is an MMORPG so the multiplayer aspect appeals to most people, but it's really worth doing these dungeons solo with duty support. No one rushes ahead, and you have a chance to look around and really explore these dungeons. People who've been playing awhile have done these dungeons dozens or hundreds of times so just want to get through them as quickly as possible. But if you're really engaged by story content, or you just want to see what else the dungeon has to offer, looking around can lead to some interesting diversions. For example, here in Sastasha, in the big room where you're looking for the key to the Waverider Gate, there are several siderooms you can poke around in. In one of the rooms, you'll find a dozen or so pirates fighting over some ale.

  7. Hi from Hyperion(NA)! Great video! The minion dealer was definitely living their best RP life 😂. If you’re looking for a job/class with a different type of story arch I really enjoyed lancer/ dragoon and thaumaturge/black mage. As far as the length of the videos, make them what ever works for you. You have hours and hours of questing, dungeons, trials, and raids to live through. The vids you’ve created so far have been funny and entertaining and I will definitely be here for the rest of the journey! The FF14 community loves to share and watch others enjoy and experience this world that has brought us so much, well so much emotion and so much great story!! Welcome to FF14!!

  8. you've got fans on Crystal! I watch your videos with my best friend- if I didn't already have a poor connection on my own data center, I would come join you for your dungeon runs lol

  9. I am so triggered by people not waiting for a sprout to watch the cutscene… like come on people, you know there is someone new with you! And you let the tank go first! I don't even tank and I am getting mad at it 😆

  10. pugilist/monk gets SUPER fun as you level it. make sure you pay attention to your moves with positionals, you can do extra damage by hitting the enemy from the side or back depending.

  11. As someone who's been playing this game since the first Expac (Heavensward) came out – I adore watching you get through this content. Make the videos however you enjoy making them! Brief glimspes and witty commentary or more longplays and snark, what's important is that you have fun with it! it's your personality and how you experience the game that make it entertaining, imo.

Also – If you're ever worried about your first run through a dungeon and don't have a chance to coordinate with your community, I'm echoing others who have mentioned it: The Duty Support system is super useful! It's also really fun in that you get to watch the "support" NPCs level with you and experience the events of the game alongside you. And sometimes their commentary is hilarious! Most MSQ-mandatory dungeons are available with Duty support, and they're an excellent way to learn mechanics because the Duty Support/Trust AI will often show you what to do.

Also, in case it hasn't already been said: For grinding levels, once you've unlocked the Duty Select menu, you can choose to run a dungeon multiple times (with both Duty Support OR with other players!) to try and get specific gear drops, and to get big experience bumps at a time.

Keep going at your own pace and I look forward to the next vid you put out!!

  12. oh my god, I loved that drug deal interaction! xD I like to give minions (and some travel gil) to sprouts when I have extras, but it's hard to tell who is a sprout with free trial and not, since a free trial person wouldn't be able to trade or reply to a tell I tend to just randomly trade people and see if it works ^^;

  13. Others have probably already mentioned but I highly recommend using the duty support system (ai) for your first time through dungeons. It’s available for all msq dungeons until the end of Heavensward and means you can take things at your own pace and watch all cutscenes without worrying that strangers have ran ahead
