  1. WoW was the reason I was terrified to type in chat. I was also the one who got super anxious whenever I got a gg in ffiv bc I thought they were being sarcastic and that I was actually terrible lol! It took completing Heavansward before I started relaxing and having fun in duty roulettes

  3. The PTSD from games like WoW and LoL is real. Maybe it's not felt by everyone equally but it's real. Obviously every single person isn't a saint. There are bad apples in every community but from what I've experienced it seems like the percentage in FFXIV it's lower than other MMOs. GG TY!

  4. It is subtle but there's a key difference between WoW and FFXIV's design philosophy : WoW is built from the ground up around the concept of conflict (Alliance vs Horde) whereas FFXIV is built around the concept of cooperation (PvP is actually a sports-like / military drill kind of thing) and redemption (giving second chances).

So from the get go, the moment you log into World of Warcraft, in theory half the world population of players wants you dead simply for being either Alliance or Horde. Add to that mobs and elites and the idea that wandering around the world, in PvP servers, you can be jumped without warning in most places by a member of the other faction, no matter their level and yours.

In FFXIV, every moment you're given to take on a challenge, it is either implied you go at it by yourself or you have people supporting you. When you wander the world, most areas have members of the GCs patrolling to make it 'safe' for common travel for anyone and settle disputes. And when it comes to PvP, gear becomes entirely cosmetic while abilities and stats are standardized.

So yeah, that mindset seems alien for people coming from WoW to FFXIV because taking up a class in WoW is a necessity just to survive while in FFXIV, taking a class/job is an option. Area gating aside, it should be possible for someone to live comfortably just from crafting in FFXIV as they are, themselves, entire classes instead of just something tacked on top of what your character as a warrior knows to do.

All those little things in FFXIV slowly conditions you to think in a certain way and in the end, when you get to the really hard, endgame stuff, it reflects in people being more tolerant to failure and willing to try again much more openly.

  5. 26:50 I had the opposite experience. But to be fair, I'm mainly playing Classic. But my FF14 groups rarely had any group interaction beyond greeting each other (if at all) unless I specifically asked something about the dungeon. People just wanted to get through and didn't say anything until the end. As opposed to WoW, where I'm talking with the group all the time. I think the problem with FF14 is for one that the UI is a little more awkward, and typing in group chat is not as easy to set up (in my experience) compared to just typing /p. But I think the main problem is that people are instantly teleported to the dungeon, are complete unknowns to each other when they meet IN the dungeon, and most of the time it's a downranked higher level player who has seen the dungeon a billion times and simply wants to rush through for the reward, when I as a fresh player want to get to know the dungeon and experience it. One time I watchted the cutscene of the boss, and when I was through the boss was dead and everyone had left. I think FF14 really sucks in this regard. What sucks too is that the "exit" portal spawns directly behind the final boss, and you have barely any time to say thanks and farewell before you are left alone. It doesn't feel like an "authentic" human environment in FF14, at least when you are using the dungeon finder tool.

  6. Zepla is a global treasure that must be supported. Also, FF14 has SO MUCH sarcastic, toxic positive/entitled vibes its worse in ways to games where people are just openly hostile. I hate passifve aggressiveness.

  7. I played WoW for years. I encountered more assholes than nice people. Assholes on PVP servers who would camp my lowbie characters. Assholes on PVE servers would bully me into leaving dungeons if my DPS wasn't high enough, even if it was my first time doing the dungeon and I was still trying to get geared. Assholes in battlegrounds would bully me into leaving because I wasn't geared enough, even when I was just trying to get into PVP.

It honestly left me traumatized to the point that I didn't want to even do dungeons in FFXIV. Took everything I had to do it, and I was surprised as hell at how nice everyone was.

  8. 1 Minute in and I feel the passive aggressive, fake positivity & toxic behaviour literally OOZING out of the screen, no different on EU DCs.
To make things worse, the ToS ever since SB allowed to let this behaviour flourish.
So many sprouts burned, its like a forest fire, because no one wants to risk their accounts social credit, wich takes years to recover after kneeling to the CCP style ToS.
No, I am not joking, read the ToS and you feel like a CCP supporter wrote the section for interactions between players, they even tell you HOW you SHOULD talk to someone else.
Back in HW people were more elitist due to the game being more difficult and also having less players but no one was shy to help due to a section of the fucking ToS of all things in an MMO.
Playing this game for over 8 years and solo except Savage content during prog (with some exceptions but pf ever since E8S has been a pathetic joke), so I can talk about this with massive amounts of experience and confidence.

  9. I've definitely seen some dickheads and "you don't pay my sub" types in FF14… these people exist everywhere… but I agree with Asmon that the hostility is kinda the default in a lot of WoW. There are also some people in FF14 who use the noob-friendly atmosphere as a shield to not be a basic team player in content because they know no one can tell them to fuck off. Not a lot of them, but I've definitely seen it.

  10. I wish I watched Asmond in the time I played WOTLK. I had to be a tiny bit toxic, but failed to enjoy it as much as I could. I could have had so much fun.
The situation: I was raid leading a pug into Naxxramas. About everyone had the kind of gear you would expect for that raid. Except for one guy I invited. A warrior wearing full greens on this alt. I got asked if he should be with us. If it even was fair. Did I even know what I was doing? I knew they guy. He was playing in a guild trying for world firsts. I only responded: "he knows mechanics" . The guy in greens proceeded to top dps the first few bosses. I couldn't resist telling the raid they were being out dpsed by a guy in greens. Everyone was using dps meters at this time, so I was rubbing it in. Everyone in the raid stepped up. Eventually a few managed to outdps him. Never had to lead such an easy pug. It would have been even better if I had learned to enjoy being a tad toxic. Thanks Asmond! At least I am enjoying it now.

  11. The best way to tell someone they need to bring food and meld their gear is apparently not to use your words, so just don't invite them again, ever. Maybe then they'll get the message.

  12. FF14 has a great community, but the game is just lame. I honestly tried. GCD makes the game feel clunky. The quest line is straight up PAINFULLY long. Everything just feels off.

  13. the problem is we keep telling people the rules in life dont matter be/do what you believe you should. games have rules. a big part of playing a game is learning what the rules are and what you can do within those boundaries to overcome the challenges presented. thos two ideals clash. you cant tell someone how to play the game, they should decide the mechanics of the game. that's also why so many people complain if they cant do any content they want without having to figure out how to do it, and if you say they cant its hostile toxicity on their playstyle which is part of their identity. people want to get game a and play it like game b but wont play game b cause it sucks, which makes no sense.
