As a DPS main and wannabe Tank, i personally just level healer for the mount.
But i remember the time Scholars had amazing DoTs and the outcry when those were removed, same with Astrologians and thier different card effects to the point arrows were FEARED by melee dps and loved by casters
I miss those times, healers had more fun and more fun means better parties
i feel alone in this but i love the way healer works now. im a sage/scholar main and its really fun progging in party finder because shit can always go wrong. hell evem in normal content shit can go wrong.
i remember everyone died once except the tank and me in a raid and as soon as i revived someone they immediately died and i had to shield and heal myself through a tank buster. but eventually i was able to help recover the group.
you might say those crazy situations are far and few in between but when it comes to randoms ive had so many experiences where im saving people.
but of course another side is the toxic experiences ive had. 1 time this dancer kept dying and i told him not to use a skill when he gets up and he gets all angry with me saying i shouldve healed faster.
ive also had an experience where i rescued someone who kept not dodging mechanics and they get mad saying they were planning to dash out of it calling me a retard.
i feel like ive been through fro and back as a healer main and even though i like my barrier healers now, im also a person that really started in shadowbringers so i dont know how healing was back then.
I've main healed since 2.0. I do enjoy it, always have. Yeah it's boring but us good ones who give a shit are constantly compensating for other bad healers or tanks that don't use cooldowns or go around corners when our sprint is on cooldown……😑😑😑😑😑😑. It's so frustrating being a healer, I don't know why I like the punishment.
26:17 if it is about new players, than why nothing changes at LVL 90?
Only when nothing goes wrong:3
Originally Whm turned sch playing since phase 2 beta… Healing has been simplified heavily since back in the day. It isn't ever boring for me, but if you are good at healing it does have me standing there sometimes or pre prepping for mitigiation that is already in place. If you are ahead and the party is basically taking no damage you just have 3/4 dps buttons/spells for sch… Broil broil broil bRoIaL BrOiAl BROIL BROIL BROIL…
Healing isn't boring (imo), but I absolutely felt un-needed as a healer when tanks could just cheese everything. Healing is a very delicate balance and it is HARD when tanks and DPS don't mit, and the more we have to push out heals the less we can DPS. I bring ethers for prog because I want to enable my team to live long enough to see mechs and learn them, and once we're smooth I can swap to DPS pots.
I will say, as much as it forces me to focus more on when I'm healing and where I'm DPSing, the mix of mechanics in this tier are perfect for forcing everyone to do their role and PARTICIPATE in the team's success. It's absolutely brilliant, and fun to boot! I might be crying in pain but I'm enjoying every moment haha.
Side note; I don't even wanna watch the referenced video or this one… I am that tired of all the vitriol around healing that's been happening lately. But I also come from the perspective of a tested and at least decent healer. There are ABSOLUTELY shit healers out there. I hate PUGing a shield healer because it's actually 50/50 on if I get someone who knows how to heal.
Please never shut up about Astrologen!! I loved it so much and I also really miss how the cards worked and I fricking loved Nocturnal AST Q.Q I want it all back
Sometimes I feel that one thing holding MMO development back is the adherence to the holy trinity. Here's an out of the box idea. Eliminate the Healing role completely. Make all current healing jobs DPS with a more interesting rotation and some raid buffs. Then give all jobs some ability to tactically manage their own HP. Will add more complexity and tactical skill to playing all the jobs without relegating any one group to having to hit one button for happy brain chemicals. The raid buffs can be anything from crit buffs, to healing buffs to keep the sense of helping the group. In essence this would make the healer group similar to Dancer, a job that is both fun to play and desired for buffs.
Well. poop. I just started a Scholar. I like the Job because it gives me some wiggle room but I've noticed that when I pug dailies, I always get one tank who just wants to tank the entire instance. Sometimes that works out really great if the tank uses their cooldowns effectively, and it's not as intense for me. But other times, when the tank thinks that they can pull the entire dungeon but can't manage their cooldowns, I really struggle a lot. So far I haven't yet had a wipe while I'm healing but I'm not doing high-end content, and this has me a little worried.
I play healer on occasion mostly WHT with there willies and SCH, I agree with the they're not that engaging. Is a shame as i'd heal more if they were. I find PVP healing more fun than PVE and i hate PVP xD
Why not implement something like a next level of dungeons like you have hard and go higher to extreme or do something like mythic stuff from WOW (I never played WOW though :))
There are a few things I'd have to say. I feel it's dumb for people to tell new players not to 'start with Astrologian' because, simply said, they cannot start with that job because it's not available to them until lvl 50. Just tell them to pick white mage or scholar and try the other one a few times too, see which they like better. They can take them all on the same character anyway.
Now, your idea for making jobs for different kinds of people with difficuilties to master has a single very big flaw: Gamers will optimize the fun out of everything.
How are you going to balance them. Is the * healer job going to be super-easy, barely an inconvenience but will the output be middling to meh and is the **-job going to be hard but The Best?
Or are they both going to give the same output despite the massive difference in playing difficuilty?
In the first case you will see people getting kicked from parties if they show up as a * job in endgame and there will be absolutely NO PartyFinder looking for anything but ***. Have fun if the *** job just isn't for you.
If in the latter case, why would anyone take the risk of getting a ** job player who isn't good enough if they can just get a snorefest * in and at least have a ringer for the healing.
Eventually you will only see one of the two jobs being played depending on what is 'most efficient'.
Stormblood's AST was my first ever "main" job and I miss how jobs played back then (TP included), even if my experience during that time was only a few months before Shadowbringers came out and all the changes with it.
I would at least like Cleric Stance back because I never got to experience using it in Stormblood raiding.
Granted my SB raid experience was dying to Ahk Morn because people kept telling me to pop invuln when Akh Morn was almost done casting.
White Mages, use your wands, your staves even, your willies perhaps
Maybe healing would be more interesting if bosses actually did near fatal damage, forcing the tanks to sacrifice some crit-direct hit for determination instead(obviously scaling the boss HP down a bit). That way, the healing done by the healers and self-healing mitigation of the tanks matters more. On top of adding new damage spells for the healers which tie to their respective gauges. I don't know how that would work out for SCH, who uses little baby fairies and one larger but equally baby fairy, but they can make it work.
If you want to have fun as healer play with a BLM trust me stuff WILL go wrong HEHEHE
I don't necessarily want all of SB AST back, but it would be nice to have a buff card for all job types. Right now it's basically just melee or ranged damage. I'd like something for tanks/healers too; a damage reduction for tanks, healing potency for healers, that kind of thing.
I've lost count of the number of times I've been in a duty with only ranged or melee dps so some cards end up having to be "wasted" on the tank or me. It'd be nice to know I have something for everyone regardless of the party comp.
this is a vicious cycle because in striving for job balance people complain about jobs losing their complexity or identity that seperates them from another job. the more they try to balance it the more this happens and vice versa. make the jobs more complex or different and now people will complain because the class they want to play might not be the best fit for higher content. i sympathize for players that are really good at the game and feel that the job in this case is healing is boring but not everyone who plays is at that level of play. for me i enjoy playing the different jobs but im a casual player with good, not great skills that primarily plays dps because i feel that carriers less pressure in dungeons. thats partly why i love the trust system not because i dont like playing with other people but with tanking or healing i get worried i cant keep the pace the rest of the group would want or not be able to keep up. just my 2 cents on the subject.
While obviously going to be in minority, but I actually liked healing being primarily GCD healing with oGCD as a "oh shit" or a planned heal. The shift towards 99% oGCD and spamming 1 dps is just boring, I think the shift away from GCD healing and focus around Green DPS is what caused the never ending "healing is boring" aspect.
I'm so tired of people asking for old astrologian buffs back when all anyone ever did was fish for balance and get pissed when other cards came up
