Rest is a level 1 skill, and at the surface, doesn’t look like it’s all that useful – it makes you stop fishing and to return to a cast ready stance.

How on earth is that useful?

Easy! It’s lets you return to the stance at any point until you attempt a hook. If you know the tug type of the fish you want to catch, you don’t need to wait for a fish to get away before casting now. You can just use Rest!

Whenever you use Rest all of your buffs are maintained (except for Lure stacks and Chum), and you immediately are put back into a cast-ready state. This saves you time between casting, allowing for more casts per fishing window, session, or whatever metric you use. Using Rest saves 2-3s per cast, which over time can really add up.

Fish like Furcacauda, Ealad Skaan, Fingers, and other short window fish will benefit the most from rest usage, but ANY fish will benefit from the use of this skill. Learn the fishing holes, gain knowledge of the fish you want and be rewarded by fishing more efficiently than ever.

Good luck and happy fishing!

  1. This'll be the start of a series of guides on the new (and old) Fisher Skills.

I'm running a thumbnail test on this video, so if you saw a whacky or weird thumbnail (or it changes randomly) – that's why! Thank you for understanding (and clicking the video to read it I guess?)
