I recommend taking a look at the official FFXIV's beginner guide videos! They have a playlist and it should help you get oriented on what to expect 1 to 30. I think watching parts 0, 1 2 & 3 would be appropriate at your level! Part 4 can wait until you've progressed MSQ to level 15+ and get airship access to visit other cities.

If you want, you could even record while watching them and put it as a "Sprout Reacts" video. Up to you of course but I've seen other content creators do reactions to the series and they're fun. =)
The solo duties insure that you tackle some fights at the appropriate lvl and in isolation so you can't be interrupted by the activities of other players. They also often include voice NPC interactions like you had with those chars
So many people will just run past everything, skip all the story, and not care about the environment. Wish i found someone else like you in the game it would make my day
You can also keep most of the Disciple of Hand and Land stuff off the recordings, there's alot you can do without always needing to record. I think most people here are just interested in your story progression and impressions. Just have fun with the game as much as you can.
I am sorry to say, but all jobs require you to go hunt these things down. If it makes you feel any better, they are not animals that we know and love.
There's a good reason lore-wise why you do these things, not just to get better at your archery.
FFXIVCollect is a good website to not only find out how to get minions, but also to keep track of what you have.
You'll be able to solo MSQ dungeons up through the first 3 in Heavensward. In January they're adding a few more but it will be a few more patches until you can solo dungeon through the entire MSQ. Shadowbringers and Endwalker already have that feature but SE is revamping the old expansions to support that. Trials and raids you'll have to do with other players, but only trials and dungeons are required for the MSQ…well, except for the alliance raid at the end of ARR but it's so low stress and easy that it'll probably just be fun for you…I also have anxiety so I know there's only so much I can reassure you, you'll still have to take the first step. I get the trepidation. I had my fair share of unpleasant and/or toxic experiences in WoW during my 15 years of playing it but I rarely get that in ffxiv. It exists but most people are pretty nice. Hopefully by the time you have to do things with people you'll be comfortable with the mechanics since you will be able to do the first few things by yourself in a low stress environment and get use to it.
There's not really a one stop website like wowhead unfortunately. It's more like several sites that specialize on one or two things. I'll share them but the ffxiv community is very protective of spoilers and story so click at your own risk. These are just the ones I use on a daily basis…you probably won't need a lot of these right away and there's probably some other ones that other people use.

4 tips I could give:
1. Try out Legacy controls. If you feel its a bit awkward that your character backpedals and not run towards the camera.
IF you do this however you might have to change buttons A and D in your keybinds to Strafe L & Strafe Right.
2. in character Configurations > Item Settings; Untick "Store all newly obtained items in the armoury chest"
This makes it so all items you receive goes to your item pouch and you can pick and choose what you want to throw out, sell or otherwise. The armory chest has very limited item slots in general.
3. In Character configuration > Log windows Settings > General you can tick off;
"Display error messages when action fails"
"Display recast timer error messages"
This way you wont get the red error message when you press buttons when they are not yet ready. It is pretty normal to spam buttons when in combat so it helps to not get the annoying error sound as well.
4. If battle effects start to become a bit hectic, like when other NPC's cast a big spell, you can turn these down a bit in;
Character configuration > Character; "Battle Effect settings". You might want to keep your own, but show limited for Party and show none for "others". (But at this point this is not too much of an issue)
You do have to be on the same server to send mail… but you can't do so if you're on the free trial. It's one of the free trial restrictions, unfortunately. But you can send and receive messages and items to those who have purchased the game.
Level 10, but you also have to complete your level 10 Archer quest to unlock the ability to go to other guilds.
Once you have attuned to all the shards in the cities, you can use them to teleport to the gates and the airship landing as well 😄
Yes… Shooting targets around Gridania is a part of the level 5 class quest.
When you are within 5 levels of a FATE or for creatures with a red triangle, you will automatically get attacked if you are in range. Once you reach their level until you are about 10 levels over their level, red ones will attack you. Ones with the bluish green symbol or more than 10 levels below your level for the red ones will only attack you if you attack them. the ones from FATEs if you are over 5 levels over the FATE, you'd have to sync to attack, so you'd be safe around them.
The creatures with the mark are hunt log targets… you don't have to kill them, but you do get extra XP for completing the log.
For Main Story Quests (MSQ) and class quests, you do have to do the solo duties. But they're not that bad most of the time. And there are plenty of other opportunities to do things with other players.
You can always change the order of the skills if you don't like how they are arranged. And you can add bars too. Hot bars 1, 2, and 3 are class dependent by default and 4 through 10 don't change regardless of what class you are (by default).
Solo duties have a set number of oppentents that you have to kill. The timer is just the maximum amount of time you have to complete the solo duty.
Some skills are "locked" behind some state. With archer, the straight shot skill is one such skill. It unlocks when you get the Straight Shot Ready state, When you do the Heavy Shot, there's a chance of getting that state, and you'll also get that state when you use Barrage (a skill you'll learn later). The venomous bite skill is one of two archer skills that do Damage Over Time. The tool tips do provide a lot of info on these situations so it's helpful to read them.
I was just noticing your subscribers, but they must not have been found… something about 404… 😀
Looking forward to seeing your journey!
Don't be too intimidated by player parties in XIV, the vast majority of players are very understanding towards new players and will not lash out if you do something wrong. With that said, you will have the option to do dungeons with a party of NPCs instead, most of the main questline in XIV is now playable completely solo with a few exceptions along the way, but those are usually in bigger parties where the individual responsibility is negligable, especially for a DPS role so no need to stress either. But I feel like the game does a pretty good job at easing people into the flow of the game, I always felt this is a perfect game for first time MMO players too.
I hope you keep having fun exploring the world of Eorzea~
Side quests can give you upgrades you don't get from the msq in the arr portion of the game.
I'm here for the journey 😉❤️ yes it'll improve your reading and English skill overtime you'll be surprised with your self without realizing, I'm betting until the 2nd expansion 👍
What server you on
Once you get past the first bit and get onto heavensward prepare yourself for an emotional rollercoaster no joke this game Will wreck you
I really like the longer video! It's very calming to watch you play and I love how immersed you are in the world. There's just so much to explore in this game, but unfortunately, you do have to fight things. I've been going back and doing all of the small side quests and a lot of them are really good!
I was gonna send you a letter containing something you would enjoy, but we need to be friends first so I couldn't do it 🙁 Also I couldn't search for you in Alpha, because you are on free trial. So that sucks.
I think you are doing well. 🙂 Duties are part of the main story which is how you progress through the game, but you will do fine. I know as far as I've been playing to get mail from someone you need to be friends in game, then they will show up on your mail list.
When the mushroom came after you, you entered a timed event called a FATE, when you see the circle on the map you can work with other players to complete the FATE and get gil, xp, and other rewards.
There are animals with 3 weird shaped C's over their head. Those are the animals that are in your 'Hunt Log' which is 'H' on the keyboard. By completing the hunt log you will get quite a bit of xp.
I do have a character on EU, which was a lvl 1 pugilist lol so I just recreated her on Alpha. I'm not quite sure what time you are in-game so I could pop in and send you a friend request. Also, if you get to lvl 15 before tomorrow 31st, you can do the Christmas event. Tomorrow it will end and another event will begin called Heavensturn, which is celebrating the New Year. Anyway, I thought I would mention the Christmas event if you hit lvl 15 before it's over. 🙂
I have a soft place for animals as well. We currently have two dogs, Cooper is nearly 7 (Jan 24th) and he is a staffordshire terrier mix and Riley who we've had for 6 years is a lab/pit mix. We aren't exactly sure how old he is since he was adopted from the shelter. We used to have 4 dogs (large dogs) a mastiff (110 and past my hip in height) and a husky, which she was on the smaller side. I would bring home every stray I found, but my husband would not be very happy with me. My sister & her husband have a small dairy farm with about 7 cows (I don't remember exactly how many) and some horses. It's always a good time when people drive by their home and stop to tell them the cows are out in the field, which they are, but there is a fence there so they aren't going to get out. lol
I've stopped writing this to go do other things since last night, I'm going to stop and send this off so I don't have to stop again. 🙂
hold thru.., ARR is "C" at best (but can drop to "D" occasionally).., everything gets better later (even the voice acting), upto A-SS level in the last 2 expansions
Sadly you will be killing a LOT of animals. It's just the way the developers intended, in their point of view all the animals have the "kill or be killed" mentality. But anyway, that Hatchling minion you want, once you unlock the Airships you can go to a place called The Gold Saucer which is a gambling place, you can get it there as a reward. As for the side quests, if you see ANY blue quest, those usually unlock special things like Mounts, Minions, Emotes, Glams (transmog), hairstyles, dungeons, raids, etc. They also unlock side content, like Hildabrand quests (comedy quest line). But most importantly is your Class quests, if you do them to level 10 it will allow you to collect other classes like Conjurer, Botanist, Lancer, etc then eventually at level 30 it will allow you to upgrade your class to a job (Archer becomes Bard). Lastly, the Striking Dummies, if you side click it you can reset it and stop the battling. I hope this helps.
This game is both a solo and a multi-player experience. So far about 70% of the game can be soloed. Most dungeons through the main story you are able to do them with npcs OR other players. However ones unlocked by side quests are strictly multi-player. There is also boss fights and raids which are strictly multi-player. The only expansion as of this moment that isn't solo is Stormblood but the developers plan on updating it in the future. I hope whichever way you decide to play you have fun
when you see a large area in orange during a quest it means what you need to do is somewhere in that area, not necessarily the center of it.
Take your time and enjoy it 😉 Don't hesitate to ask if you have any question or doubt 😉
